@oncrazyleafsfan Indeed joystiq, you do have a lot of Canadian readers! Great way to promote the service though. Good move, Sony!

Too bad canadians are bound by crappy download + upload rates in canada.

Even if I had a ps3 I don't think I could spare the GB a month to stream a movie every week.

I have to agree, I'm from Europe and I'd like to know as well if this offer is also available outside North America.

I live in Halifax, NS and have 30GB download speeds with a 250GB/month cap. I've got GB to spare, so don't go thinking the whole country is on dial-up or something.

That's a good promotional idea. This version of Dracula makes for good late-night entertainment. I hope they have other cult classics for the next several weeks.

That said, I know I bought my one and only movie from the PSN store back when it was first rolled out...."Aliens." That particular ps3 YLOD'ed...is there any way to re-download the movie like we already do for games? I paid for it already.

According to the good people at the Sony Support Customer line, that isn't the case. Once the film content is gone, it's gone.

Has anybody else run into this problem?

@kentuckyfried is the current account the same account used to buy the movie? authorize/activate your video and just visit your previous downloads, press X and click Download

Movies are one of the two exceptions to this that I have seen (the other being PS1 classics that you wish to sync between PSP and your PS3, but only if you sync them). I actually don't mind this, given that I've downloaded plenty of games from friends' accounts and it's OK because Sony worked that into their business model.

I'll re-check again, but yeah, Aliens wasn't in my past downloaded queue.

It could very well possibly be under one of my alternate aliases, but I check in the past and the film wasn't there either. I know that when this whole mess started, the account I was using as my primary was NOT authorized to download video, etc.

In any case, it was alot of trouble getting on the phone with the sony support since the person I'd talk to on the phone invariably would not know what I was talking about. And calling back and forth is a hassle b/c they don't pick up for awhile.

In any case, I should just buy another thing and make sure the history is working properly, and let the previous Aliens purchase just be water under the bridge.

The rules for video content and game content on PSN are different. Game content can be redownloaded indefinitely to a finite set of (activated) PS3/PSP/PCs (I should note that comics content on the PSP follows this model as well). However, video content can only be downloaded ONCE. Also, *rented* SD content can be transferred once from a PS3/PC to a PSP, I think, and not at all in the other direction. At any rate, this restriction is why the PS3 allows you to back up video content to external storage (well, not so much "back up" as "move," since it frees up space on the PS3's hard drive). Bottom line: no more Aliens for you unless you buy it again.

Wow, this is an awesome idea. Well done, Sony. 8D

I just hope this lasts a long time, or better yet, indefinitely. It'll be a real bummer if it only goes on for a couple months or so.

The point is: RTFA first. He wasn't being an outright dick; how the hell are people to presume how much sleep you got or what the hell is going on in your life? You make a demand that was already met, expect to catch some flack.

So far, the freebies have been awful on the ps3, so I hope they give us some good free rentals for this promo.

Warehouse 13 s01e01 - awful
Armored - starts of promising, ends as waste of time

There was free hentai though for a little bit, right? hahaha.

That's good and all but this movie is already available as an instant watch on Netflix. I'm hoping that they'll put some movies up that aren't just to add an even better variety.

Still, I think it's a good move if you can get the HD versions.

There are way too many of these US (or North America) only features on PS3 and Xbox 360. We Europeans paid MORE for our consoles and get fewer features? There is no excuse!
