Thank god they're fixing reaper rushes. It is completely ridiculous; first player begins building and second player just feeds resources. 2 minutes into the game and your base is swarmed with 4-6 reapers before you get your first unit barracks/warp gate/spawning pool.

I may actually start playing online again if they continue with this trend of balance adjustments.

@(Unverified)

That is literally impossible.

1) You can't trade resources until 5 minutes in.
2) Barracks takes 60 seconds to build, tech lab takes 25 seconds to attach, the first reaper takes 40 seconds to build, even assuming it's possible to build everything the exact second the game starts (which, you can't since you need to mine at least 100 more minerals) and units can teleport to their destination, that still puts the Terran player 5 seconds behind your estimate.

Now, I understand exaggeration for comedic effect, but come on! Get a roach or three!

Note that it says "At certain levels of play." I would presume that Blizzard means the level of people who know what the heck they're doing.

I guess all the Zerg rushers claiming the Zerg have been nerfed may have accidently stumbled onto the truth...

I have to say some of these things are really stupid, its like blizzard doesn't realize how deadly Zerg can be when they rush?

Blizzard: Terran is getting raped by Protoss. We are going to nerf Terran.

4srs. You noticed that too, eh?

I'm a random player... platinum ranked, so I'm not really too biased... but seriously, this Terran hate is absurd. Everyone keeps saying that they're getting steamrolled by Terran, yet here is statistics literally proving that point 100% wrong.

@twocows You aren't interpreting the numbers properly, there are other factors beyond terran being underpowered.

Specifically the fact that Terran ARE overpowered, inflates their rank beyond their skill level. So when they rank up, they don't have the necessary skill to compete in balanced competition.

Ladder rank is not an indicator of skill. If one race is harder to play, logic would tell you it takes more skill to reach a higher rank. This is imbalance that also needs to be addressed.

As Tester pointed out (top level Korean pro who plays Protoss), it can be extremely difficult in the early-mid-game stages for Protoss, who won't have a lot of units to handle Terran bio and because of how expensive it is to tech to Colossus or High Templar on gas, which is fixed by expanding but that has a ton of risk because of early bio pushes, especially ones including Ravens.

However, in later game stages (if it gets there), Protoss has a devastating army and their tech is in full swing, so you get storms and Colossus bashing down on everything, which can be very tough to handle. In fact, in any non-mirror matchup, Protoss late game is extremely scary.

Terran is strong early on because of cost and unit power per cost, where Protoss is so expensive and can't have a lot of units out early. However, I'd say it's probably the most balanced matchup of them all, and supply before Rax doesn't seem like it will change it very much because that was completely standard already. I don't know if Protoss cheese required an earlier Rax or not though. But, the nerf is obviously for TvZ anyway, because Reapers were basically useless against Protoss since you can get a Stalker out in just about every situation before Reapers became an issue, and they wtfpwn Reapers too.

Also, these statistics are context-free, meaning you have to quit assuming things just based off the numbers. Why are all these statistics the way that they are? That's the question you have to consider, and Blizzard themselves even made this point some time ago.

I've found a lot of Terran players just have bad mechanics. They rely too much on timing attacks and cute little things that any player with good macro and some sense can overcome. When it comes down to it they keep their money too high, forget to MULE, and don't have enough/have too many production facilities to work with their money. So when sloppy players play Terran, they tend to get beaten.

However, I don't even see how they're nerfing Terran in the PvT matchup, unless I forgot a nerf because I read about this yesterday.

Wasn't the whole reason they took so long with putting this game out balancing it beforehand?

@Lekko It would have taken longer had they not released it in 3 parts. They actually said that they were pressured into releasing something, otherwise we wouldn't have seen SC2 for at least another two or three years. SC2 won't be complete until well after the third expansion hits, so until then enjoy the ever-changing game that is SC2 multiplayer.

Wow looks pretty comprehensive, may I add doing something about the ravens auto-turrets? Those are free, tough, and last really long.

Yeah, I'd never seen them used much until last night. They had so many ravens and they just shot out so many of those turrets.

I'm now considering using them.

If you actually click on the link there are plenty of statistics you can look at about win percentages and play percentages. I think the main reason this is going into effect is because such a low percentage of people play zerg, not because Terran is OP, which is shown by the statistics.

Haha, I like how the header image is from pre-beta SC2. The Collosi have giant shields and their single-target laser attack.

@Hyperion45 Hyperion! You seem pre-beta savvy—what's that Zerg thing crawling up the side of the Protoss base? Whenever Joystiq uses this pict, I always hope someone knows, in the comments!

I'm about 80% sure that the thing climbing up the wall was actually a critter, or part of the terrain, not an actual playable unit.
I very well could be wrong, I wasn't in the beta, I just think I recall hearing someone say that.

Thanks, HydrophobicFish and MonkeyOnTheRun! I've never seen a critter do that, although it would be terrifying to see if I did (I'm sure I'd auto-react with those Photon Cannons and target it manually, anyway). I was worried about the prospect of a Zerg "Reaper-ish" support unit, something that could scale a cliff and serve as a ladder for units behind it. That could really be surprising, even with just 'lings!

@twocows: the post did state the protoss/terran balance would be tweaked later, that this one just addressed terran rush versus zerg.

Adding structure health for zerg will prob go a long way. And yes, some mid-tech zerg units that are actually effective would make it much more satisfying.
