Ubisoft once considered a rather drastic reboot for its Prince of Persia series, former employee Jonathan Jacques-Belletête revealed to Xbox World 360. Now working for Eidos, Jacques-Belletête described the canceled project as Prince of Persia "in the contemporary world." The pitch was described as "a bit Day After Tomorrow, but replace the snow with sand."
The pitch was eventually shelved, likely due to the continued progress of the already in-development cel-shaded Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed. Considering the direction Ubisoft is taking the latter series, a modern PoP may have been perceived as too similar. However, given Ubisoft's quick decision to abandon the cel-shaded reboot, we wouldn't be surprised if Ubisoft reconsiders reviving this idea from its vault.

I wouldn't go that far, but I didn't enjoy it as much as the sands of time trilogy. Of course, I also didn't enjoy Forgotten Sands as much either. I really liked the characters in the reboot, but I just couldn't get as into the gameplay, and it seemed too repetitive and frustrating at times. Forgotten Sands was ok, but it was sub-par to the rest of those games. I really love the POP series, but at this point I'm not really sure what I want next.

Horrible? Are you insane?!?!?@?#?#?@##)U
The 2008 reboot was the only half decent Prince of Persia game since Sands of Time. They need to leave the SoT series alone. That opportunity has long sailed. They already murdered, raped and milked it entirely and IN THAT ORDER. I mean they even put Disturbed on the soundtrack for one of those games (please don't speak the names of the sequels, I have undergone several therapy sessions to forget. For me it was worse than watching Indy 4 for the first time).
I will never get reviewers and their complaints about the game being too easy. What was too easy about it. They complain there is no life system but honestly how many thousand times did you get saved by it? Yeah that's right. It was a great game, the only thing that was done wrong was the combat system. The thing that made SoT great was it's creative combat flow (outside the obvious trademark puzzles and platforming).

Having played all the recent-gen PoPs, I was glad that they went away from the Sands of Time arc. It was excellent, yes, but Two Thrones wrapped it up so nicely that going back to it would be (and was) awkward and foolish. I played through Forgotten Sands, and it was...okay. Its gameplay was alright (I liked that they made crowd-combat somewhat better), but I couldn't get into the story/characters at all.
The 2008 reboot at least had a sweet aesthetic to it, and I really enjoyed the characters and story. The gameplay was nice too, in a different, relaxing way. I thought it fit with the rest of the aesthetic really well, at least.

@TheBrainninja WOW!!! HORRIBLE!! Thats the same as calling Halo Reach or Halo 3 or Halo ODST Horrible, the reason i point out those games is because they are all loved for different reason by different people. You are not a fan so i get it, but i have to say i played POP 2008 and POP TFS and i like the 2008 POP way better. But thats because i liked the simplicity yet fun behind it. I liked the animation and art style. The costumes that you can play with ( i love POP Classic) I can respect your opinion but i have to totally disagree with you.
That is all.

Modern day Price of Persia probably would have been along the lines of Mirror's edge. It's a shame too. I would have really liked to see the platforming for Persia evolve into the system that Creed has.
I guess this means that Creed was so good that it not only canceled the Splinter Cell game, but the Prince of Persia one as well.

Seems more like a modern Assassin's Creed... then again that'd just basically be AC3: Desmond Finally Does Shit

It's called "Mirror's Edge," and we're still waiting on a sequel.
Honestly, this adds more fuel to the "their IPs are blending together" fire.

I don't mind if it has the same formula with the sands of time as I'm a sucker of that series. Contemporary PoP with time manipulation is awesome. And if you're comparing a modern PoP to Mirror's Edge, yeah they would probably have same parkour style like AC series, but hey Mirror's Edge is FPS. Pretty different game IMHO. The best PoP series so far was the Sands of Time. All the recent releases were average at best. PoP 2008 was beautiful thouhg. lol.

I'm with everyone that said 'ABANDON!??!?'
They better do the sequel. That was the best story and delivery of said story since the real-time narration from SoT.
They played 'I Spy' for god's sake! 'I SPY!'...

I'd love a gritty modern 'mirror's edge' esque parkour game.
something ultra realist based in a 2010 london w/ a good crime story. probably some drug wars.

If 2008 PoP is truly abandoned, Ubisoft can piss off for all I care. I'd give anything for a continuation without any major changes whatsoever.

Am I the only chap who feels this series has (how do I say) Jumped the shark?
After AC, why do I need PoP? Just do an AC set in ancient Persia, ftw. And Egypt too, while we're at it. Ooooh hows about Babylon.
