Looks awesome, but there are just too many good games coming out to justify buying this.

Oh, the cruel iciness of the downvote...

Believe me, I definitely WANT to get it, but I'm not made of money. What with AC: Brotherhood, NFS: Hot Pursuit, the Borderlands GOTY edition, the list goes on and on. RobS the 3rd said it best, I'm just one man, damn it!

@Burnflare What games? It seems most of the good ones have been delayed until next year. All i can think of is Gran Turismo 5, and Rock Band 3.

Not a fan of the God of War-combat (literally stopped me from finishing that series) in this game but the rest sounds stellar. And damn, the settings look so cool.

Probably will buy

Is it OK to pretend the whole review was being read by Patrick Stewart?

In my world, EVERY review is read by Patrick Stewart. Except the ones read by Morgan Freeman.

Pfft. Why pretend that Patrick Stewart is reading it when you could be hearing the soft brogue of Sean Connery?

@Lukeyo It's perfectly fine to think of Patrick Stewart. I like to think of Keith David reading the review myself. Nothing like the voice of the Arbitor to set the mood!

finally, i reveiwer with his (or her) head on straight.. this game is steller..

this game is surpassing my expectations.. just keep getting constant upgrades and new things to try, its really keeping a strong pace for such a long campaign.. theres a lot of questions and mysterys opening up, and im looking forward to them getting awnsered.. im not a big fan of titan fights, but theres still great boss fights after so i cant complain.. i have no idea how anyone gave this lower then 8, right now its shaping up to 8.5 to 9 for myself.. the wall scaling and beast riding is very smooth (i have no idea what GT was talking about, while the player was walking into walls on a beast)..

once i finish it (with a platinum, for sure), ill know if its a GOTY nominee..

for anyone on the fence for this game and you enjoy 3rd person action adventure, its a must buy

@ennzo Good to read this. I'm a big fan of hack 'n slash and 3rd person action games. I'm picking up U2GOTY next week (I'm a slacker, I know - I got Uncharted 1 back when it was released and it remains as one of my favorite PS3 games to date but still havent played U2), but after that, it's God of Vania time!

After the demo, I wasn't sure what to think. The combat seemed okay, but there wasn't any platforming to do. This review has convinced me, and now I'm definitely getting this game.

The demo is a horrible presentation of the actual game. It's amazing just how many moves and abilities you get. Seems like every level just more stuff gets piled on and the game gets deeper and deeper. Few hours into the game and the battles are far more complex (and challenging, but not in a bad way) then similar games.

Like I said on Facebook... The only people I don't see liking this game are the SoTN die hards that believe that game is the Castlevania game to base all others on. No, this is NOT a MetroidVania... so if you're expecting that you'll probably be disappointed. This is a return to the Castlevania's that I myself grew up with and I'm happy about that. Bravo Konami, I'm excited to see where they take the series from here.

I will say that finding green gems can be a pain as I can go an entire level and not find any only to see there are at least 4 somewhere per level. You WILL need them as this game isn't very forgiving.

@Pure Black World Tendency

I'm buying it for $20 off since Kmart has a recurring gamer coupon trap where you purchase games from them and basically get your next game for usually $10-$20 off.

@QuePasa87 That's a good deal but there are no K marts in my country. I sometimes use the trade 2 used games for a pre-order deals they have at Gamestop but there was no such deal for Castlevania.

And a new game here is gonna cost me about $100 so I'd rather wait a few months... :-/

Only 16 hours? I suppose that's a good chunk compared to other action adventure games, but I was thinking it'd be more around the 20 to 25 mark. Huh.

@8bitartist Ah, I never go for 1000 in games*. I will probably do challenges and other back tracking stuff in the game though, so that should definitely increase the play time.

*Especially when it's lame achievements like collecting crap. Which, looking through the cheevos for Castlevania, is what a lot of them are. Enslaved is the same deal and that makes me a bit sad. :(

collecting random shit that doesnt benefit your progress (like the treasures in uncharted 2) is tedious. all the collectibles in this game either give you weapon upgrades, more health, more light magic or more shadow magic. plus there is only a few per level and most are easier to find than not.

I couldn't get into god of war, so no matter how much of a fan I am of Castlevania I will not get this...for two reasons, one is the abandonment of the plot from the original games, plus the one I stated in the first place. I really am a huge fan of the series but eh....

Two popular review sites giving this game a 7.5 are all wet. They both lamented the fact that it didn't feel like the old Castlevania games, or didn't pay enough homage to them. But I don't know how many times it's been beat to death by the developer that this is a new direction and not part of the Castlevania timeline or canon. This game is epic, it's a solid 9--most reviews concur. Indubitably.
