@EeK85 It doesn't, that's why. It shows a cleaver mix that's half old Dante half new Dante. Personally, I've never been a huge fan of Devil May Cry, Dante annoyed the hell out of me. Probably because I didn't get into the series on the ground floor. I also found many of the plot lines to be ridiculous. That's something that even the most hardcore DMC fan HAS to admit. But it's fine because that's not what the series has been about in the past.
Admittedly, I have been spoiled by extremely story driven games like Mass Effect and Uncharted, and poor choices in description of certain events and how they are portrayed become very obvious when you play a game while looking specifically at the story. For me, story is just as much a driving force in games as gameplay. If a game has great gameplay but lack luster or hard to follow story, such as FFXIII, I'm probably not going to finish it.
Another example would be Halo: Reach, which is in the same vein as DMC as far as story to gameplay balance is concerned. Both series rely heavily on their gameplay and the unique situations they present to drive the story forward, both have either weak and/or hard to follow overall narratives.
The camera in DMC also killed me when I tried to get into it, especially since it stuck around so long. That ish might have worked for resident evil, with its slow moving zombies, but fast things trying to cut me to ribbons become unnecessarily difficult to fight when I'm battling them back and forth across the line that determines a switch of camera angle. Fixed cameras all the time suck.

Well DLC is supposed to be a ridiculous fast twitch action for the talented gamer. I found the controls easy. Almost intuitive. In part to the camera. Then again anyone who has beaten dmc3 I think can master any game on any difficulty =P. So friggin brutal and fun. The first area I couldn't beat for the longest time. But i just forced myself to get better and better and it was so rewarding. Also regarding story, you don't watch a martial arts movie for the deep drama do you?. You watch it for the ass whooping! You just need just enough plot for you to know why your fighting. That's what DMC is. Kind of like DBZ. Just supposed to be crazy and entertaining. If I want a good story I play a Hironobu Sakaguchi game or Metal Gear Solid. I definitely wouldn't play mass effect. At least not Mass Effect 1, for a good story. Mass Effect 2 I assume is better but I can't bring myself to play it based on how bad mass effect 1 was story wise. Ever play Lost Odyssey? THAT was a good story. Battle system was just ok but each person had character. My chick frigin cried during the funeral scene it was so touching. And oh my gawd A Thousand Years of Dreams was so Brilliant. With Mass effect every conversation wasn't a conversation. It was just a series of emotionless interviews with no memorable scenes or humor or life to it. Then you get to the end and speak to the big red alien thing that's wants to destroy the universe and interview him, and he doesn't really answer anything. It was like talking to a robot that had canned responses. I was like "the game culminates" to this? lol. We had a real good laugh. But I digress.
DMC isn't supposed to have a deep story. Neither is Tekken or any other hardcore action game. This is intentional. Pick up something else for a deep story. The fixed camera gives it a Certain cinematic feel and artistic aesthetic. It's kind of like the old Resident evil games. Made you afraid to see what was around every corner.

I agree. DMC'd gameplay was easy to get into and incredibly difficult to master. Only through hard work could you barely pull yourself alive from Dante Must Die.
@oJMan240o
DMC's basic idea is that Dante is arrogant and that the story is cornier then 10 Final Fantasies (I might be exaggerating a bit). However, Dante was more then capable of backing up that bark of his. That's exactly what people loved: to be shoved into the shoes of someone virtually immortal. As in any over the top action game/martial arts movie, all you need is a main character who can kick ass and an opponent who needs an ass woopin.
if
Character A kicks Character B's ass
win
else
fail
end
If I wanted a great story I'd slow down the gameplay tenfold. To keep up with insane action you have to keep the thinking down to a minimum and lower the downtime. If I wanted long cutscenes to show off the love Nero had for his little lassy, I wouldn't want a game that suddenly contrasts to that idea and make me kill 500 demons at the end of the cinematic.
I take the Legacy of Kain series as my prime exemple. It was an action centric game that revolved solely on it's Story (especially that last installment: Defiance). The gameplay as slower and every room (basically) offered a new cinematic. You have to keep a certain flow to the game. You can't just start/stop start/stop. Everything has to feel fast in a DMC game which is why Story is cut off.

It's not, unfortunately. The PlayStation Blog has some kind of unique "preview image" for all of their videos, and I guess with this one they tried to sum up the nature of its interview with a clever mix of both Dante's old and new looks, like oJMan240o pointed out. False advertisement? They sure as heck fooled me (I thought that at one point Ninja Theory actually considered going with the white hair for Dante's new RocknRolla, meth-infused look).

DMC2 Dante still looks the illest. Cross that with DMC3/4 Gameplay and DMC 1 locales. OMGGGGG. Ultimate game.
Ninja Theory does not fit into the equation. Enslaved demo has horrible gameplay.
And did he just say "toughen him up a bit"? Lol yeah they sure did that.

Looking at the creative director, I know understand why he looks like a typical hipster douche. Also I hate the way the guy in Enslaved looks...
With that said, I'm still buying both games.

Also, excuse me if I'm wrong, but did that real-life Dante just say that original Dante was too over-the-top?! That's outrageous!

Indeed.
Removing the over the top sensibility from Devil May Cry is like making God of War a family friendly game where instead of blades Kratos has stuffed bears on ropes and instead of blood people shoot candy. Actually scratch that, considering the unlockable costumes in gow 1 and 2 that very well seems like something the God of War devs would do (and it would be awesome).

Kratos' Family Fun Candy Crushing Adventure Time? I'd buy that, Pandora's Pinata Collector's Edition of course. Everything would come in a Pinata in the shape of Kratos' wife's head and you get one of those stuffed bears on ropes to try and beat it open with. That way you can be just like Kratos, without the violence.
When you finally get it open you'd be met by the cotton candy protective padding on the inside. Extras include unicorn horn lolipop, a sugar statue of Zues (Blue Raspberry Lightning Bolts included), cutesy halloween skeleton cookies, and another teddy bear since you probably took the head off the other one while trying to open the pinata.

@logicplay they just sort of stand around. Those vampire creatures weren't doing anything to him. They were vegan. I saw a trailer where those dudes were minding their own business and I guy took out his aggression on some nice people after being made fun of for using spirit fingers.

@WolfForager I'm sorry I guess I am just old fashioned to believe gaming news outlets should have news reported asap. The longer the wait, the less reliable the site is and this is 2 days late! If anything I am encouraging joystiq to report their news quicker and not days late. In my opinion, if you are a day late on news, you shouldn't really report on it without citing a source. (Which they did, I'm just stating my belief here.)

And while I am at it put it in proper 3rd person enlarge the levels so he can get into nooks and cranny's to find the things that unlock things and make a new combo system that works off the buttons GOW style so you can fight more efficiently. You can do this with mega man as well only make it more FPS like....with larger levels.. :P
