@Rhamsey What makes you think it's going to be a whole hour before you are disappointed? It's a modern Sonic game.

The English way of spelling is correct because it is English.

For the longest time I've felt like we should clearly differentiate the two as actual separate languages. Though they share much in common, they also have a great number of differences, such as the ou.
That said, you mean British English or American English?

@sonicspike41 There's English, and then there's American English. There is no 'British English'. The Welsh have the Welsh Language, and the Scots… well, they have English, but no one can understand them.

@FighterOfFoo It's more of a spectrum than a certain number of isolated languages\dialects, wouldn't you say? I also tend to think that, regardless of what the overlords of academia say, there is no "correct", only what is commonly accepted or taught in different circles, and everything is constantly evolving and branching. I enjoy "proper" language as much as the next guy, but I'll take any number or sentences starting with "and" if the content is interesting.

Simply calling it English can be misleading. I only added the descriptor to further clarify which English it is. American English and native/original/British English are technically both English. Calling one "English" whilst adding a descriptor to another would only confuse and segregate. Making them both use descriptors would, at least in my opinion, treat both of them fairly as equals.
Besides, I was only joking when I asked which language he was talking about.

No, we shouldn't separate the two. Although Americans have great fun in the whole "added 'u'" in English-English, they are just regional variants of the same language. Within England itself there are many ways to 'speak' English, all conform to the same written English language, however. American-English is the only variant where words are written differently.
It's easy to overlook, but the difference between American-Spanish and Spanish-Spanish is about the same as well. Although I can't personally confirm this due to not speaking a word of either, I just take it on good authority.
Also, the Welsh language is all but dead. English is the primary language of Wales and has been for some time. It's a shame in many respects, being quarter Welsh myself, I know not of my heritage's culture or language, and nor does the vast majority of pure-blood, born and bred Welshmen and Welshwomen last census put the knowledge/use of the Welsh language at ~20% (2004). Oh and the Scottish 'language' is Gaelic, if anyone is interested, which is even more a dead-tongue than Welsh is.

@SSUK To be honest it's the Scandinavians who speak English the most 'properly.'
It does annoy me that the offshoot is usurping the original, like how it was still the game boy 'color' in Britain, but nobody ever ostracises me about not using a z in ostracise.

I can confirm that European Spanish (Castilian, if you want to get all fancy) and American Spanish are quite noticeably different, with Yurop's version sounding more "proper" to American ears. The difference is very comparable to British English and American English. Of the top of my head, one noticeable difference is the pronunciation of the letter "z", which most American Spanish speakers just pronounce as another "s", but Spaniards have a clearly distinct sound for.
That said, every Spanish-speaking country in the Americas has a very distinct accent and lilt to their language; the regional differences are big enough that slang becomes unintelligible across borders: a Dominican could insult a Puerto Rican and the Puerto Rican would be none the wiser.
