F1 2010 races past Halo, Dead Rising 2 and Civ 5 on UK charts

It would seem the long-awaited return of Formula One racing to high-def consoles is more welcome than a doomed planet, a zombie-filled casino and even civilization itself, with Codemasters' F1 2010 taking the pole position on the UK charts last week. According to Chart-Track, the game didn't just take first -- it lapped the competition, beating sales of Halo: Reach and Dead Rising 2 combined.

Reach lost its grasp on first, with an 80 percent drop in sales, while Dead Rising 2 premiered in third. Civilization 5 debuted in fourth, though it's worth noting that Chart-Track (like NPD in the States) doesn't track those nebulous digital distribution sales. Rounding out the top five is Sony Move's apparent breakout title: Sports Champions.

Other premieres on the charts this week were Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock at sixth and Final Fantasy XIV in tenth. Dependable top ten titles Just Dance and Red Dead Redemption are out, dropping to eleventh and sixteenth place, respectively. Check out the top ten UK titles after the break.

It'd be nice to have a F1 game on PC again. I don't think there has been any that I'm aware of for at least 5 years.

Let me just say that multi-monitor (I use Eyefinity) and the G27 wheel work amazingly well in F1 2010.

I'm one of the mugs that bought F1 2010 because I belived Codemasters hype. After racing AI which doesn't set real lap times, winning the championship in the worst car, on the hardest level, and having save games corrupted, I'm done with it.

They got so much right, and fell down in the final few hurdles.

@carmaction Rage about what? It's impossible to lose. The AI rubber banding ensures that you are kept near the front.

You might want to go talk to Steve Hood, the lead dev. He's on Twitter under the name T4RG4 and they confirmed the game corrupts the save file (on all platforms) if you don't race immediately after an R&D test session.

been playing F1 2010 for quite some time now and i absolutely love it!! and loved it more when watched Singapore race and soon after was in game driving on same track!!

Why am I so sure that these sales charts do not incorporate Digital sales; which of course, makes a sizable portion of all PC sales?

Because Farmville (they'd count digital item sales and ad revenue too, right?) and various PopCap games are not constantly occupying the entire top 10?

I got it for free when I bought an LG bluray system. (since they've had a campaign all over europe since march I think) I'm betting that's scewing the results somewhat... :)

Why don't you a little research before you make a assumption based on how it sells in the US. Sure Halo and Dead Rising are great games but F1 is way more popular in the rest of the world then the US. So when a game likes this comes out its going to sell a lot of copies.

It's one thing to not know how the charts work, it's another to ask if the clearly stated UK charts include the rest of Europe... Seriously I know they've been slaking off on what's asked of students these days but it can't be at the point were people are unaware of such basic geography.

if f1 2010 can take first place over reach. cant wait to see the sale figures for GT5, ill be shocked if its not the best selling PS3 to date, and disappointed if its dosent come close to halos sales.
i got f1 just tie me over until GT5 and tune my skils.

I know that Halo has a crazy amount of fans and would have never thought that a Formula one game would outsell it. Good job Code Masters!
