I knew someone would bitch about it being like the AWESOME first game. That kind of review is what's getting old...

I thought it got pretty good reviews. As I said in other posts, Fallout 3 is a huge world, but it has some pretty nasty bugs that I think is a valid and fair point in a review.

I loved the first game. But, the jank. Oh God, the jank.

My first playthrough of Fallout 3 I got 20 hours in when I suffered a game-breaking bug that wouldn't allow my character to proceed. Going to my previous 3 saves did not get me out.

It says a lot about Fallout 3 (because I have little patience for that sort of crap) that I eventually sucked it up and started the game from the beginning.

This time I played God knows how many hours. Played through the main disc game. Went through the DLC missions, til finally I got stuck on the alien spaceship with a gamebreaking bug that wouldn't let me go further. Went back 3 saves, but no relief. That was the anticlimactic end to my Fallout 3 experience.

Do I regret my time with Fallout 3? No, it was very good. But am I going to willingly subject myself to that kind of glitchfest heartbreak again? Not even Wayne Newton can draw me back in.

he shouldn't have to make a million saves.

He deserves the right to play games with 2 saves and not have to worry about a bug messing his character up.

That's right. It's his fault F3 had gamebreaking glitches. Makes perfect sense.

Several hours into PS3 version:

- Two complete freezes requiring restarts
- Two incidents of losing caps to a seller but getting no items
- A fair amount of slowdown here and there
- One quest is broken due to my talking to a key character before the quest activated. Now I cannot get the dialogue option I need. It seems unlikely this is intentional as the quest is not 'failed' - just no longer possible.

Not a very promising list for maybe four hours of play. It's an amazing game, but for the love of god save often and don't overwrite.

Fallout 3/Oblivion both had that thing where if you do something you can't do certain quests. It's part of the game. Lets say... you convince an uncertain slaver to change his ways and leave town. Why would you expect to be able to complete a mission that involves talking him into continuing to be a slaver.

How the hell did you keep track of 1000+ saves? I think I had 10 total on Dead Space (due to the Chapter.... 9 glitch I think it was) and I couldn't even remember what each one was. I have only about 5 for Fallout 3 and I have a Neutral, evil, and good character. That was enough for me, even with game breaking bugs.

1000 saves? Near the end of my Fallout 3 playthrough, my saves were more than 10MB. Were you really dumb enough to devote ~10GB on your harddrive to saves?

People are being so hard on monkey, but he has a point. The game is certainly flawed if those few saves are not enough, but if you want to play it anyway (as very many people did) then it makes a lot of sense to keep a whole bunch of saves for such situations -- especially when you've been burned once before.

If a bridge is out and you try to drive across it, you can't just blame the bridge when you fall ... and if you try to drive across it again...

Obviously not as good as Fallout 3, but sufficient none the less. But for god sakes, please, please, PLEASE, upgrade the engine. It looks horrible.

My assumption has been that this game is being used to keep the franchise alive and in people's minds while Bethesda takes their time with Fallout 4 and builds a new engine.

However, I'm glad to hear that reviewers like the plot. It sounds like Obsidian did the best they could, at least, and they knew what they were doing with the important part. I've never thought of them as a tech-oriented company.

I'm assuming that there will be a new engine for Elder Scrolls V (which I'm sure will come out before Fallout 4) and Bethesda will probably use the same engine for Fallout 4.

Besides the obvious improvements from a new iteration and engine, I pray to god that both elder scrolls and fallout have something to replace the awkward "i'm looking square at you from my fixed marker and refuse to move from it" dialogue sequences.

Little bit of cinamatography (could be tough given the size of either game) or human interaction actually coming across as interacting with humans will go a hell of a long way.

Seeing as how Obsidian has made every engine they've used worse then the original game they're following up, you shouldn't be surprised it didn't get upgraded.

I loved Fallout 3 but it lacked online like Fable II. It's be fun as hell to run around with a buddy in their Fallout world...and there's a limited amount of ammo in the entire game which reduces replayability.

of course there is limited amounts, its a post apocalyptic world, everything is up for grabs. also, for a post apocalyptic world there is alot of ammo just lying around.

There's limited alien blaster ammo, mini nukes, etc. Makes you want to never used them because you'll never be able to use the gun without ammo. And if your gun is damaged, there's only so many guns in the game for you to repair it with.

Long load times on Xbox maybe, super quick on PCs (or mine at least).

either way, i'll take 2 minutes of loading on an Xbox for the hours of exploration it provides.

I agree, with the amount of content and exploration in the game I don't really mind the loading times that much. There's also the possibility they could patch the game to make them faster too. I'm sure it runs nice and smooth on your PC :)

well file this under HURRR DURR...

ive seen you post dumb comments before but this is probably the lest obvious one... This would get lower scrores then Fallout 3 because its basically Fallout 3.5... Fallout 3 made a game that was once turned based, isometric view into a 3D open world Oblivion like game. New Vegas didn't set out to redesign the game so of course it won't get the scores Fallout 3 got.

I said it in the other review, and I'll say it again. These are more than glitches...maybe every single person isn't experiencing this, but a lot of us can't even play it at all. I can play for 3 minutes if I'm lucky before it freezes and I have to unplug my Xbox and try again, only to have it happen over and over. This needs to be patches immediately.

Bad times for the games industry when you can charge full price for expansion packs and still get very good ratings. Reviews need to be more critical or developers won't make as much effort.

I wouldn't call this an expansion pack, it's a completely different environment, new story, characters, weapons, and perks. The only thing that's the same about NV is the game play and the engine ( minor tweaks ). Plus the amount of content it has in it. You know what they say, ain't broke, don't fix it.

There is a point where expansion pack isn't the right word, I think the point is when said "expansion" has 200 hours of gameplay in it

@Zacxx201 I agree with the whole if it ain't broke don't fix it thing, but there was a lot broke about Fallout 3. The fact the game couldn't do drama mean't the story was lackluster and a joke at times. The gameplay was weak as guns/melee had a weak feel to them, relying on you using VATS again and again which is tedious.

It needs a good coat of polish before I buy it, especially in the sea of good games flooding in.
