One of the currently worst developers/publishers wants to be the top publisher for a product that stands for everything wrong with video games at the moment. Lovely. If only they could somehow ruin each other so we maybe, just maybe, could go back to actual games with controls that work and no DRM of any kind. But fat chance of that happening.

Back to Pong? Because Nintendo originally had hardware DRM and Atari's joysticks broke pretty easily.

Oh wait, you're talking about PC games. With code wheels and driver issues and upgrades to new video cards every 12 months.

Me? I play board games.

@tensider He's quite obviously talking about a time when you could buy a game, take it home and do what ever the hell you wanted with it and sell it to someone else who could do the same. Or the time where you could buy a game put it in your system and just have it effing WORK from day one without needing a 300 mb patch every month.

Not if this becomes the "holiday" item this year. I may just buy one just in case it does sell out everywhere. So I can put it on ebay for twice the price...

I think I am getting a kinect, mostly to play games with my wife on. Doubt that they will be sold out everywhere. Then again I though the DS was gonna be a failure, so Ill just stop predicting and watch the free enterprise in action.

After reading destructoid's hands on it, the kinect controls sound like utter &^%&.

You'll most likely be better off using a standard controller or PS Move if you have it.

Of course it's going to sell out. They've learned from Nintendo. Make about 1000 a week and keep up the false sense of demand.
$150 is too much for this POS. Ubisoft is one of the worst offenders for shovelware on the Wii, so their wants and needs are worth jack and shit.

This.

As far as controller-free gaming goes on this tech, I think its limits will be hit pretty quickly. But controller gaming with some kinect integrated? That's got a ton of potential.

I know that pretty much everyone on here loves Move and hates Kinect but I'm actually much more interested in Kinect. It's something new and different and if they pull this off, it could be a lot of fun. I'm not going to sit here having never tried it and bash it. I'm waiting until people actually have this in their homes and real reviews of the tech and games are available. It doesn't seem like many people want to even give this a shot and I'm wondering why? Yes, Move works great, but so far, it's not doing anything the Wii can't do besides HD graphics. The real question here is, why does it seem like people actually want this to fail? I hope it works perfectly. Wouldn't that be better?

@Uncle Jesse

From what I understand it's mostly the lack of core/mature/AAA titles currently associated with Kinect, and the somewhat noticeable input lag seen thus far. I'm sure both of these concerns will be assuaged soon, but until then I think most people just want a something they can bitch about.

As for the Move, it does HD, even more accurate tracking (compared to Motion+), and full 3D space tracking (front/back in addition to left/right/up/down). I believe the Wii can be pretty accurate, and do 3D tracking, but not to the same level as the Move. (Though I'm probably just stating the obvious here.)

I'm sure the Move works great. I'm just generalizing here I suppose, but it's very, very similar to the Wii. I'm sure in the future that the gap will widen between the two, but I feel that MS is trying to do something new (and risky) with Kinect and they're continuously hated on for attempting it. People want it to fail for some reason. I'm just not sure why is all.

Jesse, trust me. Microsoft has a reputation with the public for either being money grabbers, or so out of touch with technology it makes your father look like Joshua Topolsky.

I see Kinect as a very risky move by Microsoft. They could have gone with a much safer technology, and just tried to perfect it (as with the Move) and made a lot of money from it.

As far as the games go Microsoft's offerings have been very poor, they should stick to working on the tech or the UI for Kinect based experiences. CoE is great and you all know how I feel about Dance Central: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3DD8pLZcYc (on the left).

I get where people are coming from with Microsoft being money grabbers, and I don't agree with their Kinect event, what with wasting money on the Cirque and whatnot, but honestly I agree with you. I actually want to see this do well. I was dragged into a gamestop the other day and I tried out the Move on their kiosk and I was kind of disappointed. It just didn't feel as spot-on as promised, and yes it was properly calibrated. Don't get me wrong, it worked great, but as stated before it really...just felt like a touched up Wii :/ As for the Kinect, it's something that I've certainly never tried before and even though I'm a constant victim of day-one purchases ( I'm looking at you, Psp-go), I think I'll still pick this up if I can day one. If anything it'll be a cool thing to play with the girlfriend.

Ubisoft is probably the most successful 3rd party on Wii so if Microsoft could choose a great partner for Kinect this is probably the company you would want. Ubisoft has a ton of successful Wii & DS franchises that would work very well with Kinect. (Shaun White, Just Dance, Petz, Rabbids, My Coach, Gold's Gym, etc.)

3rd party support on Kinect seems to be good, so I don't think Ubisoft will have an advantage for very long. Outside of Activision and Take2 (who has said it is working on games), every major publisher seems to have announced 1 or 2 games for Kinect already.

I think Kinect is going to provide some pretty innovative experiences as developers get more familiar with the system. It's funny how so many video game journalists (and of course fans of other systems) keep trying to compare the Kinect to the Wii. Sony's Move is so much closer to the Wii experience that that is the reason I'm not really that interested in it. I don't even see how people who haven't played with Kinect yet (or even those who have) are bashing it. I'll be getting one for damn sure and me and my family will hopefully enjoy it, even if we look completely stupid jumping and flailing around in the privacy of our own home. All you jaded gamers need to loosen up so all of us can actually have new gaming experiences. The more y'all bitch and complain about new stuff and keep buying the same crap over and over and over, the more incentive for developers to keep feeding all of us crap until nobody wants to play anymore.

Anti-fanboy disclaimer: Been playing games damn near since they came out, own every system I could get my hands on (including 360, PS3, Wii, Dreamcast, Jaguar, Intellivisions, etc.), have fake steering wheels, plastic instruments, Robbie the Robot ;-) ,love gaming in general, hate complainers...you get the point...

I still have my atari and Sega Genesis consoles around here somewhere...

And I totally agree with your sentiment regarding trying nnew and different games/platforms/technology. We own the Wii, ps2, ps3, xbox, etc, etc., and I say Kudos to Ubisoft for taking the risk. Definitely not of the "Fan Boy" class. I Just love gaming. I've already pre-ordered our kinects (getting two - one for the "Man Cave" and one for the family room.

Kudos to Microsoft for getting behind a technology that innovates and explores the future of gaming interaction, and to Ubisoft for recognizing the potential of this tech and making a serious investment in it.

This family of gamers will make that same investment at launch. If the Kinect doesn't pan out ultimately, so be it. Exploring the future, if only for a glimpse, will be worth it.

Early innovations like the Power Pad, the Power Glove, and the U-Force all promised a future where gamers could truly "be" in the game.

We're almost there folks...

Nope, we apparently share the same age space! Yeah I remember all that stuff and believe it or not, I'm still trying to get hold of a Vektrex... Loved King's Quest and I hear that a new version of Battle Chess is coming out.

@Signifyingmnky

Absolutely! I hope these companies keep trying new stuff to keep games interesting. I tend to be an early adopter so it actually makes me feel like I have at least a little bit of a stake in the success of new and innovative products and to some extent the direction of the gaming industry. But if the jaded masses continue to talk louder than everybody else, we are going to get "Koticked" over and over again. :-)
