There's quite a difference between a 99c game and a $60 one. (I am assuming you are referring to Dead Rising 2.)

At 99 cents I actually expect it to do better than 2 million. Especially with a customer base of 50 million....

*Sigh* I'm proud of the developer, but it's casting the industry in such a crappy direction: so many dev's are trying to obsess over "quick, cheap, but addicting" flash-styled games in vain of PopCap games and FarmVille/Mafia Wars because let's face the facts: they are making shit tons of money.

Meanwhile, we have developers trying to push what I consider 'real' games - and ending up in turmoil and possible foreclosure. Makes me feel the pain of Untold Entertainment

There's room for game devs of all types. Personally I'm liking these pocket-sized games for when I'm waiting in some clothing store with my girlfriend. Or waiting for an oil change.

@Archerboy yeah phobic is right-as much as I like my rayman, COD and C&C on my iphone I can't play those games on a 3 minute wait for something or while standing.
there are games for every situation.

Fruit Ninja isn't some half baked hacked together game-it's actually a well thought concept that uses the iphone touch screen quite beautifully.

While I think the game itself is sub-par, I can see why it did so well. iPhone "gaming" is all about pick up and play, a quick fix. Games like Fruit Ninja, Canabalt, Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, etc do extremely well because of this.

Agreed. I only play games on my iPhone when I'm waiting at the car dealership, at the airport, pooping, etc. I'm looking to start a new game of Oblivion on my phone when I only game for a couple of minutes at a time. It's also a lot easier to drop 99 cents on a game than it is to go out and spend 60 bucks. The games are right there on your phone and I would say that a lot of people just impulse buy them.

No iphone gaming isnt about pickup and play, pick up style games have always been the bread and butter of handhleds. Tetris isn't an rpg with multiple endings and it was the first great portable success so we don't need to frame this to make iphone look more casual than it is.

If your handheld thing doesn't provide a healthy selection of pickup style stuff along side your rpgs and action games you will lose position to the device that does (glares at his psp).

Um...how does listing a healthy selection of pickup and play games disprove my theory that pickup and play games are critical to a handhelds success?

I bet that if that list ended at 50 or even 40 you would see a strong coming of hardcore games towards the bottom because most people buying iphone games aren't gamers and those who are aren't such a big crowd.

It really doesn't. For the untrained eye, you could say that was a list of DS games, and it would be plausible.

@Chibi Chaingun Oops, missed your post.

I don't think it's been out long enough for any signficant sales at this point. There were a lot of clones already in the market, though, so that might hurt, I don't know.

Vegetable Samurai is free and has a funnier name. It's addictive, especially when you want a 2 minute time waster in the john.

@Maulok Vegetable Samurai is a knock off. it's only successful because it's the free alternative.
the original is way better and polished game.

I bought it on iOS, but regret it. It gets boring after a few minutes. I thought something up there with Angry Birds would be good, but I guess not.

I scoffed at the game at first, but then I thought "its a dallah, whattahel"

and I kind a like it. It has style, although no depth. Sort of like having sex with a model.

Good for Halfbrick. I've definitely enjoyed their games a lot, especially Monster Dash. That ought to sell well for them. If you don't have that yet, buy it!
