Halo: Reach Noble Map Pack coming Nov. 30
88
True story: Just yesterday we were saying, "Huh, not as many people seem to be talking about Halo: Reach lately." Then, this morning we wake up to find that Bungie will be stoking the flames on November 30 with the downloadable Noble Map Pack. Get out of our heads, creeps!
Ten bucks gets you access to three new environments. The first is Tempest (pictured), an abandoned shoreline facility featuring two symmetrical bases for 8 – 16 player fights. Anchor 9, an orbital dry-dock controlled by the UNSC, is a more intimate 2-8 player affair. Finally, there's Breakpoint, a series of frozen, modular archaeological labs for 8-16 players fracases. Oh, and there are 250 more Achievement points to be had, which we know is all you really care about. Monster.
If that's still not enough new Halo, Bungie's challenging fans to make some of their own with the "Forgetacular Map Design Contest," the full details of which are right here. We'd love to participate, but we'll be too busy making foil hats to protect our precious thought waves.

I agree with you on the not buying as I'm just not to big on multiplayer, but to think no one will have them is silly. Those map packs are going to be huge.

@copa Agree. I'd rather put that $10 toward a new game. Besides, if history is our teacher then we know this map pack will eventually be free. Most of the map packs were eventually free for Halo 3, and then all bundled together with Halo: ODST. These map packs are for spendy early adopters.

At $10 I feel like there should be at least 4 maps, not just 3.
There are sooo many good XBLA games can buy for that price. Or spend it on a lot of good indie games.
Of course, $10 is the equivalent of buying fast food for lunch two days in a row. Guess I'd get more out of my money from buying the map packs than packing on the weight.

Especially since it looks like this is cut retail content. Here's a screenshot from August showing Tempest: http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14276699/halo-reach/images/halo-reach-20100820095447803.html?page=mediaFull

The only H3 map pack to ever become free was the Heroic pack, the others, while reduced in price, will still cost you.

@copa from my recollection, many of the Halo 3 playlists required the map packs as they were released. I'm sure they'll do the same with this. Unfortunately, Halo:Reach multi player has gripped me much more than any of the previous releases. I didn't pick up any of the Halo 3 Map Packs until they were free and/or when I bought ODST. I'm definitely buying Noble Pack day of release.
BTW Bungie we need Lockout/Blackout to make a reappearance!

All of the previous DLC for Halo 2 and Halo 3 have been priced at $10 for 3 maps, with the occasional single free map that was sponsored by another company.
A year goes by and people forget these things so easily....

We didn't forget! Just because they've always charged this amount doesn't mean it's a good value. If you compare it to the $60 you paid for the entire game it's a joke. But by all means, if you wanna keep drinking the coolaid go right ahead.
$10 for 5 new maps or $5 for 3 new maps would be much more reasonable.

I never bought those map packs as they were too expensive for what they were then, just as they are now. I only played them after buying ODST, whilst they were good maps I'm glad I didn't buy them at the time.
Also it seems to make less sense to do so in Reach as there are already a good supply of maps on the disc.

@Jerk Face EXACTLY! If you like the game and cannot afford $10 why are you even in gaming because it is an expensive type of entertainment.

I don't understand why people seem to hate remakes of old maps. Every time I play a sequel to any game in multiplayer I wish I could play this new updated game on a previous map that I loved. And no, I'm not going to pop in the old game to play that map, because the new game is out and it better than the old one.
That's usually how it goes for me.

They do pop up quiet a bit. In Halo 3, they always came up, especially sandbox. Only the last 3 didn't as much becausethey weren't very good. I'm excited. Hopefully, the archeaology one will be a good forging map.

That first picture reminds me of the towers from Halo C:E when you first land on the planet. Man I wish there was an HD remake...
It seems kinda soon for a map pack I think this could've/should've been included in the game...

even though i'll probably get it, i'm hoping that they'll just match up people who have the maps within a certain playlist, rather than blocking people from whole playlists.

for all the people complaining they did the same exact thing for Halo 3 and Halo 2 so if you bought those maps why are you people complaining 3 maps for $10 is better than $15 for a map pack(MW2)

I'll clarify: $10 for the Halo map pack is overpriced. $15 for the COD map pack was rediculously overpriced.

Because that still doesn't make it right. If someone kicked you in the nuts on five different occasions wouldn't you still be pissed off and complain each time, or would you just get used to it and start thanking them?
For $10 you should get at least 5 new maps.

@ShadowAsura there's this concept in economics called supply and demand. If Microsoft released a Map Pack for 10 and few people bought it, then they would lower the price until they made enough sales to justify development. Obviously they are getting the response they want at $10.
The thing is that the Halo games have been so masterfully done that a)People have no problem shelling out 150 something for Legendary Editions and b)People want to supplement the experience with new content.
The price point is a no brainer...I've spent over 24 hours so far in Reach multiplayer (I know I'm slacking but I have a job, wife, and kids). If the map pack can extend the freshness of the experience for me, it's worth it.
If I didn't play Reach multiplayer that much, I would pass on it.

@Vcize I havent played matchmaking since around 2 weeks after the game came out, what do you mean it's been rotated out? People just always vote against it or it doesnt even come up as a choice?

@Vcize oh wow, that blows. I love Blood Gulch. Dang, there isn't even a Blood Gulch facsimile like Valhalla to replace it either. It's still in BTB right?

Bungie should have renamed their map design contest. It looks too much like "FORGETacular" than "FORGEtacular".
I'm just sayin'.

I hope they integrate them into matchmaking the same way as the modern warfare 1 variety map pack. In that one the new maps were mixed into the appropriate playlists naturally. There was none of this Bioshock 2 style where it matchmade first and *then* looked to see who had the maps. It also didn't have DLC only playlists or required the new maps for the most basic ranked playlists like Halo 3. It just mixed them in like you would expect. Hopefully Bungie can catch up to where Infinity Ward was years ago.

@EDZiLLUH Yeah, no one really complained in Halo 3 until those MW2 map packs came out. People need to stop comparing EVERYTHING to MW2! Thats not the only game in the world, its a good game but not the best. Not that any complaining will do anything, either way you gotta admit Bungie is making some freakin beautiful maps.

Do you have the map pack?
If the answer to this is no, which it is, then there is no way you can make a claim about how good a job they have done with it.

@This Little Man Says His Name Is The pictures do just fine in showing us what they made. It's not like I'm judging gameplay by a few pictures here.
They're each a bunch of what we already see in the game. The first one with the "two symmetrical bases" is just laughable. How many maps are in that area? How many maps are there with "symmetrical bases"? The second is a bit different than the others, I wouldn't mind playing on that one. The third pretty much looks like one of the firefight levels - which makes it silly that you have to pay for it.
