@ILT2

So PC devs have never had to delay a game? They've never thought "shit, there's just too many good PC games coming out this time of the year, let's either release it sooner or delay it"?

What about games like Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, every Mario game, every Zelda game, almost every Samus game, and more. Are those all examples of consoles gamers losing?

@ILT2 kind of doesn't make sense to me. who wants to have to choose between 5 different games? i'd much rather a steady stream of good games so i don't have to choose between 5 games.

and if you're able to spend enough to buy a new console then you're able to buy 5 different games.

ok, we get it, you don't like microsoft. but you also clearly don't understand a damn thing about public relations. company spokesman can't just go out and make false statements, if they're saying this it's because they have some numbers to back it up. sure, sometimes they specialize in half truths, but companies like microsoft aren't going to outright lie. they have an image to uphold (however shaky that may be at times) and shareholders to appease.

Also, regardless what they think of their reputation, if they even seriously entertained the idea of willfully misleading the public with false statements the FCC would sodomize the people responsible with the very teleprompter they used to spread such lies.

Why can't he make false statements? False statements only get you in trouble if someone can prove you wrong. Otherwise, they're great. NPD is no longer publishing hardware sales, and they probably don't permit public disclosure of them by anyone else, otherwise someone could just forward them on to the public. You wouldn't be able to use the NPD figures in a public counter-argument. Thus, the best anyone could do in response to a potential Greenberg lie would be "Nuh uh!"

I'm not saying Greenberg is wrong, though. I'm just saying that without unbiased, public reporting, this "figure" is now stupid and meaningless and I'll trust self-reporting from Sony and MS as much as I'll trust Glenn Beck that buying gold coins with limited edition donkeys on them is a smart way to invest my savings.

Except that you are making the assumption that just because NPD no longer publishes these numbers for free, that they aren't being distributed for their paying customers. Lots of people are still getting the NPD numbers and can fact check anything these companies say, including their competitors.

I have no doubt the numbers are making the rounds, but a public relations person deals with the public, and the public isn't getting the numbers. Certainly, if the real numbers were legitimately (i.e. not rumors or hearsay) distributed widely enough then fabrication would be too risky, but as it stands...who would know? Sony, I'm sure, knows whether it's a lie or the truth. But would it really be worth starting a shouting match over? That's not going to get them the kind of PR they want. Plenty of other companies get the report too, but if you're not MS and you're not Sony, why would you give a crap about blowing the whistle? Maybe Larry Elison would do it.

Again, I have no reason to doubt Greenberg, I'm just saying it's silly to bandy about completely unverifiable claims. We're stuck with 1st party information? Because that's not biased..

You think that if Sony knew MS was lying about sales numbers and could prove it that they wouldn't do anything about it? The same company that launched a yaybuttons website to make fun of controllerless solutions? The same company that said real men don't fight with their wrists (mocking the Wii)?

Of course Sony would say something if they had proof that MS was lying about sales numbers. And MS would do the same to Sony if they had that information.

I considered getting it for a friend, but his brother and I decided to split the cost of a regular 360 for him (since HDMI out broke). Sadly it's been a few months since then and money is tight so we've both put the plan on hold.

I did. To replace my SE MW2 360 (which is going to another room). The MW2 one was to replace my (now repaired) original Elite. The Elite was purchased to get a HDD larger than 20GB. Other than the old Pro, they all still work. Apparently I'm a sucker...

I couldn't stay with that one long. I've had it since launch & it was okay until recently I couldn't even download demos for certain games because of space. I bought my slim as soon as I could & traded in my phat one. Plus it kept overheating on me at random times. Only spent 180 on mine thanks to the trade in at gamestop.

This trend will continue for awhile.

Next month is Black Ops, and every year CoD pushes out a ton of 360s, even if there aren't any 360/CoD special editions, it still manages to push out 360s.

Then there's also Kinect but I don't know if that will push consoles. The 360 will be in the "green" or ARROW UP (lol) position until January.

Not surprised by this. Everybody rushed out to buy the new console when it released. Even the people who passed on it, most likely got the Reach edition & now people who still haven't been convinced can get the 2gb console or the bundle with Kinect. MS really planned to own this year in hardware sales.

I picked up the 4GB slim (sold my old 20GB Xbox to a friend) and slapped a used 60GB HDD in it off ebay. You can pick up 20GB ones for $15, or you can stick a USB drive in it (up to 16GB)- so I think the $200 slim is still a great deal as long as you're willing to spend a couple bucks extra for more storage.

Get back to me, though, when you sell more total units than the Wii, worldwide. Or, even in the Americas.

When the 250 gb slim gets down to 150, it will. Untill then, it always remains, the cheapest sell the most. I don't get why companies don't see this.

It beat the Wii worldwide last month, at least in areas that are tracked. But you need more sources than just NPD to see that.

No the wii is the cheapest. It's priced at 150 bucks. The only reason they have it at 200 is because of the wii sports resort & wii motion plus bundled in with the newer versions. They still sell the regular with just wii sports & that's the cheapest console.
