Final Fantasy XIV free trial period extended
49
Good news, Final Fantasy XIV fans, more free gaming is on the way. Square Enix has announced that the free trial period for Final Fantasy XIV is to be extended by an additional thirty days. The FFXIV website notes that extension is being made in light of "the nature of much of the feedback" and "the current state of the game," which we're assuming translates to "bugz." The extension will be available to all users with a registered service account who have purchased a character prior to October 25.
The site adds that the extension does apply to those with multiple accounts and that all extensions will be made automatically. Furthermore, those who have already been emailed about the end of their trial will still receive the extension.

Yeah, its not bugs they need to squash its monotony and boredom. I can say this as someone who actually bought the game. It just doesn't feel like a large world worth exploring and adventuring in. There isn't much story driving the experience and quests are very limited and repetitive.
To fix the game they just need a boatload of more content. Its as simple as that. Oh, and a better menu system.
So... why wasn't this released in 2011?

"WAIT DON'T GO! Just keep playing!! Give us a chance!! Please??
....and I'm a SE fan. What in the hell are they thinking lately....?

Maybe Square Enix should get together with Blizzard then. Talk about repetitive, including zone usage.

On another note, the game itself I did not find to be much of an improvement over 11 aside from obvious graphical update.

In its current state it is missing features that make FFXI easier to play. I would hope for at least a search feature, for anything at all, in the game.

I actually walked away in open Beta from this game I was so disenchanted with it. If it went free to play I'd not touch it. I think Square are going to have a flop on their hands.

So, I read the reviews of XIV and thought, "well I'll check out XI since my PC can't really handle this right now."
So, today I bought FFXI.
After 2 hours downloading through Steam, 6 hours of updates, and another hour of wading through the horrid sign-up process, I thought "Okay well now I guess I'm invested."
After a few hours playing FFXI, I've decided that tomorrow, I'm buying WOW.

Unless you're looking for a casual MMO (least that's what WoW is before level 20), I think you're going to have a similar experience with the gameplay. Most MMOs have the same core of grinding a lot with little story to back up what you do. MMOs are ment to be social among other players and not just going out on your own hoping to experience something worth while.

I can't decide if you're trolling or just incredibly short-sighted.
If you're happy to judge a game after just "a few hours", you probably shouldn't be playing MMOs. This isn't Call of Duty. The MMO experience is directly related to time invested, (and value for time invested). Some take weeks, months, or in XI's case, years, (not flaming it at all--it's just especially deep), to fully explore and appreciate. I don't think you can make a fair judgment of FFXI--or any MMO--in just a few hours.

And that is why MMO's are inherently terrible, and anyone who plays them should feel bad.

I'm sorry. I have to interrupt. Not that you're not wrong in saying an MMO needs time to grow on you and learn BUT if one more person compares an MMO to Call of Duty I'm going to go on a kill-streak and nuke your city.

You might want to look into Guild Wars if you're looking for a more casual style MMO with relatively little mandatory grind; it's buy once to play and there's tons of content; Guild Wars 2 is just around the horizon as well so you can play the first to get you ready for it.

It's funny how every time I say something about how inherently bad MMO's are, I get downvoted into oblivion by mouthbreathing fat neckbeards living in their mom's basement, who probably have like a dozen lvl 80 characters in Wow.
Very few exceptions aside, MMO's are all crap, by design. They're not made for your fun, they're made to keep you stuck to them as long as possible.
Of course anyone playing them can't admit this to themselves, that they're just playing out of some weird compulsion, which is carefully and methodically exploited to the extreme by developers. But just wait until you get older. You'll realize. All the fun you could've had. Instead you threw your best years away performing an incredible amount of menial repetitive tasks for the sake of increasing a number on a server, to show off to other people.
I feel sad for every friend I have who's stuck in an MMO.

I like how the band wagoners down rated your statement even though it didn't degrade their wonder child (40 year olds living at home) game. FYI WoW is also very repetitive and simple, why do you think it's popular.

First off I don't think the name calling is necessary just because you got down-voted unless you like having lots of hearts on the server for the sake of pride among internet commenter.
Second each person have their own way of having fun. Your statement seems like it's claiming that you know a universal fun that applies to everyone. Such a thing is too subjective, imo, to be written like that.
I can say from my experience with FFXI that MMO isn't just repetitive task, there's a huge social aspect to it. It's just like hanging out with friends, except I can casually game with them. People actually create friendships and memories from these games.
All in all if someone is actually happy playing MMO or any other genre I'm not sure there should be a reason I shouldn't be happy for them as well.

Square Enix should just stick to console games, they work very well with bringing down controls and graphics to work with the specs of consoles. Why bother trying making an MMO; much less make anything that a person or company isn't use to working with or for?
Thank you MMOs for holding betas, so I don't have to waste money on the final product and be very disappointed coughfinalfantasxivcough.

This is good news for people playing XIV. The game's getting a lot of heat and for good reason it seems like, as it suffers from a lot of the things that affected XI at launch. No Auction House and UI issues being the big one.
Still really looking forward to playing it on PS3 when the kinks get worked out though. It's an MMO in its first month, guys. All MMOs are garbage at this stage in the release. Cut it some slack.

@FruitFcker What he said. It's almost a cycle. A MMO's released with issues, people complain and give up on the game, the game is patched and better than it was before.
Do you people really think a company like Square Enix would make a bad game and just leave it like the mess it was? Even if the game still doesn't reach the standards of a MMO like WoW, they might even lower subscription prices.

I was actually going to cancel soon, but I suppose they were probably getting a lot of that...hence the extension. I'll give them the 30 days, but they have a lot of work to do. If they actually improve the game (not just bugs) then I'll stay. Good luck to them. I think the odds are against them at this point.
As a side note, I am willing to come back to it in a year if there is enough to warrant it. I won't write it off completely, but in its current state the fun factor isn't there. Beautiful looking game though.

Yeah, when it should have been released. Even with kinks in the game there is just a severe lack of content and varied things to do. That is the most annoying to me.

This is what most people say. I believe if this game's open beta testing and server stress was extended to say November or December, the game will be at it's best by next year.
Final Fantasy XIV has a lot of potential, but Squeenix isn't playing thier cards right. It seems they rush in for money a bit too fast.
