World of Warcraft: Cataclysm intro unleashes Deathwing
68
If you've been keeping up on your World of Warcraft lore, you may know this infuriated beast as Neltharion The Earth-Warder. But once you've seen Blizzard's introductory cinematic to the WoW: Cataclysm expansion, you'll see why his second name -- Deathwing the Destroyer -- is the only one on his business card.

Another quality cinematic by blizzard but this one did not have the emotional impact of the lich king cinematic for me.

@shoan True, I watched The Lich King cinematic many times over and even downloaded it, simply epic.

You see, Deathwing went to destroy Stormwind because he knew he couldn't take down Orgrimmar. Why?
Varok Saurfang.

Actually you see Orgrimmar destroyed by one of the tremors before he even gets out, which causes a zeppelin to crash into Orgrimmar. Deathwing doesn't bother taking down Orgrimmar himself because the mere tremors proceeding his breaking out of Deepholm are enough to take it down without even having to show up personally.

Destroying a puny zeppelin is not destroying Orgrimmar. Saurfang can do that by merely looking at it.

Likewise, laying some claws on 2 of Stormwind's many towers and knocking down a statue is far from destroying it. :)

Actually we members of the Horde, gave the OK for the zeppelin crash scene out of sympathy towards the pathetic Alliance faction.
As we all know, there is a "no fly zone/path over Ogrimmar. It did look as if Ol' DW shook up Org though eh?
:)

Story intros are great and all, but I personally enjoy watching intros that try to capture the player experience like the cinematic did for the original WoW release or more recently the FFXIV intro.

Ah, but you see, the cinematic DID show you what was different, mainly the sundering of Azeroth. The player experience has changed, but not greatly, since the last expansion. The real change is the complete overhaul of the entire Azeroth experience.

That's more than can be said for 99% of news articles out there.

@Altrix you probably feel really cool and justified given my response and your initial feelings about the post being late. But here's the thing, this was also posted on WoW.com, joystiq's sister site at 5, which means that it's also been at the bottom of joystiq.com on the little WoW category since then, as long ago as you saw it on youtube. It was also pretty heavily advertised on WoW that it was gonna air during football even earlier than it would be on youtube. But here's the thing, nobody really gives a shit anyway.

Now I have absolutely nothing to do with the WoW world, but just out of pure curiosity, is Blizzard planning on just consistently releasing expansions or are they planning a full blown sequel?
I've been curious about this ever since I've been an avid reader of gaming news, seeing WoW all over the place

Considering they are going into 3 expansions.
There is no need for a sequel. This expansion goes back and fixes alot of the problems of the original game, and changes much of the original world.
Look at EverQuest. The original game is up to like 18 expansions now. The sequel to it sucks. You don't need to keep pumping out sequel after sequel.

There were better dragon CGI parts in The Legend of Dragoon back on the PSX that were hundreds of times better than this.

That was like, eight different levels of badass, but I have one issue with this:
Deathwing the Destroyer? Really? I can't be the only one who thinks that's a bit overly generic. I can dig his other name, "Neltharion The Earth-Warder" has a classic fantasy sound to it.

@aisle5 it was also the name he was given way back in 1995 when Warcraft 2 came out. Given the EXTREME tendencies of err, everything in the 90s it's actually fairly restrained
