Windows Phone 7 review: The Revenants
1
The Revenants is an awesome title referring to a "visible ghost or animated corpse that was believed to return from the grave to terrorize the living." Too bad this Windows Phone launch game doesn't take advantage of what could have been an awesome premise.
Instead, the revenant you play is a shining orb that must draw circles around enemy spirits in order to defeat them. Immediately, it's an underwhelming concept that just isn't very fun. Holding down your finger atop the revenant to move it obscures your view of the field, making it more likely you'll crash into random enemies. Even worse, you're never certain if the game will even register the circles you draw.
Perhaps it would be easier to give the game another chance, but the boring presentation, drab art, and lack of a story combine to provide no compelling reason to go on. Compared to the more exciting touch-based games in the Xbox Live line-up, Revenants feels dead.
