Taco Bell has been offering different computer games in their happy meals for years, this is just the first time it was something actually worth getting. And there were Pokemon giveaway's at Burger King like 10 years ago where they had like 60 different toys and you had to try to collect them all. Doing it virtually would be pretty cool though.

Bullshit man. The Atari arcade games they gave away a few months ago were freakin' awesome! When was the last time you seriously saw Lunar Lander in a new retail package :P.

Was gonna say that myself... I have dozens of pokeballs from that because they caught me right at the time I was loving pokemon the most!
I also have all of the "Gold"-plated pokemon card things in the larger pokeballs too from Burgerking...

you would need 649 meals at least if you were to get a pokemon per meal and you could choose what pokemon you get if you are using Black and White as a base for total amount of pokemon. You would need to be rich to do that though.

Not necessarily. Each meal is, what, $5?
649x$5 is $3345.
A devoted fan could easily afford that.

If you enjoy pokemon's gameplay so little that you're prepared to sit through 649 happy meals instead of just catching them all yourself, you deserve every ounce of artery clogging goodness

It'd be less if you only got the base pokemon that you could later evolve, unless you want to have 1 of every single one.

Now we talk about the chances you actually get the game, because they'll probably push the other two toys out more.

I like the idea of getting a poster for a game you don't have - sounds like a horribly deprived christmas.

Remember when BK had those cool Gold Pokemon Plate things?
http://s.ecrater.com/stores/55613/4b7c9cec8867c_55613n.jpg
Of course, they were like 6 dollars and you had to ask to buy them instead of just being inserted into kids meals, but they were still cool.

I remember when BK had actual Pokemon toys as well. Picked up a few of those too.

I didn't even know Taco Bell had kids meals. This is not a bad idea if EA wants to get kids interested in MySims as early as possible.

Pokemon don't haveta put it in Happy Meals to get kids to buy it all up though, I guess thats what seperates it from MySims.

Is it really necessary to try to accelerate the corruption of small children in our society, by assuming anyone over the age of three should be playing video games? Given that I'm posting on Joystiq, I offer no defense to my own (likely unhealthy) love of gaming, but come on. Kids should be running around outside or using their imagination, not sitting playing video games (it's bad enough I do it). If my kid wants to play video games on a PC, they can just as soon as they can afford to buy their own computer to do so.

God I feel old.

I need to go outside and yell at some kids to get off my lawn.

Video games were a large if not crucial part of my childhood, some of my favorite memories include playing pokemon with friends on the school field. We still ran around and played tag and stuff but many of our more mature playground conversations revolved around the dynamics of rpg's we played. It was educational in a fun way and was very social activity. I kind of that kids whose parents have the "no games til you can afford your own computer" mentality were kind of deprived of those great experiences I had with games in my early life.

I certainly wouldnt say games corrupt kids into becoming unhealthy. they just need to be introduced with moderation like sugar or tv.

I agree that video games can be a good thing, but that 'moderation' part of it is something certain parents lack the ability to properly enforce. As to the "no games til you can afford your own computer" thing, I think that is more a concern for throwing kids to the proverbial wolves of the internet without the proper armor to defend against the worst of it.

I think I'm more annoyed at something like this being 'forced' on kids, than I am at the actual thought of young kids playing video games. I have a four year old nephew, who managed to play Mario Kart online a while back, that I'm not the least bit concerned will have anything but positive experiences with gaming at such a young age.

I think all of this is just the misanthropic old man in me rearing it's ugly head.

That Pokemon idea isn't bad at all, actually. Buy a Happy Meal, get a code you can use in that new Dream World for Black & White. That would be pretty cool.
