Left 4 Dead 2's latest mutation invites the survivors to a Hunter Party
47
It's Friday, which means it's Pizza Night in America. Sure, a slice of 'za is a great way to cap off the week, but some people prefer their unwinding to be a bit more slaughterful. So we'd like to point out the latest Left 4 Dead 2 mutation: Hunting Party.
This mutation simplifies the horde by turning all of the Special Infected into Hunters. No Boomers, no Smokers, no Jockeys, just the sheer agony of listening to screeching, nimble Hunters like so many dozens of nails scratching against so many dozens of chalkboards. And the tearing -- oh, why all of the tearing?

Me and my buddies tried it last night and it was very fun and very difficult to beat the last stage at the Dead Center on normal.

Now if they had a mutation where every one on the infected could be tanks...

Last week's mutation was "TAAAAAAAAANK!" where all Special Infected are tanks. You're too late! :(

I didn't play it so I don't know, still kinda new to L4D and L4D2, didn't wanna get overwhelmed in mutations.

@SackDanDruff It was scary as hell if you were a survivor and boatloads of fun if you were one of the many tanks. I'd say it qualifies as being epic.
What pleased me most was my group of survivors not planning but successfully attaining the Sacrifice achievement in which all 3 generators are turned on at once. Pretty snazzy, especially given the company.

@SackDanDruff I think he was really being sarcastic...(despite what he said lol) It was not very fun for survivors. Being one of several tanks was fun though. I just do not think they thought that one through. The horde's numbers should have been trimmed.

@The Wicker Man Nah it was awesome as survivors. It was like a race. And the prize for first place was your life. I had an awesome group during one match on Swamp Fever, and we made it to the safe house on one level, and survived for a damn long time on the finale.

@Hyperion45. You had better groups than I did. We downed two of the big bastards but that was it. No Mercy was not the ideal map for taaaaaaaannnnkk! Too confined.

@The Wicker Man Haha that's your problem. You aren't supposed to down them because they'll just spawn again in 15 seconds. You're supposed to outrun them, and keep running, and pray you have a big enough lead on them when you reach a crescendo event that you can live through it (but most of the time as soon as you have to wait for something you die)

It's bad enough when you have to deal with two or three hunters throughout an entire game, but this is just ridiculous.
Y'know, too keep my already threadbare sanity, I think I'll pass on this one.

how do i choose this mode? im new to l4d2
Posted: Oct 16th 2010 3:48PM TheDarkWayne said
@182 if you bought the Passing DLC there's a new playlist choice at the main menu called mutation. Every week it's a different kind of mode. Usually something crazy like this, or all special infected are tanks, everyone only has M60s, there are no health kits. etc.

@182 Yeah if you have it on Steam just select the "Mutation" option in the menu. It's pretty straightforward really.

From the looks of it when this tank mutation was going on it would be appropriate it if someone said...battle royale

I'd like a mutation where the survivors are all bots, and you always play as infected. I hate playing survivors in Versus.

@Faren22
If you do a local server they should let you play 4 humans vs. 4 bots, both as infected and survivors. I don't see why the server shuts down when there are no humans left on one team, if it's a local server, why do they care?
Stupid stupid stupid.

Because with a single organized attack, four hunters could wipe out all the survivors instantly. That's why.

So? That same possibility is there for both teams. It's not like one team gets 4 hunters and the other team doesn't.
Besides, that would be *really* difficult to pull off anyway. Hunters are the easiest special to clear off. If even one guy misses their pounce, or goes after the same guy as someone else, or goes a split second too late or early then the guy who's up will be able to clear off at least one of the hunters.

@Vcize That'd be so unfair! Like if you were fighting 4 tanks or something!

@Vcize The possibility remains that a good team of organized people could instantly take out all the survivors the instant they all left the safe house. Besides, I've played the mode and it's frantic enough when you have to deal with 5 or 6 hunters within a 20 second period, something that can't happen in VS.

Yay, another terrible mutation.
The one good mutation we know is coming, Valve is holding out on us.
Seriously, Valve, give us the Campaign Versus mode already.

@Powerlord Campaign Versus? What does that even mean? It sounds like Versus on Campaign maps, but that already exists and it's called Versus Mode.

Really, I kind of wish Valve would come out already and either get on with it and say, "Yes, PlayStation 3 gamers can be looking forward to experiencing the Left 4 Dead series on a Sony console with Steam Suppot" or saying "No, we don't really feel the PlayStation needs or can have that Left 4 Dead experience" or "There's nothing we can do as Microsoft owns the rights to the Left 4 Dead franchise and as a result, PlaySation 3 will not be getting the series." Can someone say something already. Someone neutral and has a clue what's going on, on the inside. I'd really like to play this game series on the PS3. Its not owned by Microsoft, unlike Gears of War or Mark Rein just doesn't like the PS3, but... I'd like to hear something.
