cool review, didnt really mention a lot about what makes this game so better than 2k10 (enhanced playbook, plethora of new animations etc) but for people either buying their first Bball title or going back to 2k after Elite's flop, this is probably the best bball game ever made.

4.5 stars = 9/10

If u were gonna work it out like that, it goes..
1 = 1
1.5 = 2
2 = 3
etc

Pretty sure that ELITE is dead. I was only gonna pick up the game originally because of NBA JAM but that little union has since dissolved. EA would benefit from a full 2 year cycle, and maybe then it could be called LIVE since hopefully, by then, they would have put in enough work to warrant the name that used to shine.

How does the online play work this year? Does the 5v5 mode actually work? Can we play 2v2 online (and if there are only 2 of us, can we just do matchmaking to have the game find us 2 opponents to play against)?

These are the things I must know before dropping the cash on it.

@Vcize

I'm seconding this request, David. 2K10 was destroyed by a pathetic online implementation, and it's important to know whether this was really fixed before we drop cash on this.

Also, for anyone who has download the PS3 demo, does it allow you to try the 3D functionality?

@Vcize There is NO question, 2K10 was riddled with glitches and broken ONLINE features out the box.

1. Frame rates PLUMMETED during the continuous half time light show, which took them almost 3 or more months to address.

2. Online features like My Player broken beyond belief...

Online still has its problems, there's still a bit of lag and you cant see online records or save your online playbook (something that the devs say theyre looking into) but until it comes out tomorrow and everyone jumps online i dont think we'll know how their new servers and online code hold up yet.

My friend wants me to get this on the PS3 so he has someone to play with online. I tell him over and over again I have not played/loved a basketball game since the NBA Jam/NBA Live '95 ere. I tried to play the 2k ones on the Dreamcast (damn you, free throw!), but I was horrendous at that.

Reading Hinkle's review, even though I will get my ass handed to me, seems like the basketball game to get. Thanks!

I'm convinced that someone from EA got a hold of an alpha copy of 2K11, went back to work on Elite and just gave up realizing that they'd never even come close to 2K11's polish unless they started from scratch.

And I can only imagine how pissed off ESPN must be right now for backing a franchise that will probably never match the quality of 2K11 for at least another 2 to 3 years and they'll have to redo EVERYTHING just to get close to this game. Meanwhile 2K Games would have surpassed even themselves by the time EA catches up.

Should be called NBA Delete 11 (I stole that line but it's too awesome not to be repeated).

Still don't like the controls and how the players move in wonky fashion when you're trying to control them. They need to utilize the control scheme that Elite 11 used. Because of that control scheme, it made the game fun for me although it was a highly lacking game, overall, and the players didn't nearly wonk out like 2K11's players do. I didn't really enjoy playing the 2K11 demo anywhere near as much as the Elite 11 demo but I will end up getting a copy of the full game of 2K, eventually. No rush for me. Still same ole, same ole, to me. The game play is tired and needs to be revamped.

what exactly about the gameplay that is tired? and the "wonky" players is most likely due to you than the game. i played the game and it worked fine to me. also look at this video and show me where its wonky: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jk40oh-pNEQ. no hate here im just sayin'

@PedoJokerBear - It's been known to be wonky, control wise, to many people. I goto have friends who play the game year after year just like I do not to mention many people on sports video gaming sites have said the same. I'm not just pulling it out of my ass, if that's what u think. Over the years, many of us have just gotten used to it and dealt with it because Live was so weak for a long time.
As for the tired gameplay, it comes from that iso-motion. As a b-ball player myself, I just don't feel connected like I do with the right analog dribbling. Live 10 did a great job with that and Elite 11 expanded on it with 1:1 control. That's what got me excited and I just wish 2K would adopt that to go with everything else they actually got right, in spades.

i played the elite demo and the controls were ok but it was nothing groundbreaking. 2k's control scheme isnt as hard as people make it out to be. Sure it has a steep learning curve (which i think is what most people bitch about) but once you get the hang of it, which i have, it's as smooth as butter. Also, they got rid of last years isomotion and replaced it with a better system tied to the LT + Left Stick which also combines the with the momentum Right Stick shot, which can have you playing like the video i posted above. Also i know 2k is a bit wonky but not to the point that youre making it out to be.

I feel you should buy the game if you want to, I see some statements that seem swayed "because of the review." For quite some time there have been Sports Sims* which dwindled down to the EA vs 2K regarding the NBA.

Disregarding my rant, its ur money and if for some odd reason an adult* takes sudden interest in an NBA game, for Jordan or whatever, lol So be it...Get your ass handed to you online or by CPU = Early trade in, BUT you have already doled out your money. Hinkle did warn you in his review, kudos to that.

Wow, I can't believe how many people are hating on Elite. The delayed it, and yes it is possible it doesn't come out. How do you know it is terrible? I played the demo, I saw the Bynum/Jesus glytch, but I really like the player movement and true-skill shot mechanic in the Elite demo. That doesn't mean the game is great or bad. I'm just saying.

I'm also just saying: **Is this game worth it if you've played recent 2Ks and you don't care about the Jordan stuff?** I've been a fan of NBA 2K since it started and have grown a little tired of the same ol' thing.

"How do you know it is terrible?"

umm, because of the demo? and the overall reaction to said demo? go to other sites (operationsports, pastapadre etc.) and see how it was getting trashed by even the most devoted fans. Just because you liked it that means youre one of the few people who did.

No, I know that. I've seen it and it's hilarious. Just every post here was made with absolutely 0 contextual value. Even the original post makes no sense in context to the article, he didn't say, "I bet this means that we won't see NBA Elite for another five years after this." He just jumped into something that has absolutely nothing to do with this article. There's also the fact that half of those post are grammatically atrocious and insulting to the English language... that might have something to do with it.

Also, the other point is it's spelled Joystiq not Joystick. Joystick are ancient and outdated video controllers most widely associated with the Atari consoles.

I have to say..those who are speaking of NBA Elite with such high standards are simply those who want more of a arcade experience and not a sim...I played the Elite 11 demo and was not impressed. It reminded me of the freestyle stick just reconfigured to shoot. Some of the moves the mapped to the right analog was rather pointless as well..The controls can't hold a candle to 2k..

2k doesn't play wonky at all. With practice the controls actually make the game smooth. No game is going to be without glitches here and there..I was a Live player for years until I got fed up with the lack of realism..2k delivers that..
