The 3rd Birthday TGS trailer speaks our language
23
You may have a bit of trouble picking up on the particulars of this finally released TGS trailer for The 3rd Birthday, thanks to its Japanese voice dub. However, an equal portion of the video is also created using the universal language: Violence, inflicted onto and by gigantic, horrifying monsters.

The only thing this trailer has me wondering is why this is a PSP game and not a full blown 1080p PS3 title.

I didn't understand a word in that trailer, but man is it speaking my language! I'm so gonna get this. And because I put "so" in that sentence, you know it's so true.

What's the deal with Aya body jumping in this one? She never showed that ability in the first two titles. Kinda makes it a tad corny.

I'm not feeling this. It seems they turned Aya into body-hopping ninja who has futuristic technology and an entire team of special forces at her disposal... Seems like a far jump from the first two that were at least more realistic and didn't have Aya steamrolling enemies like they were nothing.

I'm pretty sure that any game that lets a girl shoot fire out of her hands and has creepy vomit colored monsters that mess things up like no ones business, you can't complain about what they allow a character to do.
Side note: I had the demo disc for ps1 that had a trailer for Parasite Eve 1. I must have watched it 30 times, but I could never find the game. Can't wait for it o PSN.

Mmm. I know one of the Joystiq staff played it and wasn't impressed, but I'm having a hard time thinking this wouldn't be fun.
I'm very much hoping SE can get it together to put the first two on PSone Classics.

'Twas Andrew who previewed it. I could've looked that up before I hit submit, but I'm not smart. Sorry I forgot you, Mr. Yoon!

I want to play this game, looks like fun.
But, I't's just me or the strategy is just sacrifice your fellow soldiers to keep Aya's ass safe?

From the Joystiq review:
Unfortunately, playing the game is a whole other story. The demo I played at TGS was entirely combat-focused, and it simply wasn't fun. The game devolves to a very basic third-person shooter: lock on to an enemy, strafe, and fire with one of your four equipped weapons. In the corridor segments, where you're simply moving down one hallway into the next, there was no need for strategy. The shooting gallery-style level design doesn't work as well when you can simply lock on to an enemy and blast away. Considering the survival horror roots of the franchise, I was disappointed by the lack of suspense. There was never a moment where I felt like the game was even trying to scare me.

I just hope they don't pull at Metroid: Other M with the storyline for Ayea with this game.

Aya seems to be always in horrible pain in these trailers. Oh, and the music is definetely Parasite Eve-ish. The only thing that worries me, is that PSP and shooters don't merge well...

I'm still not convinced this is Aya and not her clone from 2.
Guess I'll need to wait for the wiki... or a PE game that fans like myself will actually want to play. Replace the music and the title, and this could be any sub-par JPAG.

This may be one of the last great psp games before the next generation of handhelds! I know I'm buying it! :D

Hrmz seems like a good Ps3 game rather than a PSP game... The beginning of the video kinda makes me think of War of the Worlds...or tentacle porn...with lady liberty.

@Faceless Troll I can appreciate what you're saying, but only as a sole PS3 user. Now as a PSP gamer, all I can say is. . . seriously?! I used to remember a time when this website was. . . you know. . . A PSP BLOG! Yes, a PSP, not to be confused with a PS3.
When this current-gen disaster began, I was always eager to keep the PSP's potential as independent from the PS3 as possible, but that was wishful thinking. These days, this website and a majority of its viewers seem to subscribe to the kind of thinking where PSP--with all its grand hardware--should be restricted to watered-down side-scrolling ports that could be put to shame by even the PSone. Meanwhile, half-decent, visually credible titles like this one, should be moved on to the PS3, which already has a large SLEW of worthwhile titles that have more than cemented its standing this generation.
We've had a few good games, no doubt, but we've always needed a larger library of similar stand-outs for this handheld device, but thanks to this current generation of consoles, the whole concern has been muddled. Now every single time a decent title is announced, people are expressing woeful poetry about how the title should be on the PS3. I stand firmly against this kind of thinking.
As a person who visited this blog for PSP news, I am all for more titles along the lines of Parasite Eve, Final Fantasy and Valkriya Chronicles on the PSP. These type of titles are good for the PSP, and I welcome more of along these lines as opposed to the majority of half-hearted efforts we've seen sine this console's inception.
When I'm starting to run short of umph and quality on the PS3, and if I can't deal with it on my own, I'll know where to moan: www.joystiq.com/ps3/. For now, that behemoth's doin' great! The PSP, on the other hand, could use more titles such as the one mentioned above.
