World of Darkness by CCP revealed at The Grand Masquerade

Descending from the rafters and morphing from a bat into an exciting reveal trailer, CCP Games unveiled forthcoming Vampire: The Masquerade-based MMO World of Darkness this past week at the Grand Masquerade convention in New Orleans. Ardwulf's Lair reports that the game will "focus on player politics and social interaction," but we won't see that in action until the game launches at some point in 2012.

A shaky-cam video of the teaser trailer reveals a modern-day setting for the game. Interestingly, CCP Games' White Wolf studio in Atlanta, Georgia is handling development (and consequently hiring) rather than the company's Iceland studios.

Yay another ccp product with trailers that arn't like the actual game

@Richstall Perhaps you've never seen a trailer for an MMO before? Check out the trailers for Cataclysm -- those look NOTHING like the actual game. The game's industry as a whole is notorious for teasers that don't look like the final product. This is not endemic to CCP and there's no reason to act like it is.

@Benjamin Gilbert apparently u dont play eve, where they have perfect battles in the trailers, but in game maybe 10 people will crash a server

@Richstall Apparently you don't play eve, because I have friends who play and take part in 100+ ship battles. And I'm pretty sure there's only one Eve server, so taking down a server would be taking down the entire game.

@Bananarama lool, you have no idea how the server works, its one server yes, but a each system is hosted off separate servers, a whole region of space can go down, but every other region will still stay up.

Vampire craze never dies. It's a hundreds of year old legend that people love. Think of how many dracula's there are.

Seems unto every generation, a new vampire love is born. It will never die, just as the vampires themselves =P

I'm cautiously optimistic. I love WoD. The description mentions this will be Vampire-based. Is this true? I know it's still early but are there plans to release any other character subset like Mage, Changeling ect?

I've always shyed away from Vampire and devilish shit just because it's never done well and pretty miserable when it is... however, this could be good... as long as people play it for the right reasons and we don't get fat cnuts typing

My sole opinion, but considering that I believe that Blizz and CCP has the 2 best MMO's out there, I am very excited to see how this will turn out.

To me:

WoW - Best Magical-Fantasy based MMO
Eve - Best Non-Magical Fantasy based MMO

I always wanted to play a game about Vampire Politics... it'd be like WoW's trade chat, except the discussions mostly do matter, and no one will deny that they suck.

It seems like vampire lore is full of sex and romance. Hopefully both will be present in this game. Rawr rawr!

Interesting, hopefully this MMO will be profitable.
