LittleBigPlanet 2 delayed until Jan. 2011
98
Sony-owned studio Media Molecule has announced that LittleBigPlanet 2 will miss its original November 2010 release date and arrive sometime during January 2011. Writing on the official website, the development team expressed disappointment, but deemed the extra time necessary to deliver "the experience that our great fans and community deserve."
"We've all been working like powered-up space ninjas and we're almost there, but because we love what we've made, and we love our little sack-friends, and most of all we love all our fans out there, we couldn't let you all get together until we knew we were giving you the best experience imaginable."
Considering the complexity seen in some of the game types and levels in the LBP2 beta so far, fans can clearly imagine some impressive experiences already. We'll see you next year, Sackboy. [Update: We'll see you on January 18, to be precise.]

I understand what your saying but the truth is there is only so much money to go around during the holidays and all the games are competing. Imagine how well a LBP2 Move Bundle would have done around Christmas.

It's real sad to be pushed but if u see the competition it's facing in November with call of duty ac2 and gran turismo.

@Harokine how is that even competition? thats like saying Mario has competition with any other game type.....its in a league of its own.....it has nothing to do with Competition as Sony REALLY wanted this out for the Holidays....you forget that this like the first LBP is a game that is made knowing it wont sell 5+ million the first day....but it will eventually...

As I recall the first month sales for the original LBP were really, really low. It was a game that got sold based on word spreading around. It sold well eventually, but its initial sales were never anything to write home about. I believe MM is being honest when they say they want to release the best experience possible, rather than fear of bad initial sales.

@Twinturbo120 no I'm not...the point of the matter is they target different groups...what family is going to sit around taking turns shooting people in the head?? I know 6 families...six....that were getting LBP2 along with some Move games and a PS3 for Christmas....

I don't think this has anything to do with the competition. LBP2 is a AAA title in a genre all of its own and wouldn't have had a hard time raking in serious cash through the Holiday season.
Maybe they something unexpected came up during the beta. Either way, it surely is a bummer!

True Chris, LBP2 is a family thing. One of those no-brainer Christmas presents that would actually get use after the "new" wears off of it.
My kids have been anticipating this gem for Christmas for awhile now (especially since I showed them some beta footage). The dilemma now is what can I replace it with this Holiday? There is nothing else like....

Do they already have modnation racers? That's got similar concepts and the game is really fun.

@Vidikron as do I....and Sony knows this as well....my point is that Sony isn't TRYING to get a SHIT ton of sales with LBP2 like Activision is with Black Ops....LBP2 will go on to sale over 5 million copies in its lifetime....and Sony is fine with that.....its not a Sprint....its a marathon to them with this game....

I had my CE fully paid off as well. I'd become so much of a casual gamer that I completely forgot about the bitter sting of delays. If it does lead to a better game, I think it's worth it. If turns out like post-beta MNR where they tried to please everyone, resulting in a great product with some hardcore functionality drawbacks, I'm gonna smash things with a hammer.

Funny thing is, for this game I actually believe the "we're trying to make it perfect line."
Take your sweet, well-earned time MM, I will be buying it either way.

This is bitter sweet. On one hand, this gives me time to save up the cash I need to get the special edition... on the other, that's another couple months of no LBP goodness.
I'm glad Mm isn't rushing things, though. This way that beta, which I hope to be included in, will be put to better use overall.

I suppose this is due to the beta feedback. Hey, I'm really disappointed, but if they can use this extra few months to fix potential issues, I'm all for it. Gives me some time with God of War and GT5 this November.

Wow...
I'm of two minds about this. I'm really glad that they're not going to release LBP2 before it's ready. Considering what this game can do, I can understand the bugs that need squishing. I'm really glad that they're beta testing right now, it makes all the sense in the world!
The other side of me is so so sad! I have the CE preordered from Amazon, and now I'll have to wait till January for some "SWEET ASS LBP2 ACTION!" (DK Shoutout!)
*sigh*

Shit, I had my pre-order pretty well paid off.
Other than GT5, this would have been my only Day 1 purchase for the rest of the year. The rest of the games this year I can wait on or I suspect will drop in price quickly.
2011 Q1 looks STACKED though now -- Dead Space 2, Dragon Age II, Mass Effect 3 maybe, Gears 3, Bulletstorm, and now this.
