Stupid rubber banding.

Still love the game, though!

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze

So would this be a bad purchase for someone who rarely takes their games online?

I'd say no. I've only played the single player and feel that I've gotten more than my $60 worth out of it. :)

Anytime you see this game under $30 buy it. Enzio I wouldn't say this game is worth $60 but I do think it is a steal at $20.

Agreed, and at this price point it's a no-brainer. Anyone looking for a racer should pick it up.

Would love a sequel to this. If they fix the ai it could be the best arcade racer out there.

Guess it depends on which way you look at it.

Offline, I 'might' agree.

Online, BLUR is a blast.

Both are fantastic racing games in my opinion.

I played both and I prefer BLUR.

This is coming from a guy who DESPISED Blur during the beta.

Blur is all about strategy when you play online. Nearly all the cars are balanced too.

S/S has some quirky drifting (so did Blur) and horrendously cheap rubberbanding AI. I guess the developers wanted the player to constantly have an opponent to use their meter on.

@Petebot330

rubber banding is a common 'gameplay' element in racing games.

it means that enemy cars will automatically catch up to you and can never get too far behind (hence, they are on a rubber band).

in a game without rubber banding, for example, you can eventually lap your opponents and they all eat your dust. in a game with rubberbanding, that enemy you sent flying into a wall will suddenly go 500 miles an hour for a few seconds and catch up to you.

they put this into some race games to keep the 'edge' going, so you're always in a tight race. it makes for more tense racing, but if done badly it can make games nearly unwinnable since no matter how well you play if the enemy gets the rubber band boost right near the end they zoom by you and finish first.

@ferret I can't stand it...unfortunately the only way to counter is to suck a little (but not too much) until near the end of the last lap and save a powerup to clear out the competition.

I don't understand why racing developers feel this is good. Either make a more challenging AI that makes fewer mistakes and challenges the player or let the player bask in the glory of his skill. Turning off the rules all of a sudden because the player is winning (and it doesn't work the other way around unfortunately) ruins the experience.

That is until you send a giant tower crashing down on those SOBs

Rubberbanding in racing is just what it sounds like: if an AI is falling back, it gets boosted forward (unfairly).

Online is practically dead, but the upcoming DLC might breathe a little life into it. Offline is just as fun, as long as you can overlook how immovable the CPU opponents are -- There are instances where they literally drive UNDER you.

The bad thing about waiting for games like this to get cheaper is that by the time it gets to budget price few people are still playing online. Titles like Halo and Call of Duty that always have people playing rarely reach that price.

The demo was decent enough. I will be picking this game up tomoorrow after work. At $20 the price is definitely right. Maybe pick up a couple extra copies for gifts.

Just picked this up today. Well worth the $20. The game is just fun. Period. Isn't that what a racing game should be? If you can look past the RB issues--some of these modes are time suckers--which is awesome. Survival and Air Strike alone are worth the purchase price.

It really is a bargain of a price for a game so easy to pick up and play.

I never found the online that bad, you just have to play enough singleplayer to compete. Either that or cheat and buy the fastest cars on Xbox Live.

After hearing of the price drop I couldn't resist, plus having a $10 rz certificate made it easier, best $10 i've spent in a while.
