Sega kind of has a thing for Phantasy Star. Ever since resurrecting the 8- and 16-bit RPG franchise back on Sega Dreamcast with Phantasy Star Online, the company has been rather steadily turning out new titles bearing the brand name. Most recently, it's been Phantasy Star Portable 2 for PSP, but, as discovered by Siliconera, Sega has at least two more Phantasies planned.
The Japanese Trademark Database lists both Phantasy Star Eternal Planets and Phantasy Star Eternal Hunters as recently registered. They're classified only as video games -- no platforms, natch -- and Siliconera speculates they could be two sides of the same coin ... er, game, a la Pokemon Black and White. Hopefully, Sega won't keep its phans waiting long for a reveal.

I hope they are as magical as PSO.

@masterbedgood Is it strange that I read your comment and didn't even notice all the "ph's"? Either I'm really unobservant today, or I'm somehow really used to seeing these mysterious "ph's".

A proper sequel to PS4 would be nice.

@Faceless Troll I think I'm about the only one who feels this, but I'm not sure a sequel to PSIV is a good idea. Prequel possibly but the ending put a decent cap on the series as a whole, and to proceed past it would require either undoing said end or going on an entirely new track.

Single player sequel finally? For Xbox mayhaps?

I would hope these would be single-player, seeing as how PSO2 was just announced at TGS

My only question is, when's the final Phantasy coming out?

A continuation of the "real" Phantasy Star series is VERY, VERY long overdue. The original, and parts 2 and 4 are some of the best JRPG's ever made imho, and were just as good, if not better than their Final Fantasy contemporaries. Phantasy Star 3 was really a pretty good game too imho, I kind of liked all the different paths and characters you could play through the marriage and generations features. The only reason I don't consider it as good as the rest is b/c the story was kind of....well, it was kind of weird and tried too hard to make some very odd connections.
I really hope this isn't just a remake of the originals, although that would be nice too, but another true sequel to the main series is what I really want.

@Chazzr joking about what? And no, I wasn't.
If you mean joking about them being better then the Final Fantasy of the same period...they most definitely are WAAAY better then early Final Fantasy's. Graphic, story, and game-play wise the Phantasy Star series is FAR superior to early FF.
If you mean joking about part 3 being fairly good, then no I wasn't joking about that either. It's certainly not as good as the rest of the series, but it's not terribly either.
And although I didn't say it, the Phantasy Star RPG's are also far superior to the PSO series as well. I mean, the PSO's are alright, and fun games in their own right, but I wish they would've given them their own series name so there isn't confusion between the two.

The originals have already been remade, for the Saturn and PS2. More is unlikely. Also, PS4 closed out the Dark Force storyline pretty well. If they make a true sequel to that it will still be somewhat disconnected. What you and I are secretly wishing for is something that takes place on Motavia between PS2 and PS4. :)

Portable 2 is actually a really good game.. and we have PSO2 coming soon too. So yeah, I'd hope these are finally a continuation of the classic series.

Posting an image of Alis Landale makes you a filthy filthy liar, Randy.
Much like with Sonic, Sega has been abusing/trading on the good name of the 8 and 16-bit Phantasy Star titles.
We will never see their like again.

I kinda want a new Phantasy Star Online, but then again...considering how Phantasy Star Universe went...no thanks.

I Agree with those that want a Phantasy Star 5. A new single player player experience with high production values to rival any RPG out today. I say make it a sped up turned based combat, allow for pausing and character swapping.
Would also like to see Shining Force series revived and would love a sequel to Panzer Dragoon Saga. A PDS with todays tech with similar game-play would be amazing.

A new phantasy star would be a headache for the original team- part IV literally ended the story. The profound darkness was destroyed...though if he is profound as he really was, he will find a way back.
With such a wrap up like that, you cant just continue it.
However, a part of darkforce could have escaped...and he could be the cause of the "seed" on the psu games..at least that would make some sense.
Dark force cant stop, wont stop..like Puffy :P
