@(Unverified) im right there with you.. i really wanted to get the new POP game but having not played the 2nd and 3rd ps2 versions.. i had to hold it off.. plus its surprisingly hard to find it used in game stores.. i used to see a lot of them back a few years ago, when i was ps2 gaming still..

The more of these collections that come out the more it looks like Sony nixed backwards compatibility just to get people to purchase these things.

Yeah, on one hand, it's awesome I'm getting to play the old favorites in a higher resolution, but it seems like they're expoiting my nostalgia wihtout having to put in the effort of making a new game. It's a win-win situation, but the way Sony is 'winning' makes me feel a bit dirty.

HD > up-scaled PS2 visuals.

I see where you're coming from but I'm not particularly bothered by it. For one, the games are an improvement over backwards compatibility since it's remaster to HD and trophy support is added. Also, the games are reasonably priced. $40 for 3 great games (2 for ICO) is a steal IMO. Hell, if GOW:Collection was any indication they'll probably go for even cheaper on release day.

Actually it was to shave $100 or so off of production costs. They didn't even consider these HD remakes until almost 2 years after b/c was removed. And for those that wanted to play PS2 games, there were 140 million PS2's floating around. Another win-win situation.

Any indication of a 360 release? I would assume since Ubisoft made Splinter Cell Conviction a 360 exclusive they would put the HD remake on the 360 as well. But then again, how often are things in the game industry logical. I might finally snag me a PS3 if these were both exclusives.

I'm guessing this is the first one, pandora tomorrow, and chaos theory, not conviction.

Yeah, no double agent either. That and Conviction are on ps3 so I can get those achievements and these I can get trophies on.
I'm interested in all of these collections so far especially the ico/colossus one since GS sells ico for 40 by itself.

As someone who never owned a PS2, I say let the good games keep rolling. I have no problem with them re-releasing old titles instead of worrying about backwards compatibility.

The God of War Collection looked damn good to me, and it was nice to have the back story of Kratos before going into God of War 3.

I'll probably get downvoted for this, but don't even bother getting a PS2 right now. I found it entirely too difficult to go back and play the original Xbox and the PS2 now that my eyes are adjusted to the awesome graphics of this gen. Sure there's a crapload of good games for the system, but I don't really think it's worth it to go back and play it.

I know, I know "Graphics shouldn't matter!" But they totally do.

@Liquidfingers As someone who is a PC gamer at heart, and a 1st time console gamer, well, I had an original NES in the 80's, but I'm more a PC gamer......graphics do matter. Don't let anyone fool you. Yes, game play does come 1st, but graphics are pretty damn important too.

I guess it just goes to show how people's tastes are different. I think I have actually had the patience to finish 4 or 5 games this gen. But I replay many of my PS2 (And earlier) titles regularly. I honestly think games are getting more tedious, repetitive, uninventive, and the industry as a whole lacks passion. I'm not saying this with a pretentious nostalgic view. I'm saying it because I truly believe this.

Besides, I can see your point on N64 and PS1 games. But it's not like PS2 and Xbox graphics are that bad. Anyways, yeah, I can't downvote you enough on that.

@TraceurRyuk Prepping for LBP2

Fair enough. I'll admit that I did recently geek out and replay Halo 1 and 2 in time for Reach's arrival, and I don't really have a problem replaying top-down RPGs of old like the Fallout or Diablo series, but as far as console games go it's usually just easier to accept that I could be playing something equally as entertaining with graphics that are much easier on the eyes. The only time I will usually play a backwards compatible game is if I am engaged in the universe, which was the case for Halo. So the way I see it, these HD collections are great. I just wish they would start announcing them for the 360 already.

Totally in favor of a new PoP than an new Splinter Cell. I feel that PoP is more timeless. It would be frustrating playing Splinter Cell 1 after Chaos Theory perfected that formula and Conviction remixed it.

I hope they use the original, uncompressed texture, video, and audio assets. Seeing these play in 1080p (with MSAA) @ 30fps will be awesome, but only if the assets are re-authored for HD. MP3 audio, stretched SD video, and 64x64 compressed textures won't cut it on HDTVs. losslessly-compressed audio, re-encodes of the video using AVC, and (at least) the textures from the Xbox/PC versions are the bare minimum here. Anything less is pure laziness.

If they get the original voice actor to re-record the Prince's dialogue in Warrior Within, that would be a HUGE bonus. It would also be cool if they include some HD interviews/commentaries from the designers/producers now that it's been 10 years since the production on Sands of Time began.

Haha. It's funny how these greedy b*stards trying to stop the selling of 2nd hand items on video games store, etc. Yet they want to resell this on their own with just renaming the title like adding HD on the end. lol. Anyway, hopefully these releases are bug-free an in true HD not some poor port of sorts. haha.

While we are on the subject of remakes, I would happily pay for a version of Rez with 1080p, DD/DTS, 3D and Move support. It would make a great PSN download title.

Perhaps the Move controller could double up as a replacement for the legendary Trance Vibrator, thus opening up a whole new avenue of potential trophies....
