"Sadly, Enslaved is kept from its full potential by distracting (though not deal-breaking) technical shortcomings. The frame rate will often slow to a chug, and there's a persistent, annoying graphical stuttering (for lack of a better term) that often kills the fluidity of the action."

Hmmmm.....

"This review is based on the Xbox 360 retail version of Enslaved: Odyssey to the West "

Ah, ok.

Wow, trolling much ignorant fanboy? Or are you just conveniently aware that, like 90% of multiplats, the 360 version of Enslaved has already been proven to run smoother with V-sync employed constantly, better Depth of Field, and AA when compared to the PS3 version. Digital Foundry and other sites like Lensoftruth (although DF is the far more accurate and in-depth of the two) have already made the case for the game. Just saying, I have PS3 and 360 (danielknott PSN ID and Knottian GT) so I always do my research on multiplats before I buy. Nice try, but troll elsewhere where you might be able to slide by with your ignorance.

Oh and here's another nail in your argument's proverbial coffin taken directly from IGN's review of the game.

"There's also some major framerate issues throughout the game, particularly on the PS3. These range from distracting to debilitating from a gameplay perspective, but luckily, they're uncommon."

Just remember this next time, good sir.

As long as the 360 version is better than the PS3 version, you should ignore the technical shortcomings of the 360 version.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze ... you're not making any sense. I've got both consoles and well, if it's clear the 360 has the superior version, I'll get that one. Gotta agree with Outsider too, for some reason it's like that most of the time; the 360 getting the better version. Love my PS3 for its great exclusives tho.

Actually Ezio, I own stock in Apple, and it's paying since they just surpassed Microsoft to become the global-leading tech company. And I'm almost pretty sure that I told you that I owned both systems and even gave my respective online IDs for said systems.... oh wait, yeah I did. As with the others who downvoted you, you aren't making any sense when I even gave a site to prove my point about the comparisons, and one that Joystiq refers to constantly for tech analysis (that being Digital Foundry of Eurogamer). i'm simply stating which version is better via actual data analysis so that us "gamers" who do own multiple consoles can make the more informed purchase; jumping on a comment from a misaligned perspective doesn't do well for your accusation of "bias".

If you think about it, Ninja Theory doesn't really make franchise type games. Franchise games are hyped out the wazoo and relatively familiar. NT seems like a group of people who would rather have a whole bunch of completely different, and great, games than a long running franchise. Plus, I don't think they were planning on a franchise for Enslaved, it's based off a book that has no sequel.

I don't think Ninja Theory was going for a franchise with this title. But, if they do plan on continuing to make high production value games, they may need to get one.

While it looks like a great game there are just so many others I am purchasing this month alone, DJ Hero 2, 3 move titles, the fight, the shoot, and Time crisis, Medal of honor is a rent, lets face it, it will be hot until Nov. 9th and then you know what will happen, passing on RB3 til Dec. because Black ops and Assassin's creed B will have my money in Nov. this is a very very busy fall line up.

my only question is, does it play like the demo cause if it does it will probably keep me from enjoying the story unless im watching someone else play it. The clunky feeling you get when you press a to jump and you get some serious lag between the time you press the button and the time he jumps, not only that but based on the demo i have no interest in helping out trip, really who goes out of there way to pull a d*** move on someone by putting a slaver headband on the one person who might help you out. Me i wouldn't help her, i would go out of my way to avoid helping someone who manipulates me instead of asking me

Yeah, it's weird but the level of hatred I had for Trip at the end of the demo was actually quite astounding. I actually walked away and wondered for hours what I'd do in a situation like that as Monkey. All I kept coming up with was kill the **** at the first available opportunity, even it if killed me.

Still, any game that can do that to me, I'll buy it. Can't wait to give it a shot even if I end up hating Trip as much as I did at the start.

It's a demo, are you two real being that damn ignorant that you are basing your purchase of a game that is heavily story driven off the demo? A demo is a demo, they are made from tech that is probably 2 months old which means they are never perfect.

And again. How do you justify bitching about such a small portion of the story? That's just ridiculous. "Oh my god, I hated Trip in the demo, I'm not going to buy this game now because the out of context story section from the demo makes me not want to." If you think that way, please slap yourself and immediately go pre-order this game to make up for that ludicrous train of thought..

Aren't demos there to help sell the game? If someone thought the story was dumb or the controls were poor or whatever else, then the demo is a bad one for them and the game probably won't suit them. Seems fair enough to me.

I was gonna say my understanding is the reason behind most demo's is to give people a taste of what the game is like, some demos are the full version of the game locked down with a time code that makes it so after say 20-30 minutes it automatically kicks you out and doesn't allow you to play anymore, others are still works in progress and usually state that before you start playing. recent demo that comes to mind that was the full product with time lock "crackdown 2" had 30 minutes to play the demo and if you played it your info was ported straight to the game. that's a demo that was rather deceiving sorry i purchased that game day 1.

@oJMan240o
Really? you do realize the demo is the first part of the game, story is not taken out of context because that's how the game starts, therefore having a beginning to a story where you introduce two characters and 1 of them is completely unlikable makes me not want to deal with that character. The fact of the matter is demo's are usually in place to allow people a way to test out the product before purchasing it, that's why most places have demo set-ups for tv, game consoles, blu-ray/dvd players when you go into purchase so you can get an idea. I'm sorry but why should i go pre-order a game that i've had doubts about since it was announced day 1 and the demo has done nothing to alleviate my concerns, sounds like something gamestop would say to someone when they pre-ordered duke nukem forever "don't worry it will come out soon." Now if a single reviewer where to add in to the review how unlike the demo the game is i might be more willing to go purchase it day 1 but as it stands im gonna wait till i've either seen it played or it's 20 bucks

I'm passing as well, because of the demo - because I like good gameplay and the gameplay on the demo was brain dead. Just mash X, I felt like I was playing Killer 7.

For some people, a great story, beautiful world just aren't enough to overcome a title that is boring to PLAY.

yeah demos can sometimes give you the idea you really need on whether or not it's worth buying, usually if it says at the start of a demo "this is a work in progress" i will give the full retail a try if the demo had some minor glitches. now if a demo has some major problems that keep it from being a fun game like gameplay issues so close to release then i'll wait for the bargain bin or see if someone i know has the game.

Really? Hate women much or are you gay? Seriously, take it down 2 notches will you. Come on, it's just a plot device to get him to help her. Would he do it otherwise? No. Nor would anyone. I think you're more "butt-hurt" about the fact that she's controlling him, and of course, because you've never had a girlfriend yourself, don't really get it or understand how compromise works.

Should she have asked him, of course. Did she ask him, no. That is what we called a unique story device. So, seriously get over it, or simple move on to a different game. Because you sound stupid.

When it comes to these big budget games, I tend to judge them almost immediately when it is announced. The game has maybe a minute of my time to impress me or I'll glance over the game as a "been there, done that" title and look at more niche/indie titles I know I will enjoy more (not trying to be snobby here, just saying that my tastes tend to sway from the norm). And for the past few years, this system has pretty much worked for me.

But I think this game may be one of those rare occasions of me being too critical initially. I have not read nearly anything about it since it's first announcement/footage, but now the game has shaped up to be quite the intriguing and original title.

I will definitely look into this one.

If you stray away from the norm then you should be playing games by Ninja Theory. They don't develop games with generic storylines. They don't, necessarily innovate in combat, but the stories are great.

You do realize that you are asking for multiplayer in a brawler that would pigeonhole you into a single game mechanic the entire time, thus destroying the balance of the game by removing any change of pace.

@Chrisius I think the point is to not make simply traversing the game world frustrating. You still have the combat and the puzzles as challenges. The developers basically make sure that as part of immersing yourself into the characters you don't see them do something as silly as missing a ledge when clearly they're too skilled for that.

@Chrisius P.S. I actually think that typical platforming (i.e. aiming accurately at a ledge and timing your jump) should be dead as a game mechanic, along side of "lives" and "check-point-only save systems". Environmental puzzles are great but watching Nathan Drake fall to his death because I apparently aimed couple of pixels to the left of where I was suppose to is not my idea of fun gameplay.

Hmm... not sure about those points. I see what you're saying, but I prefer a little more challenge in my games, a little risk-reward here and there. But each to there own, and your point is valid that games are tending to get easier, more forgiving over time. Has been like that for a while mind you.

Timed platforming deserves the death it got. Nothing like trying to make the same jump over and over and over to kill the mood. Games like Uncharted got it right - it's basically automatic unless you really mess it up (you can jump to your death, but you need to try to... using visual prompts (he reaches out) it always lets you know if a jump is valid.
