No thanks. I've waited this long, I can certainly wait until this generation ends for them to do it right and take advantage of the next gen hardware in about 2 years time. Unless somehow, the economy tanks around the world again and the Kinect and Move are actual HUGE successes to not make it worth their time.

How about the actual Final Fantasy VII. Imagine the fanboy harmony when Ocarina of Time and FF7 come together on one console. Peace and love.

At first I was wondering if it'd fit, given it was a multi-disc game, but then I remembered MGS3 was also going to be on the 3DS, and realized... they totally could get it on there.

I'm not the biggest fan of FF7 (personal favorites are 9 & 10), but it'd still be cool if they remade FF7-9 for the 3DS.

@sonicspike41 But MGS3 isn't a giant open world game like VII-IX, so updating/rendering it all would be a lot more difficult that MGS3, which is rather linear.

And why port it when you can get on the PSP for 10 bucks each.

I wouldn't consider FF7-9 open world, unless you count the overworld map exploration stuff, but that's nowhere near as complicated as the actual level designs if I remember right.

Open world would be more like GTA or Red Dead Redemption in my opinion. Open world to me is more like games where the entire thing is open, with only minor sections being separate, not the other way around.

@sonicspike41 The world being open for exploration and extra stuff to do adds to an open world. Sure, its not sandbox like RDR or GTA, but still open.

@ZexionArmando Are you kidding me? You're way off base. There's far more geometry in MGS 3 than any of the world maps in FF7-9. Also, if you recall, the world map in those games would render as you go. If you went fast enough you could see it happen. It didn't load the entire map into memory.

It's certainly achievable. Easily on the 3DS.

Please let FF7 die out. It was great back in the day but for the love of god let it just die.

@(Unverified) Well, technically, VII is still great, and never gets old, for me at least. But all of these extra games are getting old... Except Crisis Core, which was great.

I agree. Move on and let it die. All the great enjoyment I got from FFVII has been soiled by terrible spin-offs, a boring prequel starring characters I didn't give a damn about, and a dumb movie sequel that should have never been made.

@Hank Hill It WAS. Not it IS. At the time it was godly. Now, I think the materia system would still up after an update but the rest, meh. Still a fine game but compared to games now it's obviously the first step into modern rpgs.

Considering how XII and XIII were, I'd say it'd be wise for them to go back a step and reconsider what made the series great. What we have now are good RPGs but certainly not true Final Fantasy ones.

We definitely need an open world again.

I replay old FF's maybe every year and no FF7 is still the best in the series for me, the combat system is perfect, the materia is perfect, the storyline is great, the mini games are amazing, chocobo breeding and racing is great, I just love everything about FF7.

FFX is a close second for me but yeah, unless you played FF7 at the time you won't be able to fully appreciate just how amazing the game is.

i loved 7 but it has not aged well at all. i didn't even really like 13 or Crisis Core either. it certainly was the base for modern RPG's but without an HD remake with extras, i honestly can't play it again after playing some of todays JRPG's (i've tried).

Also how far did u get before deciding the game was the worst £8 u ever spent?
I'd say the real story doesn't start til you get to Kalm

Bugs the f*** out of me when people don't give things a chance, my girlfriends brother had a go on FFVII and after 10 minutes declared it as utter crap.

@den69 XII wasn't too bad if you ignore the meh story and lame characters.
The setting and gameplay were still awesome imo.
I haven't played XIII so I can't comment on that one, but I'm sure it's just another case of "IT'S NOT LIKE THE OLD ONES SO IT SUCKS!!!!1!!1!"

@ToastyToasy

Nah that's not the reason XIII sucks it sucks because it has no gameplay to it other than fighting. Seriously.
Nothing to do, no one to talk to, no towns to visit not even any cool hidden stuff in the game and the closest thing to a mini game it has is... More fighting.. lol Cie'th stone missions, basically the marks from XII. I got one trophy until platinum on it, so I think I can give a fair assessment of it personally.

XII was terrible in my opinion the worst I've played, it will say 'go to x' u get there expecting something decent to happen, maybe some interesting dialogue, maybe u will learn more about the characters but instead u get there and then it says 'now go to y'... Then basically repeat that through the entire game and that is FFXII lol

Out of curiosity how much of VII did you play? Coz when I first played it I thought it was terrible, but as soon as I got out of midgar I started loving the game.

So it's a remake, and not just a port right? I know his quoted comment says remake, but in the first paragraph JC says port.

Also, it sounds... interesting. It sounds like he's thinking of adding some kind of multiplayer (co-op maybe?) element to it too.

Too bad it'd be at least 4-5 years away ( 2-3 years for an HD project then another 1-2 years for it). By the time he gets around to it we'll probably already be on the Nintendo 4DSi.

Every derivative FFVII subproduct i've played/watched is bad, although i haven't played Crisis Core (which everyone says it's good).

I recently downloaded the original FFVII on PSN and it is far better than i remembered, it deserve all the praise it gets, but STOP MILKING MONEY from the fans who does not have much sense!

Unless you make a decent remake, like FFIV DS, or just a high-def CG background with new models for PSN, which would be great.

Are there going to be any actual new games on the 3DS? All I've read about it has led me to believe it has a massive library full of ports and remakes... and that's it.

Does nobody want a HD FFVI remake? That would be worthy of my money... FFVII has been done to death. Good game, but just mutilated with sequels/prequels and never ending hopes of an HD remake.

It's extremely over-rated as well, it is a very good game, don't get me wrong, but if you've sat down and played the entire series in order (or generally in order), there are better FF games.

FFVI is a gem and needs an HD remake for PS3/360. However, I'd be equally happy with just PS3, since I'd get to play it anyway.
