@Hayatoblaze91x Did you even read the article? "The big, rounded rectangle in the middle is reportedly a touch-sensitive strip capable of mimicking dual-analog input" And this would most definitely not be the PSP2, It's just a fancy Android phone with an emphasis on gaming.

I read Engadget's article after I made the comment (sorry excited!) But we really don't know for sure if this isn't or is the PSP2. Still just in prototype stage, for all we know they might change the specs or the design!

@patboy2008 Meh, from the sound of it , all it's going to do is be a regular Droidphone with a playstation controller glommed on so you can have some decent controls for once. it'll obviously play regular old Phone games and maybe emulated Playstation minis, maybe even a few select PS1 games.

It's not the PSP2. The PSP2 wouldnt waste time being a phone because that forces people to buy more than just the system. SCE does games, Sony Ericsson is a phone company first and foremost and this is probably just an attempt at cross marketing and trying to consolidate the Sony brand as evidenced by the "make.believe" logo being placed on every sony product regardless of what department it comes from.

I'm not too pumped either, it's just a crappy regular old phone like any existing android, iphone, windows phone, etc.

I'm sure it'll have some actual decent games on it unlike the $5 casual crap available on phones now, but I can't see myself shelling out the cost of a new smartphone for it

It'll kill the android part of the phone anyway if it turns out to be a real product that sony is pursuing.

Android is far to open for Sonys tastes so it'll get locked down heaps to limit the user from doing things that might allow it to be hacked.

Not going to say "Fake!" due to anything being possible, but that thing looks like a horribly spliced together phone and PSPGo.

It would be awesome if it were real, but it looks ugly. It doesn't have the style of the PSPGo, only the shape.

I was going to ask if you saw the first Nintendo DS prototype. It made the very first retail DS (the phat DS) look very slim and sleak.

Given that this is noticeably more powerful than the current PSP, could this be what the Mortal Kombat developers were calling a PSP2? Just sayin'!

@GerbilSoft nyeh, they're probably going after the iTouch/Phone market as well as their own hardcore niche, especially since it's Android based.

@GerbilSoft Yeah, totally different architecture so they either need to port games over to ARM / android or have a separate MIPS chip inside the phone (that would be expensive and bulky).

I can't see this thing playing PSP games on launch, it will probably be just a glorified android phone with perhaps a few "exclusive" games.

The problem will be to get other developers excited to develop games for it when not all android phones have buttons. I.E the market will be severely fragmented.

Yeah I'm with you aout being on the fence about this. I mean I would love a PSP2 and having a phone with it would be cool but I just don't like the form factor of the PSP Go. I think the form factor is sexy but from using the PSP Go at Best Buy I do not like the feel of the slide out controls. Its just too uncomfortable. (Although this may be becaus Best Buy always has it attached to a display. have not been able to use a PSP Go that was unattached. ) Also I don't think I'd be able to afford the mandatory data phone so I hope PSP 2 has a non-phone version.

Why not? Look at the multi-touch pad! DUAL ANALOGUE STICKS! I'm shocked no one has said anything about it, given the amount of complaints about the single analogue stick.

Nah... the buttons icons give it away as a PS device as the very least. More than likely they just didn't bother putting all the branding on since it's a prototype.

If you look at the gallery on Engadget, there's L/R buttons on the top of the controller half of it (much like the PSP Go).

And according to the rumors, that strip in the middle is supposed to replace the analog sticks.

Actually, I'd go as far to say that some of these "leaks" are intentional, with the purpose of reasearching public reaction to the product.

This is the latest and greatest Snapdragon chip. It's not a dual-core, but it's the next generation with an Adreno 205 GPU which is close to the performance of the PowerVR SGX 540 in the Galaxy S phones and faster than the PowerVR SGX 535 in the iPhone 4. Have you seen Unreal Engine 3 and RAGE on the iPhone 4? Imagine that, but better, on this PlayStation Phone.

The only other phone that uses this particular chip is the HTC Desire HD. The HTC Desire Z (known as the G2 in the US) uses a version of the chip that is downclocked to 800 MHz.

@Justinian the Somewhat Great XXI Yes, you're correct. This is most likely GSM and going to AT&T, however this could simply be the GSM model (think Samsung Galaxy S line - the phone is on every network).

SE has a history of GSM phones but there's a chance they'd want to make a big splash with this and make it available to as many people as possible. We can only hope.
