Good to hear so it doesn't sound as if it will be like Turtles in Time which I was afraid of.

Yeah, for the love of gods, please do not alter the game in any way. If you're going to charge more for it just do it, don't justify that with a terrible graphical "update".

Why not just leave it wide for 1-6 players, instead of just the latter?

I imagine the six-player couch option is an online-offline combo. Otherwise I have no idea how that would work with the four player PS3 limit.

The PS3 can handle up to 7 players.

I think?

@ironneko Yeah PS3 can support up to seven players at one time. Only a few games have supported it, though.

That came back in? I thought they dropped it down to 6 right before launch because, hey, 7 makes no sense.

Then again, the PS3 has had a ton of updates and I haven't kept up with all of the changes.

Not from a technical standpoint, who makes a 7 player game?

Um, you could do an Ice hockey game and have someone control the coach in addition to the 6 playas? Or the ref?

How strange to switch from 4:3 to 16:9 for such an unrelated reason.

Games don't have to be that authentic to old school!

I'm gonna buy it anyway!

Yeah seriously. I couldn't tell you the number of times I went a widescreen arcade cabinet and started playing alone. It wouldn't take long for a couple others to join in.

This was a real quarter eater back in the day, but I can't imagine it being worth more than a play-through or two at home. I think X-Men is one game that would benefit from some expansion vs a faithful remake.

I was about to post angry post about how 360 is getting gypped, but I just realized something. I think they (Backbone Entertainment and Alex) mean you can only play a 6-player game online with the XBLA release, not that there is no local multiplayer. It does come across that way in the article though.

Alex and Joystiq crew, can you guys clarify that for us? Your answer will be the deciding factor of which version to get for me and other multi-platform owners.

@GumbyX

The 360 has no capability of providing more than 4 local players, so it will be an online feature only.

@LaughingTarget I know the 360 can't support more then 4 player. I want to know 1) if there is any local multiplayer for the XBLA release and 2) if you can have 4 players local and 2 online.

I'm excited about this - I really, really am! But what ever happened to the Gauntlet DS game, Backbone Ent.? Is it dead or what? (If so, which it probably is, that really sux 'cause I was looking forward to that.)

No.... NO! I refuse to buy another butchered release by Backbone Entertainment.

Widescreen supported for them just means they'll stretch the image sideways making your mutants fat like The Blob (see what I did there).

If you want to buy from the same guys that are responsible for:

1942 Joint Strike
Bomberman Live (Ultra)
Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection
Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3
Shrek n' Roll
Super Street Fighter II Remix Turbo HD

To name a few of the large list of crap they have release then go ahead. I refuse to give them anymore of my money for sub-par products.

You've been warned.

@matahtak I agree. Hearing that these are the people behind this game is a real turn off for me. Definitely makes it one to try the demo of first.

Uhh... Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix and Marvel v. Capcom 2 are damn good, so they have some good stuff in their resume.

@CpEWahoo I disagree with you on Super Street Fighter 2 Remix, I thought the new gameplay "rules" were terrible. It's the reason why most fans discount it over Street Fighter IV.
