Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Agito XIII TGS trailers (finally) released
56
It's been a while since we've seen any media from the Fabula Nova Crystallis series' other two-thirds -- actually, scratch that. We saw a trailer for Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Agito XIII during TGS last month. Now, thanks to Square Enix's unswerving kindness, you can watch it too.

@onan I love how kids these days automatically think anything remotely similar to a wasteland = Fallout.

So...is Versus 13 taking place in modern day? How does it connect with FF 13?
Posted: Oct 10th 2010 7:15PM ToastyToasy said
@bones8677 Taken straight from wikipedia:
"Final Fantasy Versus XIII is, according to its developers, a wholly independent story unfolding with different characters and a different visual design. Although it is set within the same Final Fantasy XIII universe, it is unrelated to any other entry within the compilation and is thus neither a sequel nor a prequel to any other entries in Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy XIII."
And yeah, it takes place in a more modern setting, though there will still be monsters and wilderness to explore and such.

If I remember correctly, it was more that they had a common mythos rather than any direct connection.

Man, Versus XIII looks like it's loads better than XIII, I may just beat XIII just to get into the Nova Crystallis story arc.
Glad to see the KH team is actually getting things done on Versus!

Both games look absolutely incredible. And I'm glad Agito is going to have a world map as well.
Honestly, just looking at these trailers alone tells me "these are the Square games I've been waiting for all 7th generation."
Can't wait. :)

Modern setting Final Fantasy are my favorite and I'm so glad they are exploring This too. With a World map to Showcase the Creativity Square Enix really has on a Powerful System(s). Games look amazing, Just wish Agito online co-op it really does look like it could have been SE answer to Monster hunter.

Agito looks really great, but I'm not so sure about Versus yet. Most of that trailer was just a character running through wide areas so I'm holding judgment for now.
Posted: Oct 10th 2010 7:39PM (Unverified) said
So is Vs.13 90% running down abandoned roads and landscapes and 10% fighting behemoths? That's what I gleaned from the trailer.
Hopefully we finally see a release date for these games at this conference next January.

Playing FFXIII right now. I just hope Versus and Agito have NPCs you can interact with.

So, in an odd twist, it looks like XIII might be the crappy spinoff and these two "spinoffs" are actually the real XIII. cant wait. My only gripe is how slow Noctis was attacking in the Versus trailer... compared to KH combat that's snail's pace.

@DjiegoMoz
I suppose it is about the same pace as KH1 at the VERY beginning. but unless you're fighting a Behemoth at the very beginning of versus I'm still gonna be skeptical.
That said, it might benefit from a slower pace, giving you more time to strategize and more ability for combos other than just mashing the X button.

I'm sorry, but after FFXIII Square are going to have to a Lot to win back my trust. Until this game is out I'm not even going to think about getting my hope up about it being any good.
Posted: Oct 10th 2010 9:13PM ToastyToasy said
@Shinchi Meh. FFXIII was disappointing, but I knew even before that one came out that Versus would be better.
I'm still excited for Versus. Square has gotten most things right in their recent games, and it seems these two new FF entries are fixing the things they didn't get right. World Map + airship + KH gameplay is all I need to be excited for these.

Is anyone else highly confused by all these Final Fantasies? I'm so lost but maybe I'm just old. I think I last played the 3rd one and now there on 13 and apparently there are two different 13 games not to mention the mmo?

The genre vets are all gone. Squenix is trying new things to capture a new crowd.
For my part, I don't see the luster in the series anymore. I'm happy when remakes hit portables though. But that's from tried and true formulas.
I'll try XIII someday. Not now though.

I'm kind of burnt out on the science fiction/futuristic settings for Final Fantasy games (VII, VIII, X, XIII). I always enjoyed the Final Fantasy games in the fantasy/medieval locals the best (IV and IX).

@The Joy of Painting w Bob Ross No FF game has had a good future setting since VII. I so miss the cyberpunk nature from before. XIII and later are to polished and pretty.

I've been really hyped for both of them. I sure hope they give us a release date during that January conference.
When was Versus first announced? 2006, was it? Man, Squeenix sure take their time.
I just hope the battle system is as fast-paced as KH's is, or else I'll be disappointed. Can't wait for more details. :)
Also, scorpion from FFVII!

@Lucky48 His name's Noctis, and I can't see any resemblance to Sasuke other than hair shape. :|
At least he won't be as emo as Sasuke... Assuming Nomura was telling the truth when he said Noctis was just "shy" and not "emo".

the preview of versus XIII seemed a bit like FF12, as the character was running through the maps.

I liked the look of Versus quite a bit. However, it felt kind of underwhelming at the same time when compared to the CG trailer we first saw. I think that is mostly because of the way it was presented in this particular trailer, it lacked a lot of the flash I'm accustomed to from Square. Regardless, I'm excited to see how these shape up.

13 left a bad taste in my mouth for traditional FF games... VS looks like it could be really awesome. As long as the combat is better than the PSP game. That game was good... but the combat got old really really fast.

If by bad you mean bad-ass then heck yea!!!
I love the modern day look for Versus XIII, and I like how they have a world map to roam around in Agito, plus the game play just looks fun. I think both games will be great, if not the best final fantasy games made to date! Of course not much is seen yet, so it's too soon to say that =].
