Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater 3DS set for Spring, E3 trailer online
27
One of the belles of last night's Nintendo press ball was the 3DS version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. According to Andriasang, Konami revealed that the "revival" of the PS2 stealth-action classic is set to arrive in Japan next Spring, assumedly a couple short months after the handheld's February 2011 release.
If the short clip from the game shown during the event's 3DS software montage didn't satisfy your need for three-dimensional jungle crawling, you can check out the entire video demo we got to see at E3 over on the game's official site. Of course, it'll be missing an entire dimension when you watch it -- man, this whole "releasing 2D trailers for the 3DS" thing is going to get confusing, quick, isn't it?

seriously can't wait to see the 3DS show what it's made of. this is really one of the most impressive feats for a game coming out so close to launch

From the looks of it, Snake has been equipped with the "on the field conditioner" for that bouncy hair no military operative should go without.

I'm not trying to be a dick about it, but is anti aliasing difficult in 3D? With the relatively low resolution, I think it should be implemented.

Naked Snake is certainly more detailed on the 3DS compared to the PSP:

But seems to be lacking when you compare it to the PS2 version:

Of course it's still in development so there's a chance it will look even better.

I disagree. Look at the ps2>3ds comparison. There are more vertices on the cliffs in the 3DS, much like there is more detail on the bridge. I'd argue that the major difference there is due to lower resolution on the 3ds. and any reduction in texture quality is made up with more detailed terrain/character modeling.

i still can't believe how exited people get to play a PS2 game that they probably already played before, but then bash a PS3 firmware that lets them play the same old PS2 games in 3D like this version. boggles the mind.

WHOA, now that looks impressive! Sure, it doesn't have full screen anti-aliasing, but who cares? Still looks better than an PSP game I've seen.

I hope it looks better than the PSP, since it's more powerful. And the PSP game is a bad comparison, since MGS3 on the PS2 is graphically superior to peace walker.

Between this and Megaman Legends 3, I'm going to have to buy a 3DS.

Woohoo! Can't wait! Why make a new MGS when you can make a 3rd version of MGS3!
Yippee!!!

I'm so surprised to see such a great lineup for the 3DS already.
This is catching my attention much more than the DS ever did.
Both RE games, Splinter Cell, Metal Gear, Street Fighter, DOA, just to name a few that interest me.
Looks like nintendo really wants to have more mature titles, rather than the DS and Wii where most titles are sorta aimed for everyone. With mature games few and far between (I dont mean M rated however)
Fine by me one of the reason I love my PSP so much.

I wonder what the camera control mapping is going to be like. I can't stand moving the camera with the face buttons on the PSP.

I am eagerly anticipating the 3DS launch. I feel like between the PSP, DS, and iPhone, I am all set for portable gaming unless the device does something new. Much like how I am not begging for 3D on my TV, I'm also not begging for it on my portable game device, but if it impresses....well, i'm a sucker when I'm impressed.
Can't wait to see it, in the plastic.

I was hoping they would change the name Snake Eater because, to be honest, that sounds really, really bad.

I don't understand what Nintendo is thinking. Making a machine powerful enough that there will be console ports just like PSP (we're already seeing it with Resident Evil and MGS) but keeping the same control limitations which were the downfall of 99% of PSP console ports. These limited control options just aren't good enough for operating a game designed for a real console. Peace Walker built its control scheme around those limitations and that worked out pretty well, but most games won't.
