Castlevania: Lords of Shadow PS3 patch incoming
28
These are dark times -- if you're paranoid about losing hours of game progress. Some users have reported an unusual save glitch in the PlayStation 3 version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Affected players report being prompted with a message upon startup, which reads, "Save file corrupt, will now overwrite, press X to continue." Needless to say, pressing X leads to grim results.
Konami has acknowledged the problem -- which it says is restricted to a small number of users -- and promised a patch is en route to eradicate erroneous erasure. We'll let you know when we hear a firm release date, and recommend you keep a backup of your save file on a USB drive in the meantime.

A friend told me about this last night so I backed up my save file after I stopped playing.
Guess what popped up today when I booted it up?

Was there ever problems with this kind of stuff back in the day (last gen and lower)(Oh and besides scratched disc)? Why now?

@Hayatoblaze91x because now you don't have to make the game work right the first time.
You can just patch any mistakes you make. Which really sucks, because now practically any game you buy is filled with glitches, some games even having game-breaking glitches. It's just ridiculous. They used to make sure that games at least didn't have any obvious glitches because once they released it, that was it. If they screwed up then their sales would show it.

These types of issues were less common, but still happened plenty of the time. Battery backed save files got lost all the time, back when they were in your game cartridge
some games would give you a save code that was invalid when you put it back into the game too
I'd say the reason we see more bugs like this is because the games are a thousand times as complicated. There's probably more code involved in the menu screen for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow than there was in all the NES games put together

On a related note, what's with profile and saved game files for Transformers: War for Cybertron being copy protected (copying is denied when attempted via the usual means; not an error message, just denied). I was trying to move my son's saved campaign to the PS3 upstairs and it wouldn't let me copy it to a USB flash drive. Works on every other game with the same flash drive, but denied for T:WfC. His account on the downstairs PS3 is the master (local and PSN) account for that PS3. Think that has anything to do with it? Although I swear having remembered copying saved games from that account before, no problem.

I believe some companies just don't allow it. I believe Rock Band is another game that you cannot copy saves.

@Dao Jones Thanks. I suppose they're concerned about some kind of exploitation or cheating, but it's too bad, especially for campaign-only saves: it's such a handy thing in a 5-person household in which 4 people game A LOT and there's always competition for console time.

The worst thing about this bug is that it occurs most often at the final boss of the game. There's nothing worse than thinking you're striking the final blow only to find out that you pretty much killed your savefile instead.

This happened to me,
Second phase of a boss fight, I couldnt do it.. so I quit game and went to bed.
Woke up, turned it on.. and got that messages. only 5 hours of progress wasted.
Now everytime I assume a boss fight is happening, I exit game and back it up. Or, I never, never, EVER quit mid-level.

I started the game, but I've been holding off really getting into it till the patch comes, just in case. Hope it's here soon.

Probably not a good joke, but I should point out that it is targeting Fanboys and not PS3 itself. I have to explain my jokes because I suck at them. Too subtle? Too obvious? No matter, it made me laugh anyway.

Its ironic how all that money goes into modern game design and some of the biggest faults still get by.
Especially the camera in Lords of Shadow. I disliked the camera after playing just the demo. Still seems like an okay game though so eventually I'll pick it up
