Why is it impossible for DICE to release a game with a respectable quantity of maps? Are they going to have a VIP pass for this game as well that unlocks new "maps" aka the same maps already in the game that is free for people who bought it at retail but $15 for those who got it used?

After the mess that was BF:BC2 and it's complete lack of new maps, I'm finding it very hard to support DICE/EA anymore. And that sucks because BF:BC and BC2 are my two favorite online games of all time.

They release TWO different map packs for BC1 FOR FREE with, what, 2-4 maps in each? And the for 2, we got variations of the same 5 maps that shipped with the game and that was it. What a joke.

This is just a general thought... anyone remeber the gameplay for Ghost Recon Island Thunder or the original Ghost Recon... not this GRAW crap.

Now that was some nice multiplayer. Everything else since, has catered to lowest common denominator.

Uh, no. Actually DICE's own BFBC2 is freaking stellar in terms of multiplayer. It's an amazing balance between tactical and fast paced gameplay.

And MAG is downright cerebral in terms of the amount of teamwork necessary for a good game to get pulled off... it's actually TOO slow/tactical for me personally, TBH.

@superklye I thought BF:BC2 was fantastic. I enjoyed it WAY more than COD (I know it's a sin around here) The vehicles, the maps, the gameplay were all great and there are alot of maps IMO, I know they recycled maps from other gameplay modes but they were still great additions and not having to pay for new maps was fine by me. Why buy it used and save $5 anyway, the used price is always like $5 lower than brand new. Isn't it worth it to just get it new?

@UseSplash It seems you've written off the game without actually reading about what makes it unique. I don't think the campaign is generic at all. If you have any interest in the military, I think you'll find the attention to detail to be really impressive.

If I had 10 generic games to the caliber of Half-Life 2 or Halo, i'd play them all. Problem is that most of them falter in maintaining that high degree of quality. Funny thing about these so called non-generic games is that nobody buys them, that's why they rarely have large production budgets. People like what they're familiar with, that's why they sell. Everyone loves to throw around the generic term as if they're more unique than the next guy. Get over yourself.

@Andrew Yoon I watched the intro and some gameplay after reading the review because I just do not know what to think of this game. Beards are awesome and there are seemingly a large number of beards in this game. So that is a plus. On the other hand the 911 stuff and setting make me squeamish towards the whole thing. I think it is easier to go back decades and "play a war" as opposed to something that is on going. In the short term it comes of as rose tinted propaganda and seems exploitative. (though I would need to play the game before I pass that judgement) I am just saying that the traditional WWII setting and things of that nature seem to be a little easier to stomach. The weight of history has so heavily engulfed these events that it seems to be so black and white. The morality of all these modern events is murky and the people hurt by these tragedies wounds are too fresh. I am saying that there has been time to reconcile and heal with these older events (of course not fully for some) whereas this is too fresh. Any thoughts?

@The Wicker Man As I stated in the review, the game's story isn't so much about the war, but what it means to be a soldier. It may detail events of a war that's ongoing, but I think Danger Close does a fair job of not voicing an "opinion," if that makes sense. Depending on how you look at it, that's both a good and bad thing.

@Andrew Yoon Well that is a good thing. I also hope "what it means to be a soldier" is not heading out on a risky mission bitching about rap music over the com. OR slipping and yelling "MOVE!" in english when you have been speaking in Arabic, or the fancy american weapons. Not very bright! (im referencing the intro to the game, WORST UNDERCOVER SQUAD!) I suppose I am addressing what would probably be a better fit for the "Taliban offensive name change thing". Not attacking a review, just curious what my fellow posters think about this games setting. (but I damn sure will criticize you if you step outta line YOOOOOOOON!!!! :) )

@The Wicker Man Also, and I am sorry to repost, how many of US know what it is to be a soldier? I imagine these games are not too far of a progression from the romanticized novels and poems to war. The soldier's duty and all that.

Take some international theory, or international conflict college courses. You'd be amazed at how much of what happened in WW2 isn't "black and white." For example, there are significantly far more people who condemn the use of the A-bomb and fire bombing today than there was at the time. Then again in the Political Science field no one is ever happy...

Well from what I've read, the multiplayer component of this game has never had a distinct focus and drive behind it. It's always seemed confused as to what it is; this simply proves that.

@Indefinite Implosion According to Gamesradar, the Multiplayer is fantastic, giving it an 8 out of 10 as compared to the Campaign which received a 7 out of 10.

"MoH's multiplayer could be more exciting, flashier even. But DICE choose to keep it reserved, and that's okay, because it does what it does so well. It's an experience you can't get elsewhere, but its safer than it is innovative, and it isn't the Next Big Thing (sorry)."

I've got to add here that the lack of a "Kill Cam" to me is just fine. Yes, it's annoying to get sniped multiple times from a glitchy hiding spot, but the real fun is in coordinating your team to take down a hiding sniper while simultaneously holding off other enemy ground forces.

I don't mean to say that it's necessarily BAD, just that it's never known what it wants to be; a MW clone or a BF clone... I meant more that it doesn't sound like Danger Close asked DICE to make it a certain way from the start and that's what we got, but instead sounds more like DICE started making it and Danger Close gave them some rough guidelines and then got them to make changes during and it just kinda ended up how it is, instead of being planned that way.

All that said, I enjoy BF multiplayer WAY more than MW multiplayer so this certainly sounds like it should be my pick between MW and MH.

I knew this would be the case. At times, it makes sense for a certain dev to make both campaign and multiplayer. Not to mention, Dice already had a lot on their plate, and stretching a dev too thin is always a bad decision.

I completely agree. Modern Warfare 2 left such a horrible taste in my mouth. The story was written by a collective of six year old boys. If you hated MW2, I think you'll like what MOH has to offer.

Modern Warfare 2 seemed to be more about the big, ridiculous moments than realistic modern warfare. Getting evacuated out of a castle by a helicopter as an explosion goes off, or having a snowmobile shootout (or a river raft shootout....or...pick your ridiculous poison) didn't really scream realistic. If Medal of Honor comes a bit closer than that to realism, it has definitely taken a step in the right direction.

Multiplayer is what ends up selling these games though. If most of the other reviews are similar in their rating of the multiplayer portion, it will be interesting to see what impact that might have on sales.

@Doctor Who If the Campaign in Call of Duty is the gold standard by which we are judging other campaigns, then there's something very wrong. Incoherent narrative, pointlessly fighting millions of bad guys in nonsense locations, ridiculous plot twists that make almost no sense ... and capable of being beaten on a Sunday morning after the NFL pre-game show and before half time.

@BananaBoat That's what's sad about this review... he's comparing single player and multiplayer to each other. Logically you can't seeing as they single player and competitive multiplayer are there to give you two different experiences. You'd have a fairer comparison between a single player RPG and single player FPS.

@BananaBoat You hit the nail on the head.

I've been playing Call of Duty games since they were deep, respectful games about how insane war is. The best moments in the original were the introspective sequences after a battle was over and you got a time to take in the battlefield full of bodies and the entirely obliterated town you were in.

The last Call of Duty game I played was Modern Warfare, and it essentially catered to the idiots on that annoying Best Buy commercial with the store clerks talking about the jump into the helicopter from the barge in the first mission being all like WHAAAAT and OMG THAT WAS SOOOOO AWESOME!!!1111eleventyone!!!

Here I thought it would be the other way around, with the campaign lacking and the multiplayer being fantastic. I'm still content with BFBC2 multiplayer, and found the multiplayer in MOH to be leaning towards the MW2 side, so I don't think I'll be partaking in this game.

Great review.

I can definitely see myself picking this up once it goes on sale on Steam or EA online store down to the low $20s (like it did with BC2 awhile ago).

How was the soundtrack and sound effects for the game though? Didn't mention that in the review and I think that can add quite a bit to immerse you in a game.

@BoBsS The soundtrack is appropriate, but not necessarily memorable. The rest of the sound design, however, is incredible. The constant chatter, and the quality of the sound effects, is great. I love the dialogue: characters talk with an earnestness that you don't see in other FPS games.

Having to quit to the main menu while in the game is something almost all Battlefield games require. Seeing as how it's built by the same team, I'm not surprised and I can't fault them for something I haven't faulted them on before.

I don't know if its that he "didn't recall" it. Just because they make the same mistakes repeatedly doesn't mean they should be forgiven.

Personally, I've always found DiCE's UI's to be pretty awful. The server browsers are always slow, and everything else is always an unintuitive multi-menued mess, from BF1942 to today.
