A Brazilian court has apparently ordered that worldwide sales of Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes From Liberty City cease because a song in the game was used without consent. The Associated Press reports that the Third Civil Court in Barueri will fine Rockstar Games and Brazilian distributor Synergex $3,000 per day if the order isn't obeyed. The order was apparently issued on September 27 and can be appealed.
The song that Rockstar allegedly did not get the rights to is called "Bota o Dedinho pro Alto." Brazilian distributor Synergex claims it had not been notified of the court's decision. You can check out the song after the break.
The problem is that the song in the game is a remix done by someone in Germany, and they didn't have the rights to the original song, so they couldn't have licensed it for use in the game.
Ironically, this is my favorite track from The Ballad of Gay Tony. Love hanging out at Maisonette 9 just to hear it . . . and of course, doing the dance offs. Best part of the game.
@Miketor, no PS2s have been sold since it first launched on US here. Only now Sony is officially giving it support though. The title in that old article is a bit misleading.
lol thats actually may favorite song from the night club, I hope there's just some misunderstanding and it can all be sorted out with a couple million dollars, R* can spare it right ?
@jzuk Why not try it in real life big man? Dare you to try some John Rambo sh!t in the Favela da Rochinha. If the malandros don't take you out BOPE might confuse you for one and take you out. :D
@Spookimitsu How do you think this sound is danced, a bunch of criminals pointing their guns up, the translation of the song name "is point your little finger up" and this is what it mean. It is violence appology also the singer a minor doens´t have any idea of this, so it´s child exploitation, and if like, anyone give a damn, these little judge should make rockstar or whatever is the responsible pay and then send the the father to jail.
@Metalfacedoom Man, sorry, I was sarcastic, It is very dificult to find anything good in video games about Brasil, this music and COD are just some examples, and unfortunaly relate perfectly.
"A Brazilian court has apparently ordered that WORLDWIDE sales of Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes From Liberty City cease because a song in the game was used without consent"
Countrywide would be one thing. But since when can Brazil tell the whole world to pull someone else's product out of retail?
