Where Back to the Future: The Game's going, we won't need Wiimotes
57
Telltale has revealed that it's trimming the list of platforms upon which its next onus, Back to the Future: The Game, will appear. The game will arrive first on the PC and Mac sometime this December, followed shortly thereafter by PS3 and iPad versions. Looks like the Wii and Xbox 360 got the short straws this time -- if only they could travel back in time to before this announcement was made! Unfortunately, time travel isn't real, or else we'd totally have a pet Europasaurus right now.
The game's PC and Mac iterations are currently available to pre-order for $25. Each pre-order includes a free copy of Puzzle Agent (available to download immediately after placing your order) and access to an exclusive "pre-release insider forum" on Telltale's site. Oh! And for every pre-order that goes through the site, Telltale will donate a dollar to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. That's awfully classy, you guys.

This is a really weird thing, though. You'd figure if they were sticking with the PC version, they'd stick with the easy port of the 360 version. Unless it's a Live/Microsoft problem.

I have a feeling this is a result of the 2gb size limitation on XBLA, rather than any blatant fanboyism.
And the Wii, well...

Well I have a 360, a Wii, and an apparently not-good-enough iPod Touch. Guess I'll get the PC version.
Or maybe I'll just wait and see if they add an XBLA port while I play Power of Love over and over and over again on Rock Band 3.

thanks a lot! just "pre-ordered" the first episode. I was guessing they would release the first episode free for a limited while, as telltale has done with other seasons, but can't hurt to get it now anyway.
i just bought all 3 seasons of sam & max for $20 which is their current deal going on til 10/31. I claimed the free dvds as well (shipping was $7), but I contacted customer support since it says season 3 was on back order. The email I got back said that it would be back in stock on nov. 1st and my shipment would go out then. Just FYI in case anyone else was interested.
I can't wait for the back to the future game though! Having Christopher Lloyd on board for the voices is awesome. The stand-in for Michael J. Fox is really good too, though I would've still preferred the real deal.

I meant more that it doesn't have a great online setup, making digital distribution more hit and miss than the other two consoles. A large percentage of the Wii's user base doesn't connect it to the internet.
I'm not saying the market isn't there. In fact, probably more than other systems. I'm just saying it'd probably sell better on a disc, and even then, it's a risky proposition.

I still don't know why season 2 of Sam and Max never came to PS3, but season 3 wasn't on 360. I'd rather play on PS3, but I can't see why they aren't going to all platforms, with Telltale's history with all the platforms. Maybe PS3 has done the best for them?

Sam and Max are on the Wii [disc based]. Also the 2GB download limit makes no sense as the game is sold in mothly episodes. Just like Monkey Island and Strongbad were released over WiiWare.

The Wii has 512MB of internal memory. This game probably takes up more than that. I doubt they want to put a "Requires SD card" requirement on the game.

Maybe they want to do that package deal they usually do now? If I recall, the PS3 can do the "buy series up front and download each episode when it comes out" where as the 360 Marketplace cannot do it.
Or some malarkey.

The 360 no longer has any download cap, games can be as big as they like. Also, the game is episode, each episode being release a month apart. It's very unlikely any of them will be above 2gb.

Rather that WiiWare has a 42 MB filesize limit
Though i don't see why a retail version is out of the question. Seemed to work well enough for Sam and Max

Hell I'll buy it for both

I was under the impression the cap was still in effect, hence why the Stranger's Wrath remake was only available on PS3.

I wanna see more media before I pre-order. Telltale is good, but they don't have a perfect rap sheet. Puzzle Agent and Strong Bad's game (in my opinion) are huge black smudges on their resume of games.

It's weirder that XBLA is getting ignored constantly by Telltale now after releasing the first two seasons of Sam & Max on there along with all four episodes of Wallace & Gromit, as the new Sam & Max, Tales of Monkey Island, and now Back to the Future are on PSN and not XBLA.
