The Microsoft Store has launched a decent deal on an Xbox 360 S 4GB bundle. For $250, the bundle includes the 4GB system, two wireless controllers, a year of Xbox Live Gold and 4000 Microsoft Points (a.k.a. $50 worth of Xbox bucks). All of these items purchased separately would normally cost $350, so you're technically saving $100. However, we'd be remiss not to point out that if you ever want a hard drive, it'll run you another $130.
Of course, you could stave off the inevitable with a liberal dose of flash drives, or, if you're feeling particularly adventurous, you could always mod that old Xbox hard drive.

Now if they'd just have that deal with a 250gb at $350, I'd go ahead and buy it.

I'm in the market for a Slim 250gb, but have been waiting for a deal. That would be perfect.

Man, I feel sorry for the people who buy this thinking that they'll be saving money, but run into the brick wall of having one game install taking up all of their hard drive space.
I want to be there every time someone considers buying of these so I can swat it out of their hands and give them the larger hard drive version. "It's for the best, trust me. It's not you, it's the crappy 4gb limit."

Or tell them to get a PS3 instead (lulz?) /troll

@PreGHz I think the 4 GB version is fine for some people. There's an audience out there who just buys a couple of sports games, maybe something like Call of Duty that gets advertised a lot, and something for their young kids. There are people who don't take their consoles online and probably haven't ever browsed the XBLA marketplace. Hell, my former roommate is on my friends list. He has about 15-20 games and his status only updates every 3-4 months because he never connects to Live. He has no interest in multiplayer, I think he just connects to get updates.
What confuses me about this bundle is the year of gold and 4000 ms points. $50 worth of a lot of games and DLC that are out there right now will fill that 4 GB completely. I don't know how much of that 4 GB is usable, but I'd bet you couldn't fit Lara Croft and Comic Jumper on it, and that's only 2400 points. The market for the 4 GB just doesn't seem to need the bundled items.

You can use two flash drives for up to 32gb. Or you can use an external drive, of which you can probably pick up a ~120gb one for like 20-30 bucks nowadays and it'll use 32gb of it there.
And what games can't you play with a hard drive? All that I'm aware of is co-op online for Reach, and that is supposed to be patched soon. That one minor limitation hardly makes an entire XBox worthless.
I would wager that the vast majority of xbox/ps3 owners never use more than 32gb of space on their consoles. Heck, many people are still rolling along fine with their 20gb units.
So sure, this bundle makes no sense to most of us posting here, but there are plenty of people out there that it does make sense for.

@everyone who replied to me.
20gb is fine. Great if they can do that, which they can for barely more than 4gb. Sure, most people might not use more than 20gb. But 4gb, really? They are bundling 50 dollars worth of Live points. Shank already takes up over a gig. 4gb is barely enough space for anything, especially since they are expecting the buyer to use the points to buy games or movies. if that's the case, then they're using it as a gateway drug. Good business idea, but in they are planning on selling you an expansion hard drive, since most people who don't know better will pay more for a licensed product. Microsoft nickle and dimes, why should we be happy about that? Why should we support that?
When I talk about installing games, I don't just mean disc based games. And my flash drives are being used for other things, so I don't want to permanently allocate space on them for my 360.

Even if the only option to get 32gb cost $50 (it doesn't, but more on that later), then why is that useless or a reason not to buy it for everyone? If someone is only planning on using 10gb of space (and trust me, there are a lot more of those people out there than you think they are) then why would they pay an extra $100 for a bunch of hard drive space they're never going to use anyway.
Heck, even as a hardcore gamer I've barely used 10gb on my PS3. If I could have saved $75 to buy a PS3 with a smaller hard drive and throw a flash drive into it I would have been just as well off, and $75 richer. I'm sure there are plenty of people that want a 360, but don't play it enough to ever have to worry about having more than 30gb of storage.
As for prices, there was a 120gb external WD hard drive for $25 a few days ago, and even at full retail price there are tons for $40 or under. The 360 will take 32gb of that, which again is plenty of space for many people. Not you or I, but plenty of folks.
As for the list of games that require a hard drive, at this point I'm pretty sure you're either remembering it wrong or are just making it up. Google knows nothing about any of those games you mentioned requiring a hard drive (and mw2 CERTAINLY doesn't require one, that's just laughable), and at this point the entire list of games requiring a 360 hard drive is 1. That's Final Fantasy XI, and given that hardly anyone plays that, it's not really a dealbreaker for 99.9% (if not 100%) of people currently in the market for a 360.

It freezes a lot... almost daily. I'm also finding that without a harddrive many games have some issues despite the 4GB internal memory.

@ccc What happens in your brain when you think up of posts like that? The target market for people who are buying a 4gb 360 aren't people who download a lot of DLC or games. Not to mention you can still hook up external storage.

@DustbinK What happens in your brain? Don't be insulting on the internet just because you can be.
You say the target audience for the 4 GB model doesn't download a lot of stuff. I agree. However, the bundle includes 4000 points to download stuff with. Depending on what people buy, for example the two games he listed that come to 1600 points, by the time that 4000 points is spent they may easily run out of space. That's what is stupid about this.

I could probably get $100 back if I trade in those controllers, plus, I need a new 360 (stuck drive) and I miss netflix on my 360.

So they go from a 20GB hard drive model, then they get rid of the hard drive and add a puny 256MB flash memory chip, then they bump that up to 4BG... Why didn't they just keep the hard drive in the first place?

Halo Reach needs one, but only for multi-player.
There is a patch coming soon to fix this.

To be more specific, those (3) games require one to play online co-op only, the rest of the game works fine, and as someone said Reach is being patched for it.
There is only 1 game (FFXI, which no one buying a 360 now is going to play anyway) that actually requires a hard drive to play.
To many people, saving $75 is more than worth it at the expense of not getting to use some features they wouldn't have used anyway on a couple games that they wouldn't have played anyway.
