To little to late.

I think it's biggest problem is that the games (the ones it actually gets that is) still cost more than umds and rarely are there sales. So many games from last year are still 40 dollars.

Nonsense? Sure it has games, good ones at that, but not nearly enough compared to the "classic" UMD library.

That wouldn't be so bad if all new games went to the go as well, but as we saw with Square-Enix, that's not the case.

It's a totally legitimate complaint...

You are quite correct the PSP Go has no games. However the PSP does have games, quite a few good ones.

Not friendly to gamers enough. Is $200 really going to move such a restrictive piece of hardware? Generally, I think not.

Edit: I want to add that at least this MSRP drop will hopefully drop prices even further on places like Amazon.

You can already get a Go for $200'ish now, and this should drive it down even further to $150'ish..

(wishful thinking)

i agree Ezio, $150 is pretty much a good price. $200 would be good if it came with at least 2 games and a movie, or 2 really good games

Should've been this - or lower - from the start, considering Sony charged $250 just because "they could."

I really don't like this practice that seems to be catching on. First Sony with the PSP Go and now Nintendo is raising their prices simply because they know people will stomach it.

What happened to competition driving lower market prices and increases quality? It seems like now the more quality increases the more people seem to think they can get away with price hikes for no apparent reason.

Precisely. I'm super excited for the 3DS but I totally won't be dropping the potential $300 (some say it'll drop to $250 which I think is nonsense) for it when it launches next year. And while we have no idea what the PSP2's going to be like, I'm almost positive that thing's going to be just as expensive if not slightly more than the 3DS.

Geez...handhelds are supposed to be mobile, miniature, on the go devices. These days they're starting to cost just as much if not more than the consoles themselves, which is really bad form in my taste, especially since I tend to play way more handheld games than console games anyway.

@sonicspike41 To be fair, Sony had no business putting a premium on the Go. Nintendo does as much as I hate it. I doubt they hiked the price by more than 25-50 bucks, though. Still ridiculous but it's not like it will last long at that price. They might as well capitalize on the launch as much as possible because no matter what price point, it's still going to sell out like crazy.

The bigger outrage is Apple, bar none. $100 extra for 32GB more memory? It's absolutely ludicrous with absolutely no justifications outside the fact that people buy it (sort of) anyway.

I really, really, hope that never happens to real (tactile controls, hello) gaming handhelds.

This feels like they are trying to sell a few more before they inevitably announce what is essentially a PSP Go Phone. Hopefully it's Android-based and priced realistically.

@MrU2 No, I think you're reading it wrong. I was going to comment on it in my own post, but you brought it up. $180 is likely what this retailer is buying it at. The manufacturing costs wouldn't be disclosed to retailers. I'm actually surprised it's so high though. $20 margin for shelf space for a severely underperforming product is not very good. And as others have already mentioned, this is way too much.

@Electrium

Pay $30 for them to replace the UMD drive with a 16GB flash drive, blue-tooth, and a much nicer for-factor. The 16GB is nice, and when complemented with an M2 card (which are all cheaper than their 3000-complacent ProDuo counterparts on Amazon.com,) PLUS the fact that blue-tooth allows you to use headsets, stereo blue-tooth headphones, Dualshock 3 controllers, and as a data tether to phones, it's not like it's worth it or anything like that. How much is a blue-tooth adapter for the PSP-3000, and a 16GB MS? SURELY it has to be less. Plus, the PSPgo's vastly improved screen should'nt mean anything either.

I MAY spend $40 on Ghost of Sparta when it comes out, but I'd do the same with the UMD. And, I am one of those who thinks games like Kingdom Hearts and all of the other Japanese crap are wastes of time. At least if my PSP get's stolen or broken, I'll have the game backed up in three different places. If a PSP-3000 is stolen with your UMD in it, sucks to be you.

BTW, these will go for $180 (with a $20 PSN card,) on Black Friday at a few locations around me. Probably can find better deals in other places.

I bought the very first PSP (PSP 1000) and thought that the game library has steadily gotten better throughout the years (i was a little pissed when they released the 2000, then the 3000 because the adjustments seemed so insignificant that it shouldn't be considered a "new" PSP) and whne i saw the PSPGo i thought, "hey if the games keep getting better and better than sure i would support sony, plus it would be fun to play all my games without having to haul around a case of umd's." but without a trade in program for old games, and the lack of their really good games for download, i think that even with the price drop the go would still be about 200$ to much.

It already is $200 at walmart. That's how I got mine. It's actually pretty nice (I tried both of them out in Best Buy, and the 3000 didn't feel nice in my hands). The only problem now is that psp games suck. I'm incredibly disappointed by all of the games that I've bought for it. Makes me wish I had of gotten a DS : /

Still glad I got the Go over 3000 though. You usually don't save much on UMD's over digital version, and sometimes digital is actually cheaper. However, Amazon has some insane deals on UMD's occasionally. If you don't own a psp and you wanna get one, I would say get the Go. You still get 3 free games with it (although it takes 7-10 days for them to mail you the code, and it's been over that and I still haven't gotten mine). However, the games just suck crap, so unless you want a nice psone emulator, you won't find too much enjoyment.

Lets see....

1. Still too high price
2. Still not many games are getting digital release
3. The games that are getting digital release cost more than the same on UMD.
4. We all know the PSP2 is real and should be released sometime in the near future. (i wouldn't be surprised if the PSP2 is released for the holiday season).

Retailers actually had to pay $225 for that thing, and now they pay $180? If I owned a retail store I wouldn't even want to pay that to stock the item.

The perceived market value of a PSPgo has been $0.00 for a while now. My PSP 3000 however...still lovin' it.

And I think people who are looking into buying a PSP should get a 3000 because you can download games from the playstation store and get UMDs, because most of the best games are the games that aren't on the playstation store.

Digital should have been cheaper than physical copies, and every physical UMD game should have been made available as a digital download.

If that happened the PSPGo might have had a chance.
