@PR0F3TA The only games that Dantes attitude has stayed the same was in DMC3 and DMC4. Only because his character was copy and pasted pretty much. Not much thought was thrown his way.

Dante is a shallow character, but (in 3 and 4 mainly) a good one. He is not supposed to be mature or intellectual or deep in any way at all. He is supposed to be badass and he does a damn fine job of it.

Because they modeled him after the guy directing the game. Apparently he thinks he's so "cool" that people would prefer him over Dante.

What an ego this guy must have.

I'm pretty sure it's Tameem Antoniades. I just did a google search, so I may be wrong. I've heard people call him the director before, so I'm pretty sure that's who it is.

So long as Dante's hair doesn't change to white at the end a la Rogue in the X-Men movie, I can accept his new "punk" look.

No I can't. It's like making Sepiroth have blonde curly locks...you just don't fck with a classic.

Yeah man, I saw the director in an interview and wished I could reach through the screen and punch him in the face. He has the exact haircut (and anemic physique) of DMC Dante. Why would you take a popular character and make him look like yourself?

What a douche...

Keep in mind that this is the approved redesign (requested by Capcom, mind). There were a bunch of others that were tossed out, one being a shirtless dude in suspenders who "looked like he just stumbled out from a Clash concert".

Still looks like a douche, but Capcom is the key player responsible here

Capcom is definitely to blame for taking this risk. We'll see if it pans out, but I'm super skeptical. Ninja Theory is an incredibly unproven developer. The few hours I put in to Heavenly Sword don't dull the skepticism.

What I'm truly sick of is people referring to this new Dante as looking "punk," or "punk rock." He's about as "punk rock" as taking your little sister to a Good Charlotte concert.

Blasphemy though I know it may be, Casino Royale is my favourite Bond film. I could never get into the rest of the series for whatever reason. But unlike Bond, I LIKE the previous Devil May Cry games. DMC 1 is probably the closest I'll get to a good 3D Castlevania, and DMC 3 SE is one of the finest 3D action games ever made.

They didn't need to reboot it, they just needed to stop slacking off!

That's funny, as a Bond fan, I hated Casino Royale and didn't even bother with the second one. As someone who LIKED Bond, he didn't need a reboot. He just needed better writers.

imo, Casino Royal was a good movie, just not a good Bond movie. i mean, the only gadget in the entire movie was a freakin' defibrillator.

They did need better writers, but honestly, a reboot was their best option whether you love or hate the actual outcome. People didn't care about that Bond anymore after three mediocre to downright awful films. It would be different if it was only one bad film after GoldenEye, but it was three in a row ... they needed to do something drastic. They don't need to do anything drastic here. DMC4 wasn't the greatest, especially compared to 3, but it was still good enough that I'd have faith in them making DMC5 with lessons learned.

Casino Royale is also my favorite Bond. Sure it lacked gadgets, but it's always cool to see a realized character before he was polished. Craig did an excellent job.

Puh-lease. The gadgets were the worst part of the Brosnan Bonds. Cornier shit than in the Moore Bonds.

Well let's say we disagree 100%, Fleming's bond was based on womanizing, gadgets, and debonaire. Without it Craig just wasn't Bond. I swear I don't know why everything needs a gritty reboot nowadays.. oh wait, because no one can think of an IP anymore.

@InkSix Not sure why you are getting down voted but I'm agreeing with you. I'm a HUGE fan of this series and yeah was pissed at first but now I'm taking a wait and see approach. If this is a prequel that's great because that gives them time to flush out more backstory besides how he got the Devil Trigger in 3. Maybe even bring Dante's Mothers death more to the forefront of the story and show his early relationship with Vergil. If capcom trusts Ninja Theory this much, and they express genuine interest in the franchise and character, then this fan is on board.

And yeah, he doesn't look emo, he looks more like he crawled out of CBGBs after a Rarmone's show.

Problem is, they explained all of that in the Devil May Cry novel. It takes place before the events of the first game and really helps flesh out Dante's character. I recommend it.

I really like the look, too. Honestly, I think it's more masculine than old Dante, who looked like he was one step away from being in a man on man s&m flick and had Bieber hair. But this is what we're familiar with, and of course there's backlash against new Dante. The new design is not hipster. There is no poorly tended facial hair, ridiculous American Apparel jeans, ironic tee, or stupid hat. This is not a guy who listens to Grizzly Bear.

Emo, maybe. It's more like junkie who is half-assing a goth punk look. And there is nothing wrong with that.

Yes. The early 20 something addict is manlier than the muscle boy in leather chaps complete with the platinum penis cut. Go to a gay leather bar and take a score of how many are rocking the punk heroin chic look and how many look like the original Dante.

This is about DMC fanboys upset that what they know and love is being changed to what they aren't familiar with.

@cylet I like how in order to gain new fans they're alienating all the old ones. Dante's not a vampire, they're not going to win over the twighlight fanbase with this game. If there's a lycantrophic character that shows up in this story DMC is so dead.

No amount of good gameplay will fix the black hair. At best, his hair will "somehow" turn white at the end of the game.

Also, they're trying to bring all the wrong kind of fans into the pre-existing fanbase. Just cause chicks like gay vampires doesnt mean they'll like emo demons.

I don't get this comparison. The James Bond movies have been going for 60 years so of course you can't use the same actor and "the new Bond" kind of becomes part of the ritual. Video games aren't the same, though. The biggest sellers are iconic characters with a unique, consistent design.

LOL in their damn dreams, now way in hell will this be as great a reboot as Casino Royale was.

Also Craig Bond was very similar to Connery Bond. Uh new Dante is more or less Alex Jones of Ninja Theory lol

At this point I think they're just trolling us. Seriously, watch the video interview with the wanker. He modeled Dante after himself. And what's worse is that he's a middle aged man, looks like he needs to grow up to be honest. You're not a teenager anymore mate.

Yeah these are the guys who will be handling DMC gameplay. Embarrassing. I don't mind the lame character design more than the fact that Ninja Theory is making this game. They couldn't handle greatness combat if the makers of Ninja Gaiden and Bayonetta both helped them 24/7 even.
