Seriously, is it possible that capcom is the ONLY ONE that can´t see that lost planet is garbage???? at least they didn´t blame the p.c. only for their bad sales........... Why they didn´t used those resources in something better like darkstalkers is beyond my knowledge.......

@(Unverified) I wouldn't go as far as to say it was "garbage" but it was very mediocre when I rented it. It was perfectly playable but it felt more like a game from 2001 than 2010.

@(Unverified) I thought Lost Planet 2 was an amazing game. There was tons of customization, the detailed character animations looked great, the campaign was fun with huge bosses, the whole game felt like a TPS version of Monster Hunter.

People just call it garbage because it wasn't just like all the other shooters out here in America and because reviewers gave it a low score.

People need to learn to appreciate original games.
People also need to learn to stop counting their personal opinions as facts.

YOU not liking a game =/= game being garbage

@ToastyToasy Funny how nobody ever says "you shouldn't count your personal opinion is a fact" when someone say a game is fantastic.

Actually, I think most people gave it harsh reviews because they were anticipating decent companion AI when no players were available for co-op play; the companion AI wasn't good and the game ultimately suffered for it. I don't think that's an unreasonable criticism, either. If you are unable to play a co-op game with your friends and must rely on companion AI in order to complete your objectives, the AI needs to be good; if it isn't, the game quickly shifts from being a fun and challenging experience to a controller-hurling chore.

@ToastyToasy "Different" does not mean good.

I'm questioning how Lost Planet 2 was insanely different from every other game on the market, which according to you are all the same game. Y'know because Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Civilization 5 and Red Dead Redemption are all EXACTLY THE SAME whilst avatar-meets-monster-hunter is SO INCREDIBLY DIFFERENT.

@jackal Damn Joystiq... I had a response typed out but it didn't post right, so I guess I have to type it again. xD

Anyways, I won't lie, the AI was indeed pretty stupid, (though I've seen worse,) but it didn't by any means make the game unplayable. I beat it from start-to-finish without even using the AI partners. It just makes the game a bit more difficult, which I believe shouldn't be counted as a bad thing.
The only time I think difficulty should be considered "bad" is if it is truly game breaking, such as rubber band AI or game-breaking glitches. Other than that, difficulty is too subjective, and that goes for most of the complaints I heard.

All the bad points I read in reviews were simply too subjective. "Clunky/flawed controls", "too difficult", "bad story"... These are all things people can dislike, but that doesn't mean everyone will, and it doesn't mean they are automatically bad. I found the controls and game physics to be just fine, and not clunky at all, I personally love high difficulty, and enjoyed the story much more than other shooter games.

Reviewers too often let personal opinion get in the way of reviewing something, and that in turn causes the people out there who judge games based on what reviewers think to hop on the bandwagon of calling it a bad game, yet never stop to realize that reviewers are just like everybody else. They're just gamers. And just because they throw a score at the end of their thoughts on a game doesn't make their opinions matter any more than yours or mine.
When I was growing up, gaming was about having fun, not judging games and arguing over what's good and what isn't. Gamers respected each others' opinions and didn't bicker online about them.

Sorry about the wall of text, and sorry about that last paragraph getting a bit too ranty, but this generation of gamers just really gets under my skin sometimes. (And I hope Joystiq doesn't cut off this comment as well.)

@ToastyToasy

I think that at the end the weight of the opinion goes with how much peole likes it or not, otherwise there´ll be no democracy, yes somebody could like the game, yes somebody wanted hillary clinton as the president. But at the end the majority is what gives shape to the final opinion, maybe we´ll like it or not, but that´s how things are, and to be honest i have noticed that when a lot of people dislikes something usually it´s for a reason, and is not like everybody just followed blindly what people said. With this game it was the AI the main problem, you can´t have a bad AI with a game that needs it, that´s like saying you have a bad control system on street fighter, and I don´t think the opinion had something to do with the game not being a typical american shooter, i have played all kind of games from japan or america and found a lot of them awesome and some others garbage, the problem here is that every time that capcom tries to create something "new" ( dark void, lost planet, bionic commando) they just can get it right, it´s like if they rush the product at the end and what was a good idea ends being.....well, garbage..... it´s hard to say it but you can´t really hide behind the capcom logo hoping that your game is going to sell just for this.

@(Unverified) Again, the only legit complaint you gave in that reply is the AI, and like I said the game DOESN'T need it.
Calling the game bad because of the AI being stupid is no different than saying it's bad because it's hard.

Again, it's not garbage. Simple as that. You can call it garbage all you want but just because you don't like it does not make it bad. You don't like Lost Planet 2, but that doesn't mean you have to go into a news post that has a connection to it and call it garbage just because you don't like it.

@ToastyToasy

ok, so your original description is any better??

"I thought Lost Planet 2 was an amazing game. There was tons of customization, the detailed character animations looked great, the campaign was fun with huge bosses, "

great campaign, huge bosses, detailed animations, looks great.....yeah right now that´s a way to describe a game, i could delete lost planet 2 and add dragons age origins and nobody would notice. And if it´s not garbage then explain to me one thing: why it tanked???? because evil people gave bad reviews???? only that?? well, i have seen many average reviews for many games, for example mafia II had some of the most variable reviews i have seen in a long time, from too good to too bad, but it was a hit. So it´s easy to blame evil reviewers or people who gives opinions on internet, but if the game was bad that man, that can´t be changed by an opinion, and lost planet is bad we all know that and you know what gives me the authority to say so?? the fact that i played it before even considering buying it from steam, thanks good i did that.........

You can continue to say whatever you want while I have fun enjoying games I like. Unlike newer generation gamers, I don't need other people to tell me what I like and don't like.

You just need to tell the "newer generation gamers" why you like games? Do you like talking to a wall, or are you not trying to sway opinions?

Also, getting stuck in animations has never been cool, regardless of how pretty they are.

Good thing you enjoyed lost planet, too bad you didn´t bought one million copies of the game so capcom could call it a succes. oh well maybe you still can, just check at the low price basket at wall-mart, at 2 cents probably y can still buy the million copies. :D

@MICHAEL ATKINSON I didn't find the boss fights very hard, just tedious thanks to the amount of respawning you wind up doing. And some fights you can map-glitch to make it easier.

My brother and I rented this game from Family Video looking for a good coop. We were back 20 minutes later demanding a replacement, because it was the worst game either of us had ever played. Thankfully, they let us rent Army of Two 2.

Capcom's sales prediction for LP2 was ridiculous. I forgot what the number they expected was, but it was extremely high. like 3+ million copies.

It's like they didn't have a single person out in the real world who was actually gauging public interest in the game, and instead just made a wild guess.

Anyway, I look forward to renting this game and completing it, as it seems that hardcore gamers seem to like this game quite a bit. Tycho of Penny Arcade said it was pretty good too.

The first game was a bit of a surprise hit, but that was mostly due to the time in which it was released. The competition wasn't half so stiff back then.

This game was a third person shooter though. And it wasn't half bad. However the only upgrade I wanted from 1 was the ability to use the grappling hook while jumping. The mechs and being able to combine them Vultron style was awesome. The boss battles were incredible too. It did however suffer from the same plague affecting Halo Reach and Gear of War 2 and that being if you don't like what the "competitive" gamer likes you won't get to play the multiplayer you want and was intended for the game.

@squallgengar In the "Lost Planet" games, you navigate 3D world, aim with a reticule, glean info from a HUD, and you shoot. There used to be an old expression about ducks that I find apropos but suffice to say, looking from behind the shoulder instead of through the head does not a new genre make.

@bioadam Umm. Yes it does.
You don't walk around in real life seeing everything from five feet behind yourself, do you? No, you see everything through your eyes. That is first person.

Seeing your character run around and do stuff instead of viewing things from their eyes is third person.

Capcom had me by the nuts during the Cube lifespan, with all that fancy schmancy RE lovin'. REmake, Zero, 4 and reissuing 2,3 and Code Veronica.

They've not put out anything I'm into since RE4. and the Wii Edition.

Cappy, get working on RE2 remake and we'll resume talks and payment transactions.

shocked that this game did so bad and that everyone hates it. My brother and i picked up 2 copies and played online and it was awesome. I guess it must suck playing it alone, but playing with someone else was a lot of fun.

It will be a long time now before a 3rd one comes out. the new trend with capcom, they will probably sell the project to another company and allow then to work on it and redo the whole concept.
