Professor Layton would give this game a swift kick to it's "Ombra balls".

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? It is derivative, but I'm willing to forgive that if the gameplay is solid. Nearly every FPS on the market these days does the same thing, but no one seems to make a fuss then.

Puzzle Agent is directly in the same line as Professor Layton games. It was short, but I had fun with it. It works pretty hard at making fun of the genre while it's at it.

Still and all, I'll at least try Zac and Miri Make a Video Game... I mean, Zac and Ombra, to see if it's fun. It's possible those 3 minigames were just easy ones at the beginning and it gets better. Or not.

Unless the minigames mentioned in this preview are the same than the ones in the trailer, then I don't think it gets any better than Mario 64 DS-style minigames.

The story looks really interesting from what I could observe of it, but the gameplay looks so unoriginal. If I want to play a game with a good story ad some real adventure to the gameplay. Like maybe a something more along the gameplay of Braid.

@LittleMofreaky Why doesn't Joystiq have an edit button?

If that trailer's anything to go by, this is Professor Layton for little girls.

And maddog0, that does seem like a Phoenix Wright reference. Which, in this context, sounds more like a ripoff than a nod.

Well, I do enjoy the Layton games for their music, art, and story much more than I enjoy the puzzles...too bad this game doesn't look as uniquely charming.

The difference between this and something like Puzzle Agent is that the latter at least had a good style to it. I gotta be honest, those character designs are pretty awful.

@ouenwoof

that`s true... those characters look like they've just taken some of the secondary NPC characters on Professor Layton's game, and put them there...
And just look at those background characters! They must have the same artist for them... >/

Yeah, that looks pretty shameless. I mean, seriously, they even have a Ferris wheel chasing people? These guys did their homework.

Must be the work of Zac's archrival, the completely original Mr. Pablo!

Maybe I'm wrong here, but isn't this a game that has a bunch of minigames, not a game that has a bunch of puzzles?

Wouldn't that make it more of a WarioWare type clone rather than a Professor Layton clone?

@Powerlord

No.
Minigames =/=* Microgames.

*as in "absolutely different"
