Report: 'The Writer' is final Alan Wake DLC
32
Alan Wake's "The Writer" DLC may be the last we see of Mr. Wake in downloadable form, according to Evil Avatar. Remedy head Matias Myllyrinne apparently told the site that The Writer would "conclude things" (Evil Av's words) and, like the last DLC episode, would feature "intense action" (Myllyrinne's words). Remedy has yet to confirm the report as of publishing.
Even if the Writer is to be the last DLC for Alan Wake, Remedy has expressed interest in an episodic, digitally distributed release of the full game at some point. Additionally, a recent interview with Remedy resulted in a fuzzy answer to the question of additional Alan Wake DLC beyond The Writer. With any luck, Remedy will paint a clearer explanation soon.

Was a good game but certainly not a game of the year. I'm really annoyed, I expected a lot more DLC from this game.. and Heavy Rain to be honest. I suppose my expectations were too high. I guess Gearbox is the only company that really knows how to produce DLC.

... this better not be the last of this series. It's too awesome to be over.

This game needs more sales.
Episodic distribution is the best method to achieve that goal

So...the first one not packaged in with the game is the final one? I like the game a lot but the only thing this spells is F-L-O-P.

@SteamPunkJin Really? Hate on the person who likes the game but sees it as a commercial flop? Sorry to tell it like it is.

As long as this actually finishes the story, I'm fine with this being the end for Alan Wake's story, for now. Let's just hope this game sells well enough to warrent an Alan Wake 2.

I can live with a conclusion in the sense that it finishes up Alan Wake DLC.........but I'll be deeply disappointed if it's a conclusion to Alan Wake as a whole, and if there's no plan to make a sequel.
*sigh*.........and I wonder how many copies Call of Duty: Black Ops is going to sell.....

I thought that the story was really good, but unfortunately I did find myself getting a little bit bored at times with the combat, as nothing changed all the way through the game. 'Shine>Shoot'.
But I would definitely get this DLC, the story is really good. I hope it's a strange as The Signal, which I also though was better than most of the main game because I like the weird stuff, and The Signal was pretty strange.

This makes me sad. An interesting fun game and it flops. It's the first game in awhile were I went back through and got every achievement. It just shows people that own 360s aren't interested in these types of games which equals more GOW COD and Haloitis. Great.

@brer Most new IPs seem to do pretty bad (with some exceptions) but all you can do is hope that the publisher sees the promise that the franchise has.
Dead Space is one example, sales wise both the original and the Wii spin-off didn't do all that well but EA seem to be all-in for Dead Space 2.

It's really unfortunate that this was released the same day as Red Dead Redemption. It really didn't have the chance to blossom under a shadow like that and make more sales. Now it's more like a fine wine that only a handfull have had the pleasure of experiencing. Maybe thats a good thing.

Shame on all you people who never bought this game. It'll be a long time til we hear from the series again I'm sure. Too bad too. Hey Remedy, could you not have pushed this game up a week or two to keep it away from Red Dead Redemption?

Damn. This game is fantastic at telling a story. But in playing back thru on nightmare, the opening monologue struck me harder this time around. I'm not convinced we are going to see a definitive end to the story.
Regardless of whether we ever see a sequel or not, I'm glad I picked up the game right off the bat new, and I would gladly do so again.

bleh I was totally disappointed with this game. It was very repetitious like GOW. I dont know why people praise it so much, it was just the same thing over and over again for the whole game. The game would have been so much better if they let players play during the daytime and do other stuff to take a break from all the forest business.

That's an interesting idea they floated out there though. Why not release the whole game as downloadable DLC chapters? You could make the first chapter really cheap like $3 or something, and make the other chapters $5-6 each. That's $28-$33 total you'd be selling the game for, it goes for $40 new at retail and you wouldn't have to pay the retailers or shipping etc.

I was hoping Alan Wake would be the first console game to really get episodic content. Remedy could have been doing this for a long time, but I guess the market isn't quite there yet.

I really thought The Signal was pretty awful. I absolutely love this game, probably game of the year for me, but the last DLC was lame. I did not like the way I walked into the DLC and came upon wave after wave of respawning enemies, seemed like such a stark departure from from what I grew accustomed to in the first 6 episodes. I'm still gonna gobble this up, just sayin...

Possibly the most atmospheric game I've played, yet the action was a bit samey. As someone said above it could've benefited from some day time non action settings, say where you wander around the town and customise weapons/accessories/strap some fairy lights to yourself...
Hope it gets a sequel because it along with Heavy Rain have been gaming highlights for me in 2010.

Hey guys (and gals?), I know I suck, but I didn't buy this game when it was released. However, fear not, I will buy the GOTY edition whenever it is sure to be released. Hopefully this is a game that will benefit from a rerelease and encourage the developers to continue making creative content like this game seems to be. Keep in mind, I bought Steel Battalion all those years ago (2002) and kept hope that I would see more of the series some day. Eight years later and VIOLA!... Maybe in 2018 there will be an announcement of a sequel to this seemingly great game and a new release will occur around 2023... :(

bring a complete edition and i'll buy it as disc...
keep it the DLC way and i will stay away from it.
(i do not support episodic DLC).
And what about a PC version?
It was "xbox exclusive" long enough.

"Will there be any Alan Wake sequels?
Yes. Alan Wake is planned to be part of a series with each game being part of a "season" of a TV-series style template."-Remedy's FAQ
With this being said I don't think The writer will be the end of Alan Wake...Please!!
