270 is insane. A new 160gb ps3 is 299. I know it's going to surpass the 200 mark but idk man it's a handheld. Guess that's the price you pay for glassesless 3D.

That's the price I'm paying for portable Ocarina of Time and Paper Mario.

Woot?

It's a little unfair to compare a day-1, outta the gate, price with the current price of a 4 year old piece of hardware. That thing was $600, right? My newest Android cost x2 the 3DS.

Converting the price into dollars doesn't get an accurate price.

€200 is less than what the Wii cost at launch in Europe, so it would be safe to assume that a €200 retail price in Europe would equate to a price of $230ish in the USA.

@PersonOfSorts You have a valid point, but when it comes down to the consumer they only care about the bottom line. If they see a handheld the same price as a console/blu-ray player/media center, they're bound to consider the price they have to pay now and not what something cost 4 years ago. If anything, they would be more inclined to buy the PS3 since it did cost $600 at one time and now they can get it for $300.

When you think about it systems Euro prices are usually the same as the USD ones so hopefully $200 3DS!

You're comparing exchange rates directly. In exchange rates, Europe has gotten screwed over long since the introduction of the Euro

200 Euros probably means 200 dollars, possibly even less, even though that bucks the exchange rate entirely.

So I'm guessing a $215 price for here in the U.S...
a) wasn't the N64's initial price around this area?
b)would they really sell it for more than the wii?

Nintendo's prices are asymmetrical to anything other than the product itself. I mean, they're offering Wii for the same price as 360, as little sense as that makes.

Even if it was $270, that's only $20 more than a PSP go.

I'd be more than willing to pay the extra $20 for a 3DS.

This source is full of bull

basically it's taking source from engadget which took source from nintendo 3ds blog. Then through chinese whispers thinks the information is valid. It's misunderstood the Twitter post about 20th November release date.

The N64 was roughly $250 when it launched back in 1996, but they're saying it's $270 for a 3DS? May I believe that when I see it. Hopefully Nintendo will release more info about this alleged launch date.

$270 in Europe sounds like $250 here which isn't bad considering the PSP launched at that price.

$270 makes this easy to pass up. We already know it's going to be the shitty V1 anyway. Nintendo will roll out a much better model a year later... pricing V1 at $270 makes waiting even easier.

So then from reading this they're just guessing the price and release date, they don't really know anything 'till September 29 and i highly doubt it's going to be almost as much as ps3 knowing Nintendo.

If it's €200 here in Europe it'll be $200 in the US just like every other console and handheld. Sucks to be us.

$270 is definitely steep. but personally, i'm paying whatever they charge for it. i'm totally in nintendo's pocket with this thing. this is the future. i hope software stays around about current prices. i'll be pissed if i have to pay $50 for a handheld game. and there better be a full pack-in game for that price! (hopefully zelda)

Guys, please stop freaking out thinking it will cost $270, because it won't. All the article is saying is that $270 is the equivalent to €200. You lucky US citizens always get things cheaper than us Europeans. For example, when you guys were freaking out that the PS3 cost $599, we had to pay £425, which was then the equivalent of $850. The 3DS will not cost $270.

I know, name the last EU product that cost the exchange rate over here in the US? It will be $220 most likely, but I'll be buying day 1 no matter what they charge.

I'm gonna say the price will be 189.99 the price the dsi xl used to be, because it seems kinda suspicious that Nintendo would cut their dsi prices right before they announced the 3ds price.

Price isn't the major factor for me, it's release date. If it comes out before the end of this year, then I stand a chance of getting it as a Christmas gift. Otherwise, I'll have to somehow scrounge up the money for it myself, which is not gonna be fun.

Not too bad considering the DSi almost reached $200 and it doesn't have half the new tech that 3DS does.
