Sony America's Taku Imasaki, producer on Gran Turismo 5, recently explained to a positively irate New York Times why the infamously tardy racer was recently bumped from its no, seriously, this time we mean it release date of November 2. "We're really close, but this was an executive decision that was made yesterday [Oct. 12]," Imasaki said. "Realistically, we thought we had a good date. We're not happy over here."
Imasaki later reiterated that Sony "is shooting for it to be out by the holidays," but added, "you won't see too much more delay." We'd ... we'd like to hear a more definitive response than that. Not that we'd, you know, believe it, but still.

I'm going to guess it was to add anti-piracy methods in like Medal of Honor did.

@rchapoteau Bullshit. It doesn't take a month to add in a firmware update onto a disc.

More like they wanted to distance themselves as much as possible from COD BO.

Yes it does.
The game is suppose to be on selves in less then a month, if they are going to add anti-piracy measures then it is going to take at least a month to burn all the discs again.

No, thats cool, it's not like we've been waiting for this game since the launch of PS3 or anything :D

@Spunky Monkey 190906 i couldn't agree more.
You can catch me on other GTA 5 posts ragging on it, as if i don't like the game which is untrue.
Where they messed up to me is releasing that download (Prologue?) around the same time Ps3 first hit the market; which i played and enjoyed, that was about 3 years ago..

I still believe they should have just made that GT5 and called this one GT6, we would have had DLC and god knows what else for Prologue already, enough for it to be a viable option as a simulation racing game. Patches could have easily added more stuff in.

I remember them saying when they released Prologue that it will be updated regularly so ultimately it will reach the level of the final game, then you can buy the full game for all the cars and stuff not in prologue.
Probably my brain is making this up but I can almost swear that I read it somewhere back then.
If they did that, we'd be reading about the delay of GT6 instead of this. which would be a much better situation.

I don't play racing games to much anymore but GT5 looks awesome. It really sucks that they keep pushing the game back. People will be pissed off the game is full of bugs.

Gran Turismo is pretty consistent that we should give them at least. I don't expect bugs if any at all, but I do want to see 3 years of worth of Cars available.
Also i want to hear X to tha Z pop up and say "Yo Dogz, we know you like gaming. So on your Used 1985 Ford Escort, we put a Commodore 64 on the hood of your carr!!!"
Ohhh snap!

Kinda interesting this year about all the delays. So many games pushed to 1Q next year.
And on top of that we have two very interesting cases.
First NBA Elite 11 which came so close to being shipped before being delayed that copies were pressed and ads appeared in papers from local retailers saying they had it.
Second, GT5, which after finally having its first hard release date ever, misses this too, announced just a few weeks before the date.

Yep, they missed their hard date they were adamant they would reach. That's a big deal for a company that has already sliped behind its goals repeatedly.
I suspect something major is wrong with the game. I hope I'm wrong, and Polyphony has an excellent track record on quality.
Anyhow, this will eat substantially into sales because they are going to miss some holiday sales. I'm going to be done with Christmas shopping by the first couple of weeks of November, and I was going to get PS3 owners in my family this game. If this is a matter of polishing some special function, I think they should disable it, launch the product, and patch the game to restore that function.

that's what i'm saying. at this point they should just release the game and put out a release day patch. i would have no problem with that. there has to be something seriously wrong with it. i just want the damn game already.

This game has gone way beyond "I'll believe it when I see it". At this point, I could be at home playing GT5 after just purchasing it, and I would still have some remaining doubt about its release. I've still not fully come to terms with the fact that GT for PSP was actually released. I guess it's just a bit disorienting when a launch title comes out 5 years after the console it's for.

Haha :D So true, you almost feel like you're dreaming, at any moment, they'll kick down your front door, approach your PS3 and take your copy of GT5 and as you ask why, they tell you.
"It's not finished yet, we have more stuff to add to it, we'll give it back when it is REALLY finished".

@ben linus Gran Turismo is far from a dying franchise. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue sold over 2 million copies. And it was a demo! It had only like 5 tracks! The franchise is very much alive. But, on the other hand, Assassin's Creed seems to be going down the drain now that the Ubisoft president has basically said he is going to milk it for all its worth without any regard for the developers. And, yeah, theres no sign of the Call of Duty franchise leaving us for a very long time.
