Hopefully these fixes are rolled out fast. I want this game but all the many issues I have read about have caused me to hold off.

@Sarthurk None of the things people complain about are being fixed here.

The reason is because very few of the complaints about the game are valid.

@Sarthurk There are definitely issues with the game, but none should prevent you from picking it up and enjoying it, really. In fact, many of the issues are really "issues" because of the high standards people hold Civilization games to.

@Sarthurk: i've had no issues with the game. i think most complaints are just whiny fanboy talk.

@Credge Except for the whole multiplayer thing being busted. Seriously, no manual save for multiplayer? Huge fail.

So "distorted graphics", "assigning population to tiles not working", and "frequent mini-freeze ups as the map periodically redraws itself" are not valid problems? Those are what happens with my Civ5. Happens on both my laptop and desktop, both minimum-spec systems...but it makes the game unplayable from a practical level. I don't mind turning every possible detail off if I've got a minimum spec, but I don't want to suffer 10-second freezes ever 5 seconds when trying to read tooltips for the technology tree. That's just poorly made crap. It's doubly painful when the game doesn't even seem like it pushes the system. I've got a dozen games that are more technologically impressive than Civ5 and perform way better, too.

But..it's Civ5, so I suffer and beg.

@KayinAngel

Some of it is fanboy "Civ IV is better" talk but there is no denying that the AI is pretty damn useless when it comes to diplomacy and making use of the new combat system.

Also, no hotseat multiplayer is a bummer for those who like to play that way

"Priority of trading posts reduced" for workers is nice to see, got a bit sick of taking over Civs and having to remove trading posts from EVERY tile around some cities!

Good stuff, looking forward to seeing this title grow better with every patch...

You've probably heard, but they have said it's coming soon. But yeah, ditto on that.

Not having an option for workers to leave improvements alone at launch surprised me--it was in the past two versions and seemed like a big oversight.

@TK9000

The option to leave old improvements is in the config file, but it doesnt seem to work.

stupid workers keep clearing out my farms and the only way I know it is because I get a popup saying my town is starving.

The lead dev said somewhere that there is quite a bit of the stuff which can be found in the xml files which is just concept stuff that they never got implemented for whatever reason. I imagine that that's one of them

Its taking much restraint to not get this right now. Waiting for a price drop. Glad to know things are getting fixed in the interim.

I hope they tweak the changes they made to negotiating peace in the last update. The patch notes read that civs would be less likely to offer a city in their pleas for you to stop conquering them (a valid fix), but ever since then, even a civ in dire straits is unwilling to offer so much as a single gold coin to secure peace. The game gives absolutely no reason not to wipe them out.

Too bad it doesn't look like they're doing anything to speed up the game. Unless you have a top of the line system the turns on larger maps take forever to process.
Add to that Workers and Buildings taking forever to build, and you've got a seriously slow game.

I played Civ IV on Epic, and Civ V's construction speeds are slow to me.

I really tried to like the game. First, the installation scared the crap out of me. Steam wasn't updating, and 3 hours later, it wasn't installing from the disc. After I sorted that out...played the game for the whole night...and honestly, it feels like a chore. My biggest gripes were the social policies (permanent), watered down diplomacy, city states (they pretty much influence how the whole game is gonna be played) and barbarians. I would have liked to hear Leonard Nimoy again, as this new guy makes me skip the tech quotes. I await an expansion pack before I delve into Civ5 again.

Ask my why I'm just getting around now to playing Civilization IV...

The Complete Edition is $40 with both expansions + Colonization, all patches, no DRM. I'll wait to play V when its Complete Edition comes out. :)

The problem I keep running into is that when you take over a city state or one of the computer opponents, some of the lands remain in their control......even if they no longer exist. So you get little pockets of land you cannot work and often times strategic resources you can no longer use.
