Resistance 3 goes cross-country in first screens
57
Like Batman: Arkham City before it, Resistance 3's possibly first, very convincing-looking screenshots were found on the Flickr account of user "1337guyzorz2." As seen in the gallery below, they're a melange of concept art and apparent in-engine screens, highlighted by screaming, murderous Chimera and a destroyed St. Louis.
Also seen are Resistance 2's Joseph Capelli and who who we believe to be Nathan Hale's sorta-sister Susan Farley (her screens are labeled "Susan," among other things), both of which will seemingly play key roles in the forthcoming game. Insomniac offered "No comment" and Sony hadn't gotten back to us on the authenticity of these images by the time of publishing.

Only in videogame "journalism" can you have the word "l337guyzorz2" in your source and sound somewhat reputable.

The Gateway Arch wasn't built until 1963, a full decade after the entire country was destroyed in Resistance 2.

@pitchblack23 We don't yet know the date in which this game will take place...it could be a decade after the events of the first two games. We don't know yet.

Regardless, if he is indeed correct (and he is), no one would be around to build it, and if they were, why would they? They'd be focused on Chimera-huntin'.
But I agree with above poster, it's an alternate universe. Humans didn't have that kind of weapon tech either.

On top of what everyone else said already consider this: that particular picture you are talking about is not a game render but a concept art painting. They are created to establish the concept for the game or model. Designers are usually given a little more free reign during the design period to come up with places, styles, moods, and so forth. They don't necessarily research history to make sure everything fits. In short, that's just a concept that can (And probably will) change before the game is even released.

I hope they bring back campaign co-op (even if it makes no sense in the story). Playing Halo: Reach this week reminds me that fun is more important than story consistency in some games.

yea that was a feature i missed in 2 as well. i liked the online co-op a bunch but campaign co-op was great in it's own right.

The story in R2 was so great and underated, they told coles story in such an epic way. I know what happened to him at the end of R2, but they will be crazy not to involve him somehow, hopfully hes at least the last boss or somthink.
F it im going to go rape the story again now on R2 lol
Damb i cant wait for this game
(reading that and thinking "damb i sound homo" lol)

What? R2's story was terrible at least by comparison to R1. R2 was nothing but Hale yelling at his men to keep moving and they were all slowly being taken over...that was the extent of it. We didn't get to learn anything new about the characters or the chimera really. It wasn't a bad game, but story-wise it was the worst out of R1 and the PSP game.

I think you mean Hale lol...
Anyway, I loved the story too. I actually like R2 a little more than R1. The only thing I didn't like was it seemed a little more "future sci-fi" instead of the "historical sci-fi" the first had going for it. It looks as if they're going back to that mood for the third, which is a good thing.
TRYING TO AVOID SPOILERS BELOW...
The ending to R2 was a great swerve and I'd love to see both guys from the last scene play a big part in R3.

@acefondu Actually if you read INTO the story of R2 not only just play and watch it, R2 has tons of story progression. Also included many themes, such as will to power, will to survive, etc. It also progresses the story on things in the US, and the pre-emption strategy they had tried to use, and the liberty defense perimeter. It also talks about Daedalus and goes more into depth about the Chimera. It showed that the Chimera weren't only a smart species, they were also strategic and had tons of evolutions and chains of command. It also delved into Nathan Hale's origin and along with the super soldier origin. The scientist Malikov or whatever explained alot and even killed himself because he saw himself as a asset to the genocide or extinciton of the human race. and also Daedalus being one of the leaders of the chimera has a origin of being human which leads to many possibilities. It also progresses the "Calling" in which we still need to find out.

Aha I know don't worry I think I remember hearing Cole's name was originally supposed to be Nate, so don't feel totally stupid for saying it lol.
But I'm going to agree with you on Hale's progression. It was sad, especially when you're on the last level and Capelli asks why the drones aren't picking you up as a threat, you know Hale's progressed too far.

These screens are what I love about Insomniac, Sucker Punch and Naughty Dog - they share methods and as a result each game looks exponentially better than the last. It's the type of leap in quality you see between old and new consoles, not games 1-2 years apart. Really amazing what collaboration and desire to share can achieve.
Uncharted 2 > Uncharted
R&C: Crack in Time > R&C: Future
Resistance 2 > Resistance
...and thus far, from what we've seen:
Infamous 2 > Infamous
Resistance 3 > Resistance
Uncharted 2 > Uncharted
R&C: Crack in Time > R&C: Future
Resistance 2 > Resistance

Infamous 2 > Infamous
Resistance 3 > Resistance

Well looking at this it does look like Nathans Foster sister, as described in the book. I feal as if Hale will not be takin out of the game. James kicks in here and Im guessing you can play as all of them Hale, Susan Farley, capelli and james. As Insomniac loves COOP. There could be a drop in drop out 4 player coop for it, or its a separate mode. But For a fact HALE is not dead in the past they seem to kill off the main character only to bring them back in the sequal or whatever. So all we can do is wait now. Hopefully we can see something of it at the VGAs or E3 2011 or even something sneak preview on GTTV. BTW Resistance would be nothing without NATHAN HALE!
