It seems a bit snotty to act like the current gen consoles are so cheap that everyone should have them. Not to mention, PS2 games are much more affordable, many are still great, and this could be a great way to introduce new people to the market.

There are plenty of people out there who may not have the money to buy a 360 or a PS3, and that doesn't make them any less of a gamer than I am just because I am fortunate enough to have both.

I was thinking the same thing. No respect here for gamers of older consoles. You gotta show more respect for a console that's lived this long. I guess they just have to push whatever is newer and more expensive.

Well, it's not that everyone should have current gene by now. But, it does seem like they should have last gen by now.

PS2 games are certainly more affordable, but its not like you can find a bunch of them in stores anymore. That generation is about 4 years gone now.

Maybe not in the US/Canada/Europe wherever your from. But think about where most of the sales for PS2 probably are, South America/Africa/Asia. Obviously they are not doing so bad in the US if were going to have a bundle. And they still seem to sell 200+ every time the Japanese sales figures come out.

With Sony capable but unwilling to put backwards compatibility on PS3s so that they can sell us digital versions of games we already bought once on PSX/PS2, getting a backup PS2 for all the classics we already have is reasonable, and for just $100, plus a game (even just an average one), seems like a good deal.

If I still managed a GameStop I'd be pissed about yet another pointless damn SKU to take up my back room... this and the 5 bajillion PS3, and 360 models. Good thing I don't, cause I quit (that company lost their damn minds).

Not quite yet. The PS2 had some crazy fast and funky designs that still are tough to fully emulate even on a beast of a modern PC.

It's not on Xbox. Which is huge because it is PS2's main competitor. I wonder how much they spent on exclusivity?

Attention a great number of Joystiq commenters:

Not everyone can or wants to spend a couple hundred bucks on a new console. The graphics are worse, the resolution is worse, and the sound is worse, but that doesn't mean the games are worse on the PS2, and you can get all of them, many of which are some of the best games ever made, in exchange for your pocket lint.

Sony must have no faith in the PS3 as a casual gaming machine. Stop making a last generation console so people might actually buy the PS3 and step into the new generation! This is just a wierd bundle. Theres no chance of sales over PSN...since PS3 has no PSN. I dont see how this will make Sony any money, the few kids who will want it and the parents who will buy it wont spend much more money from Sony. Does anyone still sell new PS2 games?

The best buy near me still sells ps2 games (including Motorstorm and silent hill when they were released)... And might I point out that every week a few HUNDRED ps2's sell in Japan. EVERY WEEK! More ps2's are sold there than PSP Go's!

I'm assuming the US can sell at least 100 a week, If not more.

I can't believe people think PS2 is now worthless just because PS3 is out. I'm guessing most who say that are 14 or 15 year olds who can't see past eye-candy graphics. I have nothing against good looking games, but it's secondary to gameplay. There are just too many great games on PS2 to let it disappear into the darkness. My PS3 seems to be dying, but all I really want is a backup PS2 in case my current one bites the dust.

Oh yeah, what a dumb idea...wonder why Walmart.com is sold out of this bundle? It's because plenty of families have multiple gamers in the house. Most families that buy this bundle already have a 7th Generation console, and the old PS2 is either humming like a leaf blower, or still cranking in the basement. ....but for $99 this helps keep a 9 year old kid occupied while waiting his turn on the new console. You guys are a bunch of spoiled brats...I can remember when I had to deal with a square block representing a person on the screen....and I woulkd get so MAD with those lazy developers. Now, even PS2 is still pretty good stuff. Don't stick your nose up.
