If EA's cancellation of its series of NASCAR games has left your need -- your need for speed -- unsatisfied, you'll want to wish on all your lucky stars that this particular rumor is legit. A since-closed thread on the forums of developer Eutechnyx purportedly includes a logo and concept art for NASCAR 2011. VG247 reports that UK sources have confirmed that the title is real and will be published by Activision.
Eutechnyx's Dave Thompson explained to a stock car enthusiast on Twitter that "an announcement is being made soon about our plans," so we shouldn't have to wait long to see if this story pans out. In any event, we're going to go watch Days of Thunder and Talladega Nights a few times so we can stock up on references -- if we end up writing about a NASCAR game over the next year, we're going to need something to say.

I think I'm gonna be all right with the NASCAR offering in GT5 for now.
Thanks for thinking about me though, Activision. Feel free to take a cookie on your way out. I made them myself.
With love.

And don't forget Forza also has stock cars, and even some oval tracks!
I will be interested to see the nascar section of GT5 tho. Not sure about activision but who knows. I'll try a demo.

@ovoon Too bad your blind hate for a corporation will prevent you from playing some great games.

.. I know a friend who can actually vouch that Eutechnyx is developing a Nascar game. He's one of the physics dudes (damn good at it too!). He's developed a Nascar mod actually for Live for Speed as well.. to limited success. Eutechnyx actually has 3 racing games in the works right now. I remember taking a survey for one of them (asking for what cars/tracks you'd like).. now the NASCAR one.. and probably another Ferrari/Supercar Challenge type game.

Honestly, I don't see the sense in buying any more nascar games when GT5 provides the most sophisticated and realistic physics a game can preform.

But there's already Top Gun games available, and some more Need For Speed games on the way.

Why do we need another NASCAR game? Won't someone make an indycar series game? Outside of iracing we don't have a good American open wheel racing game, we get f1 which is fantastic but no Indy 500 to race with 32 of my friends. Sad day, I guess rednecks run the world.

IndyCar racing is so much more exciting. Who doesn't love watching drivers ride around single-file with minimal use of the brakes, thus removing 90% of the skill from the sport?

look, I'll be the first to admit that oval racing in IndyCar is like watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, however I will not sit there and say something like Long Beach, Milwaukee, or Barber Motorsports Park is full of no talent winners. Sure, some are from luck but it takes a lot of skill to drive there. Now, I also imagine you're a Jeff Gordon fan, and yeah I know his roots he's a dirt track guy. Those guys are full of talent, but I've yet to see him at the Indy 500...which last time I checked...is still the fastest race on earth. (outside of salt flats speed test or dragsters).....So next time you bash a sport, remember we do a lot more than turn left, and we happen to be the most diverse racing series on the planet.

Knowing Activision they will probably focus destroying.. I mean improving on line. I can't wait to call in a harrier strike and people watching people in the corners whoring rams for a nuke, fantastic.

I'd buy a Nascar game if it wasn't an oval course, had spectacular crashes, and was made by Criterion and called Burnout.

Does Activision understand that local multiplayer actually matters? Seriously, why make a racing game with only online multiplayer, EA?

Start off with 5 cars, with no engines.
Download engine for $5, or buy a whole new car for $10. Pit crew costs an additional $15, plus $3 for every time you pull into it.
And god help you if you want an actual racetrack

As long as it will be full Nascar experience, I'm game. GT%5 will be great, but I don't think it will go that in-depth in its Nascar experience. I think it'll just be a taste, or a sample.

seriously, now that GT5 has Nascar there should be no reason for this crap.. I already think spending 70 bucks a year on sports updates is ridiculous, spending that on Nascar.. INSANE!
