Billy Mitchell must be pissed. The certified "Video Game Player of the [20th] Century" has lost the Donkey Kong world record -- again -- to longtime rival Steve Wiebe. Wiebe nudged Billy's July 31 record of 1,062,800 points with a masterful 1,064,500-point effort, achieved on August 20 and confirmed today by score authority Twin Galaxies. The two rivals memorably starred in the 2007 documentary The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters.
Hank Chien, who ever so briefly enjoyed the limelight, falls to third on the all-time leaderboard.

There is a reason sandwiches don't talk or comment on blogs. Can we keep it like that?

hahaha
The movie makes him out to be the biggest prick, but he claims that it's all false editing of the movie that portrays him in the worst light.
either way though, it's hard to watch this documentary after the 1st screening...fell asleep subsequently on a repeat viewing a few months ago.

People are still trying to best his scores on those 1980s games. It's pretty bad ass he keeps coming back to defend his title.

If Billy Mitchell ever showed some small semblance of being a human, people might root for him once in a while. He's just so arrogant and snide that you can't feel sorry for him. You treat people how you want to be treated. The documentary was completely one-sided and biased, but Billy had a chance to show some redeeming qualities and he blew it. Good job, Steve.

Good to hear, but I'm a little annoyed at the constant hate Mitchell gets. Almost nobody here would even know who is if it weren't for a documentary that portrayed him as potential Bond villain. Sure, he might be a bit of a douche, but whatever.

In August I ran into Billy Mitchell at the airport in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Interestingly, the airport is the William Mitchell Memorial Airport.

Also, just to say, the movie makes Billy out to look a lot worse than he is. By all accounts, he's not nearly as much of a prick in real life as the movie makes him to be... but he was willing to play that character.
