Battle.net chief: next StarCraft is 18 months away
35
Blizzard's Battle.net project director, Greg Canessa, was quoted at GDC Online suggesting an early 2012 release window for sequel-spansion StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm. GameSpot caught the quote during a panel, in which Canessa responded to future Battle.net upgrades by saying they are "a main area of focus we're going to be seeing on the Starcraft side over the next 18 months between now and Heart of the Swarm." However, a Blizzard representative told Joystiq "We have not announced a release date or window for Heart of the Swarm."
Blizzard's next release will be for the World of Warcraft (population 12 million) expansion Cataclysm on December 7. With that bit of news out there, hopefully BlizzCon's big reveal will end the hellish wait for a Diablo 3 release date.

Well isn't this great! "Awesome" is trademarked now, isn't it? Might as well trademark the color of my eyebrows!

Trademarked. Your eyebrows that is. Everytime you move them, you owe $20 in royalties. Good luck.

Blizzard is the innovation center of the industry.
Releasing a single game for $150 over 3 years. This is a paradigm shift.

You know, Starcraft 2 certainly felt like a full game to me. I don't get why people are still thinking with this logic.
It's not like the expansions are going to be lackluster if they're dedicating this amount of time to it. I mean, it's Blizzard, for God's sake. If they can make a supposed 3rd of a game feel like a full game, then I'll be surprised what they could do with the "2nd half".

They're going to use the long time between games as an excuse to claim it isn't an expansion pack and charge full price.
They're not as clever as they think.

Even DNF and other games will come out before Diablo 3.

Blizzard already said this around the time they announced that they were going to do two expansions.
The expansions will be spaced 18 months between each other.

That sounds reasonable, especially for Blizzard. Can't say I'm looking forward to the Zerg campaign but, hey, next in line - Brotoss!

So Blizzard basically has 18 months to fix the horrid custom maps system in order to earn another purchase from me.
God speed.

18 months? So...um...anyone care to guess how long it will be until we see a GotY version?

who cares?
the single-player campaign in WoL was a joke and, since you already get all three races in multi-player, who needs the next two sequels.
their whole excuse behind selling us this game in thirds was to provide us with a "deeper and richer" storyline.
well, that was a flat-out lie. i can't remember the last time i've seen such a patronizingly uninspired storyline with such brain-dead dialogue and utterly forgettable characters.
i'll stick with my copy of WoL and pass on the next two.

to refresh your memory
uhhh, just about anything else that activision ever released, any military shooter, and any command and conquer game.
But as far as that goes, they said that the target was to have cataclysm out 14 months after LK was released, so I wouldn't hold my breath about this being released in 18 months.
But in all honesty, I've never really played a game for a "Deep and rich" storyline, as the medium doesn't really lend itself to good story telling, and I'll bet that you'll eat your words once you figure out that there is going to be a few new units in HoS that dramatically change the way the game is played.
