Minecraft gets its own social network, Minecraftr
37
Are you guys ready to hear about what might just be the trendiest website in the entirety of the deep, vast internet? Take the immense popularity of Minecraft, throw in a fully-featured, Facebook-esque social network, and then, for good measure, tack on a completely unnecessary consonant to the end of its name. What do you get? Minecraftr, a social hub designed to connect players of the constructive online title, allowing them to create groups, plan events, establish servers and chat through IRC and forums.
Though Minecraft certainly has its share of strengths, finding amateur builders like yourself is something of a chore for new players. If it takes off, Minecraftr might be a great way to wiggle your way into a community -- and then take its grand, intricate creations apart one brick at a time.
[Thanks, Chris!]

As a big fan of Minecraft (I just completed a 30-40 hour Death Star replica project), I disapprove of this message.

This is dumb. There are plenty of perfectly good Minecraft forums out there.

This site seems to have nothing to do, officially, with Notch or Minecraft at all, just a fansite. Of course, the terms of use make no reference to this fact, which is incredibly misleading to users,

I like the potential of this idea, being able to share ideas and creations easily, and grouping together buddies so its easier to find a server to go.
When I think of a social network I think of groups dedicated to stupid things like Facebooks like function. (MrMagicMushroom likes fisting pigs into lava).

Someone once told me that if you want to gain respect and power within a community, you should be the guy that creates the fan site. This guy went on to create the biggest fansite for the old MMO I used to play, and basically had an in with the developer for as long as I knew him (which he turned into power and respect in the game).
In other words, I can understand why someone would want to create something like this, but I don't think it is necessary. Then again, all I really do with Minecraft is blow stuff up, so what would I know about the social aspect (anyone know a good server? I promise I won't...you know...blow stuff up)

@Temidien - I've only ever blown stuff up in single player mode. I'd never destroy something someone had made on a server (unless they were a massive dick). Aren't creepers involved in the production of TNT on servers? The time it took to produce TNT would definitely inhibit my multi-thousand block TNT explosions.
I finally got a pretty big one to go off without crashing the game. It left a rather symmetrical hole that is about fifty or sixty blocks by forty across, and all the way down to the skybox below. It's beautiful *tears up*
