We'll admit it: We couldn't keep our mouths shut. Not just that -- we couldn't keep our eyes from bulging out of their sockets and our feet from skipping up and down the LA Convention Center halls. The 3DS technology was that impressive in person (in the midst of an otherwise fairly ho-hum E3 year, especially). In fact, we were so wrapped up in our glee, we didn't notice Nintendo was watching. Very closely, apparently.
During Nintendo of Japan's analysts meeting yesterday, it was suggested that the now official ¥25,000 ($300) price point for the handheld might be pushing consumer limits, as reported by Bloomberg (via Andriasang). (It should be noted that prices have not been confirmed for other regions; though at least one analyst expects the 3DS to retail for $250 in the U.S.) In response, Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata said the price was set by a number of factors that went unspecificed, save for one: reaction to the device at E3.
Rest assured, we're already practicing our poker faces for the next time Nintendo unveils the future before our very eyes.

I'm planning on pre-ordering it as soon as I can and making monthly payments. And I knew that it was going to be expensive with the new 3d technology.

At least you guys admit your mistake.
So when are you going to tell us where we can send you a bill for the price increase?

It's the only way I can justify spending 250-300 dollars in a handheld.
Do I need it ? Probably not, but oh well.

Nintendo should really go with 250$, it really would be the 3DS's winning edge.

I think that they should do a promotion at gamestop like they did with the DSi. You could trade in the DS you have & put it towards the 3DS. Like say 120 for DSi XL, 100 for DSi, 80 for DS Light & 60 for a Original DS

The media going apeshit really shouldn't be anyone's basis for doing anything, given how oppositional the media has been to Nintendo's winning strategy, especially
Iwata's just being obtuse as he often likes to be.

See, the keyword here is games. Something the iPod touches don't do very well. You go ahead and have fun with Angry Birds and... "100 sex positions" while I play Metal Gear Solid and Zelda

Sadly it's going to be even more expensive in my country, probably 2 times more than in the states ( most stuff here is sold replacing dollars with pesos (chilean) in the price, wich makes it actually cost twice as much).
probably going to order it on Amazon if they bother to make it avaible outside the US (unlike the PS3, wich is too expensive here).

I'm buying it. Because, seriously, $300 isn't bad for what is easily the most impressive device I've seen in a long time.
Mobility is the future, and, more importantly, the present. I agree, the graphics on the PS3 are damn impressive, but they are limited to the TV you hook it up to. Nintendo has revealed the 3DS to be a Swiss Army Knife of amazing, and everyone was squealing before the price was said.
I don't have a large TV. But I do have more room in my backpack for a slightly larger screen, some 3D without glasses and the idea of a GB/GBC virtual console.

Yeah but think how much you'd pay if you wanted to get 3D on a "real console".

I'd pay FIVE-HUNDRED-AND-NINETY-NINE DOLLARS for this! Wait. No I wouldn't. But I'd at least like to hear that exact amount once again told to be the cost of a new system at a conference...

So is the shovelware that the DS gets ALSO our fault?

Even if it's $250 that's more than I'm willing to pay for a handheld. I can go buy a brand new 4GB 360 for $200 if I wanted to. I'm sure the 3DS will be great and all, but the Wii was $250 when it launched and now the 3DS could be just as much, if not more.
Plus my DS Lite has just been sitting on my desk for a really long time...I doubt a 3DS would get too much use either. Although the new Pokemon game might make me pick it back up for a while.

Absurd. If they're going to charge $300, it damned well better include better hardware than two 266 MHz ARM11's and 64 MB of RAM, especially if web browsing is truly a feature. Most websites nowadays would eat that alive.
